Everything but the Kitchen Sink

I am off to go teach in beautiful Bryce Canyon at the Quilty Friends Retreat!!!   I am so excited ;)   And what with teaching last week at the Cedar Quilt Retreat, and getting ready for this retreat, and getting a last minute secret sewing project in the mail . . .  I didn't have time to do a few scheduled posts.   So it's going to be a little quiet around here for the next few days.  But no worries, I will have lots of fun to stuff to share when I get back.  And I will try to remember to posts pictures at the Retreat on Facebook and Instagram, but I admit, I am not great at remembering that, so no promises ;)

And please tell me that when you go to a retreat, you feel like you are packing Everything but the Kitchen Sink.     I am not the only one that has endless amounts of bags and carrying totes right ;)

Threadology QAL - Ohio Star Blocks

It's February 1st and that means it is the start of the Threadology Quilt Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop!!!!  Today I am so excited to share the first set of  blocks!!!  These first set of blocks are Ohio Star blocks and they are just so much fun to piece!!!!  Look at all of those fun points and I just love making classic quilt blocks ;)

So on the 1st and the 15th of of each month for the next 4 months, there will be a new Threadology Block released.  And was you can see, the blocks are in two sizes.   A larger 12" block that is great to piece and goes together in a snap.  And the second is a super cute 6" block that is wonderful for building technique of piecing with smaller sizes :)   They are both just so fun to make!!!

So are you joining in the Threadology fun???  If so, you can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $5.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  This is Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL that is raising funds for an amazing organization.  What a wonderful way for us all to make a difference !!   And Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will match up to $20,000 of the donations raised.  So let's help them reach that goal ;)

This year it is all about Fat Quarters for this Quilt Along and after some playing around in my stash, I decided to use a collection of Bonnie and Camille fabrics that I have stashed for a while now.  And the Original quilt kits are all sold out, but of course, you can use any fabrics.   If you haven't gotten them yet, you can find the Fabric Requirements here ;)

And as soon as you go to start making your blocks, you will see that I am changing things up a bit. If you remember from this post  I am planning to donate this quilt to the Festival of Trees so I wanted to do a more universal layout ;)   I am super excited to see all this patchwork goodness come together!!!

And speaking of making your blocks . . .  like always, Fat Quarter Shop has made awesome  You Tube video tutorials that walk you through making each month's blocks.  There are some great helpful hints and you can see it put together step by step!!!

Be sure to share all of your Threadology progress on social media with #threadologyquiltalong and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for Block 1 for lots more Ohio Star Block Inspiration!!!

And that's it for the first block in the Threadology Quilt Along!!!!   I will continue to share a new set of blocks on the 15th and 1st of each month.  So fun!!!  So what do you say, wan't to come Threadology Quilting Along??  You are going to have so much fun!!!

Thanks for popping in today ;)  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

January Sew Sampler!!

Here it is, the last day of January.  Did anyone else's month seem liked you just blinked and it was over ;)   But the great thing about the month going by fast was it meant it didn't seem I had to wait as long for my January Sew Sampler box !!!      The theme for the box is Spool of Love and it was filled with so much Quilty Goodness ;)  Have I mentioned how much I love my Sew Sampler box?? (tee hee hee :)

For starters, Bonnie and Camille.  I mean, need I say more ;)   I just love Bonnie and Camille fabrics.  (and yes, I say that about just every designer, but hey, I really do love them all!!!)    So I was super excited  when I open it to find a Little Snippets Petite Honey Bun, which are 1 1/2" strips, that are so cute!!  And there is also Little Snippets Yardage for finishing the Sew Mates pattern that was included.  How cute is that!!!  I just love that Fat Quarter Shop keeps sending us everything we need to make the project :)

And this month's notions had me smiling :)  I have been totally geeking out over the Ruby Olfa Cutters that have been popping up in celebration of Olfa's 40th anniversary!!!   And I have to laugh as I am writting this because just yesterday,I was asked when teaching . . . "How many Rotary Cutters do you own, and how many do you actually use."   To which I answered, "I am not sure, and I use all of them!!!"  In my opinion, you can never have to many ;)
And I so loving this Little Snippets Notepad.  I am always looking for a scrap paper in my sewing room for doing quick match calculations, so this little pad is staying right next to the pen jar!  And I already told the kids, no "borrowing it" like they did with the post-it pad I had there before ;)

And of course, with a new box, there is a new Barn Block!!!  And this month's block was super easy and went together in no time at all.   And I have to say, I am starting to really have to get to the bottom of my grey scraps to find a piece large enough to make the barn!!!  Yippee for using scraps.   Good thing there are only 2 more blocks to go in this Barn Raising ;)

And that's my January Sew Sampler Box!!!    Maybe February will go by just as fast as January did and before I know it, another little aqua box will be in the mail ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
