Prairie Patchwork Quilt

So if you know what a fan I am of Little House on the Prairie, you would know that I was super excited when my good friends at Riley Blake asked if I wanted to make a sample of the Prairie Patchwork Quilt featuring Melissa Gilbert's (Laura Ingles from Little House on the Prairie) first fabric line, A Walk on the Prairie earlier this year for the H and H show.     And ya know, Melissa making Melissa's quilt . . .that is pretty cool too!!   And after going all over the place to shows and photo shoots (seriously, look at these awesome pictures Riley Blake took of this quilt!!!)  it came home last week!!!  And even better, A Walk on the Prairie is now in quilt shops so you can make one too ;)

The colors and prints of this A Walk on the Prairie fabric line are just gorgeous!!!   This pictures really shows how rich they are in their dusty prairie goodness ;)  There are so many gorgeous florals in this line, and the gingham, stripes, and dots just pull it all together perfectly.  And don't they just shine in this Prairie Patchwork Quilt!!!  It is just what you would imagine being on the bed of a Prairie home :)   The quilt finishes at 80 3/4" x 102" so it is a great twin size with lots of drape.    And I think it would also make a great decor hanging on a quilt rack.  It's just so pretty in all of its piecing goodness!

And guess what . . . this quilt is Pieced on Point!!!  Yup, it is a really cool way of putting together the quilt and then you are only dealing with square patchwork.   So great!!!   And I have to say, I just love all of the tiny 1" square patchwork that borders the blocks.   It is just so perfect and oh so fun to piece :)  So  truly, it is a lot easier than it looks.

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to do some fun custom quilting.   I mean, if it is going to go all over for pictures, it needed to get super fancied up ;)    I couldn't help but do wavy arches in those  perfectly pieced squares in the block centers.   I quilted swirls in the larger floral blocks and then I filled in the background with tiny curls.   And finally, I finished off the borders with a lovely giant feather.  And it just turned out oh so pretty, I love it!!!

And of course, it added so much lovely texture to the quilt!!!   And now this quilt is hanging on my quilt rack at home and it just makes me smile.  And if you love this quilts as much as I do, (and love some tiny piecing) you can make your own!!!  The Prairie Patchwork Quilt Kits are now available, (and were so popular, they re already on backorder :) and they even come in a beautiful keepsake box!!   You are so going to love making this quilt!!!

And that is it for my Prairie Patchwork Quilt :)  This quilt will have a special place in my heart, and I am so glad that I got to share it with all of you!!!   Thank you so much for popping in today :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Home Town Holiday Sampler QA - Week 6

We now find ourselves at Week 6 of the Home Town Holiday Sampler Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and we sewed something new and fun this week!!   A Home and Trees, so so cute ;)   This week we are making the Home Block, 2 Inner Trees, 2 Middle Trees, and 2 Outer Trees!!! And those Inner Trees sure have a lot of tiny triangles in them :)  So much fun!!!

Vintage Sunburst - Month 10 - Quilt Top

It's Month 10 of the  Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and I am so happy!!!  This month I pieced all of my 25 Sunburst Blocks together and they are just so great :)  They colors are just so happy making I can't help by smile every time I see it hanging in the "to be quilted" closet ;)   Can you believe it, we are almost done with the  Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along!!

And ya, I just can't keep it a secret with the swirl.   It is just so much fun to share ;)   I used 6" and 12" Paper Piecing Pads with Blossom Basics  divided into Warm Tones and Cool Tones.   Aren't they just so fun to see the two blocks finally come together!!!  Eekk, I just love it.   Now I just need to decide how I am going to quilt it , it needs something super fun to go with all those happy bright colros ;)

And we will see if I get all of the leftover pieces sewn into leaders and enders to make a back.  I have started to work on it, but the pile is huge!!!!

It is probably a little late to join the QAL, but you can always make your own Vintage Sunburst Quilt with the free pattern for this Quilt Along  here ;)   It is such a great way to work on your paper piecing skills!!   I have just loved this fun challenge!!   And I so can't wait to share the quilt all quilted and bound and finished next month ;)
