Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Top

First off, a huge thank you to everyone that weighed in on their favorite layout for the 4th of July Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt.  The Stacked Squares was the overall favorite!!!  Isn't it just so much fun!!!

After taking all of the original layout pics, I had to clean these blocks off the floor and finish up another project (more on that soon).  I always worry when I have to set something aside that doesn't have a deadline because I know that is how my WIP get numbered up.   So as soon as I finished the other mentioned  project done, I quickly laid these back out and got them all sewed up into a quilt top!!!

Don't you just love the way it looks from the angles.  So cool!!!  Now I just need to make up a quilt back and decide on some binding.   I am pretty sure I want to quilt it in wavy lines, so that it has kind of a "flat blowing in the breeze" kind of effect to it.   But, I have another project that has to be quilted first (deadlines) so this one will have to wait until next week.  But I am so gonna make sure it gets squeezed back in soon.

I can't wait to see it all done!!!   This has just been such a super fun swap!!!  I totally want to do another one now ;)

Give It A Spin

One of my favorite things about designing quilts is seeing how little tiny changes can create an entirely new design.   This morning I was playing with some Half Rectangle Triangles in EQ7.  I started out with just putting them all in a line like this.

Start

And then, I clicked on the Spin Tool (aka rotate tool, but I think spin sounds like more fun) and started to see what I could come up with.   And with just changing the orientation of the blocks, I found all these fun variation designs.

Variation 1

Variation 2

Variation 3

Variation 4

And of course, there are still a ton more designs that I could make!!  Isn't it just so amazing though how totally different they can look simply from spinning!!!  I always am just blown away how shapes work out that way.  So fun!!!  I could play for hours, but I really should start the laundry at some point, tee hee hee ;)

Incidentally, do you have a favorite layout from the options above??  It just might end up as a tutorial coming soon ;)

Come Sew With Me in January!!!!

So, January just happens to be the month for retreats here in Utah.   I will be teaching 3 weekends at 3 separate retreats and I am so very excited!!!!  So if you happen to be in the Utah area come January, maybe you want to come sew with me and some awesome quilting friends as well!!!

First up, January 6-9th is the Quilt St. George Retreat in beautiful (and still nice and warm in January) St. George!!!  I will be teaching 3 classes as well as doing a dinner Trunk Show all on Friday the 8th ;)  It is going to be a super fun filled quilting day for sure !!!   Friday morning  I will be teaching my String of Pearls quilt from Irish Chain Quilts.   Then in the afternoon it's Two Paths Crossed, also from Irish Chain Quilts.   At dinner time, I will be doing an Irish Chain Quilts Trunk Show sharing all of the quilts from the book and having a super yummy dinner as well.  And finally, that evening I will be teaching my Summer Breeze quilt ;)

Next, two weeks later, January 21-23  is Winter Quiltfest in Logan, Utah!!   This is my first time teaching at Quiltfest and I am so excited!!!!!!   Not only do I absolutely love teaching, but Jen Kingwell is one of their national teachers and I am hoping to squeeze in a class from her as well.  So fun!!!   On Friday, January 22nd I will be teaching 2 classes.  In the morning I will be teaching my Braided Irish Chain Quilt and in the afternoon I will be teaching my Petal Pop Quilt.   Both have lots of size options so you can totally make the project that fits you.

And finally, January 27-30th is the Cedar Chest Quilters Retreat in my home town of Cedar City!!!  I always love teaching, but there is something a little extra special about teaching at home ;)    I will be teaching 2 classes at this retreat.  On Thursday morning I will be teaching The Village Square from Irish Chain Quilts.   And then on Saturday afternoon, I will be teaching my In Your Neighborhood Quilt.   And I am so looking forward to the all-night sew, it is my favorite part of this retreat!!!

So ya, a whole lot of sewing fun come January!!!   Registration has just opened for all three of these retreats, so if you are interested, pop on over and check them out.  Ya, I am so looking forward to January!!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

First Day of School!!!

Well, the summer has officially ended and it's off to another year of school.   Things are awfully quiet around here at the moment.  Starting a new school year always has such mixed emotions to go with it, ya know ;)   But I don't want to get all into that, or I will just end up with more mixed emotion tears for the morning ;)  So let's do a roll call instead

Spencer, our oldest, is going into 7th grade and loves middle school.   Our elementary troop are first Jessica in 5th grade, and she is already looking forward to middle school next year ;)   Kristian is in 3rd grade this year and is all boy,   And finally,  Kamryn is in 1st grade and is so excited to be going school full day now, she couldn't wait to make a lunch this morning.   And not to forget, little Jocelyn, who will be mommy's big helper all year long.

I think it is going to be another great year ;)   And now, I am off to do some sewing while Jocelyn sets up the Barbie Thread Cone Palace, Good Times!!!!
