Moving

I don't know if I have mentioned it here before, but we are getting ready to move across the country one last time.   My husband is finishing here at the end of June and we are moving back West to Cedar City, Utah!!!  I am so excited. .  My husband grew up there and I went to college there.  We both just love it and I can't believe after 10 years of waiting, we are a week away from moving to what has always been home in our hearts!!  The kids and I are going back 2 weeks early to get things set up.  And yes, I will be flying 5 months pregnant with 4 kids, I hope we all make it in one piece :)

So I have one week until I move!!  Crazy!!!  Because of this, I thought I would mention, if my posts seem a little more chaotic than usual, understand that things are a little crazy around here.  Never fear though, there will still be lots from Happy Quilting!!  In fact, I have 2 big posts planned for next week and I can't wait for them!!!  (But I will, so you will have to as well :)

And just to give you a little taste of the craziness that is our house, while preparing for a showing yesterday (I really hope someone buys our house soon :)  I came upstairs to find this.  Talk about a guilty face.  Oh yes, that is mascara.

Sometimes I wonder how our house is still in one piece :)  Thank heavens for Mr. Clean Magic Erasers!!!

Improv. Quilt Back Complete

Well that is one thing more I can cross of my "to do" sewing list, Yippee Skippee!!  So what did I think of Improv. piecing. . . .   Well, I have to admit, it was a little hard for me.  I kept finding myself wanting to layout a design.  I would piece together a few pieces and then start laying it out again to make a pattern.  I had to keep scooping it up in a pile and telling myself to stop cheating :)

I didn't do anything to crazy.   Mostly I did some random horizontal lines and then cut them up to add some vertical lines.  I really like the way it turned out (sorry for the lousy picture).  It fits the project perfect and by the end of the process I was really starting to have fun.  It was a blast to be surprised by the look that just kept changing.  I think I will for sure be doing this again in the future.

My favorite thing about this type of piecing . . . It used about every little scrap I had leftover from the top.  I had to grab some white out of my stash to make the project large enough, which I was really excited for.  It has cute little dragonflies on it in all different colors and frames the randomness.  I think it was the perfect finish :)

Improv. Quilt Back

Oh my goodness, We had a fabulous Memorial Day Weekend!!!  Sadly, I forgot to take the camera. (of course)  So I will try to sum it up for you . . . good food, warm sun, beautiful beach, great friends and some very, very happy children!!!

So now this morning, I have been running around like a chicken with my head cut off trying to sort our laundry, pay bills, and basically get life back together.  But I did take a few seconds out to check out what kind of leftovers I had after completing my 30's reproduction fabric project (Which I promise to show more of in the coming future :)

I love pieced backs and am excited that I should have enough leftover to make a cute pieced backing.  I have never made a pieced back completely improvising as I go but I keep hearing how fun it is.  So I decided this morning, today is the day to check that off my list.  I know this will be hard for me as I always like to have a plan, but I have made up my mind.  I am just going to start picking things up and sewing, and see how it ends up :)  Wish me luck :)

Have you improvised pieced before??  Do you like it or not so much??  Tell me your story before I share my experience and opinion. (hopefully tomorrow, if all goes to plan, which it never does :)
