Aloha!!!

The last 6 days I have been soaking up the sun and enjoying the beautiful Hawaii.  My husband had a conference on the Big Island so naturally, I tagged along ;)

My Father-In-Law, Bob, was also attending the conference so that meant Barbara tagged along as well :)

And my oh my, what a great time we had!!!  Each afternoon, when the guys were done with their conference, we played in the water, hiked the National Volcano Park, snorkeled, and all around enjoyed ourselves.

The beaches and lava cliffs were absolutely stunning.  I could have sat and watched the waves crash for hours.  I am so memorized by the way water moves, it is like a dance.

And when the men were in their conference, Barbara and I hit the streets for some shopping.  There are 7 quilt shops on the big island and we managed to visit 5 of them (2 we only drove by because they were on the other side of the island and the men didn't want to stop on our way to snorkeling, can you believe that?? :)  Each shop was so fun!!!  I especially loved finding fun Hawaiian prints.  Aren't these so cute!!!

And one of the shops even had a Superior Thread Display.  They couldn't believe I lived a mere 45 minutes from the warehouse ;)  It was so fun to talk shop with the owners and see how the retail side works when they are so far away from everything.  Very enlightening and so enjoyable ;)

And I had to smile when I even found Modern Baby at one of the shops ;)   I told the ladies there that I had a project in it and they paraded me around the cutting counter showing everyone there my project ;)  I know it is silly, but I was totally feeling like a mini celebrity, so fun :)

I wanted to take a bit of everything home, but that whole limited suitcase room really hampered my style.  So in the end, I decided to focus on prints that I couldn't get back home.

I bought 3 matching flower prints to make the girls some Sarong's and 2 turtle/palm tree prints to make the boys a pair of shorts :)

We got back to Cedar yesterday afternoon to find snow.   But it's okay because we were welcomed with lots of warm hugs from the little ones who we missed dearly ;)  And I got 2 fun fabric packages in the mail while I was gone, which is always a warm welcome as well!!!

Time to get back to some quilting ;)

Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

Modern Building Blocks Back to Nature???

So remember when I posted about how I bought this pattern and jumped on the bandwagon to make it up . . . Well, it has been a month and I haven't started a stitch.   Mostly because I have been debating back and forth on what fabrics to use.

But the other day, I saw this little bundle sitting on my shelf and wondered . . .would it work????   These are the leftover I had from my Modern Solids Box.  I used all of the bright colors for my Off Kilter quilt and was left with this lovely bundle of beautiful muted tones.

So now I am wondering, have I found the right bundle??  Is it time to start cutting??  What do you think???   Can I pull off a Modern Building Blocks Back to Nature edition??

Teaching in 2015

I am so excited for some fun opportunities to teach at the beginning of 2015.

I start out in the first week of January teaching at Quilt St. George!!   I will be teaching 3 classes on January 7th including my Back to Basics, Trade Winds, and Salutations patterns!!!   I can't wait, it is going to be so much fun!!  So if you want some beautiful sunshine in the middle of winter,, be sure to check out this retreat in beautiful St. George Utah. It is going to be a blast!!!

Then, just a few weeks later at the end of January, I get to teach in my home town of Cedar City, Utah at the Cedar Chest Quilter's Guild Retreat!!  This will be my 4th year teaching at this retreat and I just love it more and more each year.  It is so fun to get to see so many people that come back year after year and then meet new friends there for the first time ;)  I will be teaching Petal Pop and Wonky Irish Chain at this retreat and my classes are almost full, so you gotta move fast for this one ;)

And then in March, I will be heading out to Glendale California to teach at the Glendale Quilt Guild's 36th Annual Quilt Show and Retreat!!!  And can I just say I am so honored to come out and be one of their guest teachers!!   I will be teaching In Your Neighborhood and Wonky Irish Chain on March 14th and I am just so excited!!!   It is always fun to get to see a new show but to have a small part in it as well is just so incredible.  I can't wait!!!

Teaching is one of my all time favorite parts of this whole quilting community.  I just love to share my passion with others and see them get excited to discover new things.   It really doesn't get much better than that.   So if you are in the area for any of these or looking for a good place to visit, I would love to see ya there ;)
