Vintage Sunburst QAL - Month 6

It's Month 6 of the  Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and I have to admit, I missed Month 4 and 5.  Things just got crazy busy and I didn't get my blocks done.   And I realized, the only way I was going to have a chance at catching up is to do some major chain stitching!!!   So here is this month's share for the Vintage Sunburst Quilt

I decided to just make all of my remaining blocks in the   8" Vintage Sunburst Paper Piecing pads and  Blossom Basics, in all of the warm tones :)   Yes, i still need to add the borders to the blocks, but that will be last month.

It was so much faster to make these just super chain stitching.  I just kept making giant stacks of sunburst units.   It meant each step took a longer of course, but it was nice to do each step just once.   I think I will have to make the 12" Paper Piecing Pads and the  Blossom Basics, in cool tones the same way.   And wouldn't you know it, I managed to get one center near perfect!!!  Yippee ;)

The quilt will finish at 64" x 88" so it will be a nice large throw size when complete.   The free pattern for this Quilt Along can be found right here ;)  And because I only did the warm colors, my leaders and enders are going to have to wait for some cool scraps.   But they are sure coming along from the previous blocks!!

So do you want to work on your paper piecing skills as well??  Pop over the the Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along page to get all of the details and join me in some paper piecing fun :)

Moonbeams Quilt Along - Release 4 - Wishing Star and Friendship Star Blocks

Today is the fourth block release of the Moonbeams Quilt Along and I am just so loving this QAL!  This is Fat Quarter Shop's 11th Annual Charity Quilt Along and they are always my favorite :)  The 1st Friday of each month will be a new release for blocks and today are the Wishing Star and Friendship Star Blocks.   And these two blocks are just so fun in all of their star piecing goodness ;)

I am using Imaginary Flowers for by Gingiber for my blocks.   I am just loving how all the prints pop on that beautiful navy background :)   And there are still some  Moonbeams Quilt Kit and Backing Set featuring Strawberry Lemonade Fabrics by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics available, just in case you still want to jump in with this super fun QAL ;)     But of course, this quilt will look amazing in any fabrics you choose.  You can find the Fabric Requirements for the Moonbeams Quilt Along here!!!

So are you joining in with the Moonbeams Quilt Along fun???   You can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $10.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  And I am super excited to say that even though we are only on month 4,  Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL has almost raised a quarter of the goal!!!  The goal is $100,000 which will allow for 16 wishes to be granted.  How awesome is that!!!  And Moda Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop have joined to match up to $30,000 :)  So many amazing wishes :)

Be sure to share all of your Moonbeams progress on social media with #moonbeamsqal and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for the Wishing Star and Friendship Star Blocks for lots more Moonbeams Inspiration!!!

GO! My Happy Place Wall Hanging and Free Pattern!!!

I am so excited to share a new finish today!!! It's called My Happy Place and it just makes me so happy!!!  When  AccuQuilt asked if I wanted to make a project using their new GO! Sewing Machine Die, I knew I just needed to make another purple mini quilt for my purple sewing room ;)   And you can make your own Mini in your favorite color!!!  There is a free PDF Pattern that you can download right here :)

Isn't it just so fun to see how AccuQuilt  posed this picture to see how cute it is in a sewing room.  (although, I think we would need a bigger table to sew on ;)   I combined the GO! Sewing Machine Die with the  LeMoyne Star die to design this little wall hanging!!!   I just love how the sewing machine is center in starry goodness, cause ya know, I like making star quilts!!!

I used White Paper Grunge for my background fabric and then 3 shades of Purple Grunge for my piecing.  Cause ya know, I love Grunge as well.   And if I am making a mini to hang on my Purple Sewing Room wall, you better believe it will be pieced in purple!!   You just needs some 1/2 yard and 3/4 yard cuts and you can whip this up in no time.   The My Happy Place Wall Hanging finishes at 22" x 22" so it is will go perfect with all your mini's.

I just love my AccuQuilt for cutting out applique!!  Can you imagine having to trace and then cut out those tiny letters by hand.   You also attach the fusible before you cut, so it is super easy to layer and stack your applique to the quilt and then fuse it .   And I love that the LeMoyne Star is pieced in traditional diamonds rather than HST's.  It just looks so pristine not to have a seam running through the center of each star point.   Below is a list of the dies I used, see which ones you already have in your die library and maybe add a few more ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I wanted to do something dense because the applique was over the whole quilt and I did not secure stitch around each applique.   Rather I decided to secure stitch it with the quilting.  So a nice dense crosshatch keeps all of the applique nice and neat.   And of course,  I love all of the texture it adds to the quilt as well.

And that is my My Happy Place Wall Hanging mini quilt.   I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   Isn't this picture AccuQuilt took of it just so great!!!  And if you want to make your own, (in your favorite color)  you can download the free PDF My Happy Place Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your My Happy Place Wall Hanging mini quilts!!!

Oh, and fun little side note . . . if you want to see this shared on YouTube, you can visit the Die Launch video.  It is shared towards the end of the show at 48:20 minutes in :)  It is just so fun to see your projects loved so much, just makes me smile.

3 new Quilt Swirls!!!

Quilting and Cruising Quilting and Cruising equaled three new quilt swirls to add to my "to be quilted" pile ;)    I have the sample I made for class plus two bonus projects I got done in the early mornings before class started.

This is the Nordic Nights class sample that I made before sailing.  I used the kit that Stitchin Heaven had put together.  It turned out so cute, but I didn't quilt it before we left as I didn't have room in my suitcase for my original and this one quilted.   So now it is joining the "to be quilted" pile.

And in the mornings, I worked on two of my little Sew Sampler Projects!!  I finished up the Bobbin Blooms  first and just love how it all came together!!  It is just so soft and pretty and I can't wait to get it quilted up.  Although, I think it is going to need another press first as it got super wrinkled in the suitcase :)

And I finished all of the blocks for my Sweet as Honey quilt on the ship, and just finished adding the sashing to finish the quilt top!!  I just love how happy this one is and I am so glad to have it put together as it has been cut out and waiting to be pieced for quite a while!!!  Hopefully, it won't wait as long to be quilted ;)

And with these 3 quilt tops being added to my "to be quilted pile" I think I am over 20 waiting.   Oh goodness, I said I wasn't going to let it happen again . . . but I think I might be needing another  Quilting Marathon soon ;)
