Garden of Quilts!

This last week has been spectacular!!  I spent the entire week immersed in Quilty Goodness!!  Yup, last week was Garden of Quilts!!  And it was also crazy busy, hence why it has been so quiet on the blog for the last week ;)   I taught 8 classes over 4 days and just loved getting to meet so many amazing quilters and share my passion for quilting with them!!

Here I am on Day 1 of classes.  Thanks so Cindy Cloward for taking this picture, I was so busy, I hardly took any pictures, surprise, surprise.  I had 3 classes that were full at 24 people, and the other 5 were close to that, so I got to share my Quilting Designs - Patterns with lots and lots of new quilty friends!!

It is always so fun to see your designs done up in so many different fabric combinations.  Of course, I want to make all of the quilts again with new colors and themes!   And it was just great to teach so many new classes!!  I makes me all the more excited about the new patterns that just released as I got to see them all made into fun blocks in all of the fabrics!!  This was the last class.  One pic on the first day and one on the last, with a whole lot of quilting fun in between!!

And yes, we did make it to see the quilts hanging in the garden on the last day.  We had about 45 minutes until they closed, so we pretty much ran down through the gardens and then ran back as it started to rain. You can see lots and lots of pictures of all the beautiful gardens and quilts here on Instagram or Facebook.    And this is how we spent the evenings ;)  Putting our feet up, doing a little sewing and pressing in the hotel room, and get ready for another day of quilting fun!!

What a wonderful week!!!  I am already looking forward to next year's Garden of Quilts!!!

New Happy Quilting Pattern - Navigating the Stars!!

Today is our final new pattern day and it is all about . . . Navigating the Stars!!!   And this one has a fun little story of how it got it's name :)  This block design was inspired by an image of a rose compass on an old map.   I kept tweaking the design until I got to this.  At that point, I noticed that if I focused on the background fabric at the center of the block, I saw a star, which was my main goal.  But when I focused on the Print fabric at the center of the block, I saw a square cross, reminding me of the way the sails are always depicted on the Mayflower.   And I thought it was so cool that what started with old sailing maps, turned to stars and sails.   And what did they use to navigate . . . the stars ;)    And I just love the amazing secondary designs that pop out of this quilt, it really came together to be a super cool  geometric block!!

The  Navigating the Stars Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $6.00 and the Paper Patterns are $7.50!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Navigating the Stars  is an intermediate skill level pattern, as it has a lot of matching points!     The block is made with just stitch and flip corners, so the technique is super fast to pick up.  Then you just have to use a few pins to line up all of your pretty star points!!!   And when you put the blocks together, you get new secondary stars in the accent fabric that connects the blocks.  So fun!!!

This Navigating the Stars quilt is made with  Rainier by Jessica Rose for Moda and is the queen size.  I was instantly drawn to this fabric because it had the perfect colors to break up my quilt design into warms and cools.   I grouped the pinks, tans, and yellows and then the blues and greys and placed them every other block.  It really adds to the layout to go from sunny warm to stormy grey throughout.  .  And And we lived by Mount Rainier for a year back in our early married years, so there is that too!!    The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly, and is so versatile it would look great in any fabrics, so you can grab a bundle and make it shine in your own way!!

And for the quilting, I did some more beautiful wavy arches.  I love to do this quilteing design when I have a "grid" in the quilteing.  There were a few places where I had to estimate where my grid was, but it was totally worth the guessing.  And I love how the little arches fit perfect in the center star, just so cool!!!   And ya, I think it totally adds to the nautical feel of this quilt :)   I just love it!!

And because it is all quilted in a grid, it adds so much wonderful quilty texture!!!   And doesn't this look like the perfect little reading nook.  My sweet neighbor let me take pictures in her yard.  I just wanted to see it pictured next to the warm earthy bricks, and it did just what I hoped it would, brining out all of those warm rich tones in the quilt!!

Navigating the Stars  like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)     The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen and King.

And that is my new  Navigating the Stars quilt and Pattern!!!    I hope you enjoy making your own as much as I did making mine!!   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your own Navigating the Stars Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #navigatingthestarsquilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

New Happy Quilting Pattern - Summer Solstice!!

Today is our third new pattern day and it is all about . . . Summer Solstice!!!   This quilt design was inspired by the sunshine meets a sundial.  I just kept playing with the shapes and angles until I found this awesome design!!    And you know I just love the chain.   So great!!!   And of course, if it is all sunshine, then I had to do it in happy yellow's!!!

The  Summer Sosltice Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $6.00 and the Paper Patterns are $7.50!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Summer Solstice  is an intermediate skill level pattern.     The quilt is made of two separate blocks and then pieced in a alternating layout with a pieced sashing to create the outer dial and chain.  The pattern teaches techniques including no waste flying geese, half square triangles, and stitch and flip corners.  It is a wonderful quilt to show off a lot of negative space as well, so you can have some fun with your background fabric ;)

This Summer Solstice quilt is made with Grunge Basics by Basic Grey for Moda and is the queen size.  Again, I just love grunge, I just love all of these shades of yellow in this monochromatic quilt !!  But the quilt pattern also includes fabric requirements for Scraps as well as Fat Eighths.  So whether you are grabbing a Fat Quarter Bundle, or a Fat Eighth Bundle, or just digging through your scrap drawer, it will be an amazing quilt!!! And you don't have to make it monochromatic like I did either  :)  Make it your own.   I already have plans to make it with summer beachy prints and a dark background!!

And wheras this quilt has a lot of negative space, I really wanted to make sure the prints didn't get lost!!  So I stitched in the ditch around the prints, and then quilted small swirls in the background.  I just love how it  makes each of those yellow print pieces just pop!!  Isn't it just so fun :)   And of course, lots and lots of yummy quilt texture!!!

Summer Solstice like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)     The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen, and King.     And again, you can use Scraps, Fat Eighths, or Fat Quarters!!!

And that is my new  Summer Solstice quilt and Pattern!!!    And I am just so happy to share it with all of you!!!   Like I said, I am already planning to make this again and hope you will love making it as much as I do ;)   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your Summer Solstice Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #summersoslsticequilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Summer Solstice Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   Again, PDF Patterns are just $6.00, the Paper Patterns are $7.50,  until September 9th :)    And while you are there, check out these other newly released  patterns that are also on the same special ;)  Always good to save on shipping!!

New Happy Quilting Pattern - Primrose and Proper!!

Today is our second new pattern day and it is all about . . . Primrose and Proper!!!   Making flower blocks is always fun, and I so enjoyed designing this quilt.  I started with the large Primrose Flower, and just wanted to add a little something more to the design.  So I started playing with the Proper flower and was super excited that when combined with the tiny flowers, that it created an secondary chain.   So great!!!   And it is just so happy and bright you just can't help but love it!!!

The  Primrose and Proper Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $6.00 and the Paper Patterns are $7.50!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Primrose and Proper  is an intermediate skill level pattern, as it covers a lot of piecing techniques!     The quilt is made of two separate blocks and then pieced in a alternating layout.  And those little flowers are actually in the blocks, so you don't have to worry about sashing on this one.  Just an added pieced border to finish up the tiny flowers :)     The pattern teaches techniques including no waste flying geese, stitch and flip corners that have nested diagonal seams and half square triangles.  Lot's of pieces to make this one go together, but so worth it for how pretty it turns out!!

This Primrose and Proper quilt is made with  Parlor  by Crystal Manning for Moda and is the queen size.  These beautiful Parlor prints are expected to land in shops any day now . . .so keep an eye out!!  They are just so rich and vivid . . . and you know I especially love those purples!!  And the prints are full of beautiful florals and vines, just so pretty!!   And of course, I used Grunge for my background and accent fabrics, cause ya know, I just love it!!   The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly, so you can grab any bundle and make it shine in your own way!!

And for the quilting, I did some more beautiful custom quilting.  I quilted the background with a tiny loop de loop, which made it easier to fill all of the nooks and crannies in the florals.   Then in the leaves I did arches to resemble leaf veins.  In the florals, it is a combination of feathers, curls, and pebbles.  I love pebbles for making a center focal point pop!!   And in the tiny flowers, I went with some echoed petal shapes.  So much quilting variety and so much quilty goodness!!  I just love it!!

And doesn't it just make you want to cuddle up under a tree with a good book!!  I just love yummy quilty texture, it is so snuggly!!

Primrose and Proper like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)     The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen and King.

And that is my new  Primrose and Proper quilt and Pattern!!!   This is so great getting to finally share these quilts with you!!!   These have been a WIP for some time, and it is just amazing to see them all done ;) I hope you enjoy making your own as much as I did making mine!!   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your own Primrose and Proper Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #primroseandproperquilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

New Happy Quilting Pattern - Sweater Weather!!

Let's start sharing these new quilts for my 4 new Happy Quilting Patterns!!!   Today is all about Sweater Weather!!!   This quilt was inspired by a winter sweater that I had when I was a little girl.  Once the first snow fell, I  wanted to wear it every single day!  So I made it into a quilt so now I can snuggle in it every day ;)    And isn't it just so great with the combination of a Snowflake Block and a Heart  Block that makes an beautiful secondary chain design.  I just love it!!!

The  Sweater Weather Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $6.00 and the Paper Patterns are $7.50!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Sweater Weather  is an experience beginner skill level pattern, and regardless of your skill level, you will love making this quilt!     The quilt is made of two separate blocks and then pieced in a alternating layout with a small sashing.    The pattern teaches techniques including strip piecing, stitch and flip corners that have nested diagonal seams and lots of tiny patchwork in that chain. And because the piecing of everything else beyond the chain is pretty large, the quilt blocks come together pretty quick!

This Sweater Weather quilt is made with Grunge Basics by Basic Grey for Moda and is the queen/king size.  You all know how much I love grunge, and it is such a great basic when you want to do a monochromatic quilt like this because there are so many shades of each color to choose from!!  The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly.    And of course, it would look amazing made with a Fat Quarter Bundle as well, you don't have to stick to monochromatic basics.  Make it your own!!

But, just in case you want to make it just like mine . . . ya know, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!!   And this is actually the second time I have made this quilt and they both look the exact same (more on that later).   Anyhow, . . . here are the grunge fabrics I used ;)
For the Background Fabric - Grunge Basics White Paper 30150 101

And for the blocks I used the following 16 Grunge Fat Quarters:
And when it came time to quilt this I opted for some fun custom quilting.  I tried a new background filler of small loop de loops with tiny stars, that just happen to also look like snowflakes falling :)  So cute!!  For the snowflake blocks I quilted lots and lots of pebbles in a medium blue.  That way it blended with all of the shades of blue.   And finally, in the hearts, I quilted lines of wishbones, cause it reminded me of the knitting on the sweater ;)  Its quilted in a super dark navy so it is hard to see, but a perfect blend!!     And I left the small squares of the chain and snowflake blocks unquilted, just stitching in the ditch around them so they would really pop!  It took me about 10 hours to quilt, but it was so worth it for the amazing beautiful finish and the wonderful snuggly texture :)

Sweater Weather like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)     The pattern has 5 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin and Queen/King.

And that is my new  Sweater Weather quilt and Pattern!!!       And I am just so happy to share it with all of you!!!   I really think you are just going to love making this quilt ;)   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your ASweater Weather Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #sweaterweatherquilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Sweater Weather Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   Again, PDF Patterns are just $6.00, the Paper Patterns are $7.50,  until September 9th :)    And while you are there, check out these other newly released  patterns that are also on the same special ;)  Always good to save on shipping!!

And one quick story before I sign off.  I mentioned this is the second time I have made this quilt . . . well here is the first.  Looks the exact same but different quilting.   This quilt was supposed to be in a quilting magazine for winter 2024.  But a year ago, I got an email with the craziest news.  The quilt had been stolen from the publishers office.  I know, crazy right!!  The publishers looked into everything, but in the end, the quilt never turned up.   A good friend told me you know you have really "made it" when a quilt of yours gets stolen . . . so I took that as the silver lining in the situation.   I also decided right then and there that I needed to make this quilt again because it was just to pretty of a design to get forgotten.  So it took a year . . . but here we are.    And I am just so happy to be sharing this Sweater Weather quilt with all of you!!

Thanks for popping in today.  Be sure to come back tomorrow for more Happy Quilting Pattern fun :)

I hope you all have a Happy Quilting Day!!!
