Baby Scrappy Carpenter's Wheels

I am so thrilled to be sharing my two newest finishes today!!!  You might recall that I dropped a hint after cutting out my Starlite Rainbow Quilt that I was having so much fun playing with scraps, I decided to make some more Classic Scrappy Quilts :)   And today, I get to share them with you!!!  After having so much fun with my Prairie Star BOB die I decided the Carpenter's Wheel BOB die was going to be next to try, because a Carpenter's Wheel Quilt has been on my bucket list to make about as long as a Prairie Star Quilt has been ;)   And here they are . . . 2 Scrappy, Happy, Baby Carpenter's Wheel quilts, one for boy and one for girl!!!

If you have followed along with me for a while now, you know I love scrappy quilts, but I like to call them Organized/Controlled Scrappy quilts!!!  I always like to balance my scrappy with a good color management choice.   So for these two baby quilts, I choose 2 color Scrappy, and matching a nuetral with a color in 2 color quilts is always a winner.   So for all girl, black and pink.

And for all boy, blue and brown.   Aren't they just so fun!!!   I even kept the scrappy theme going in the background, with tone on tone whites for the girl quilt, and tone on tone creams for the boy quilt.  And I just love the added pop it gives to the background!

I know I have said it before, but I just love my AccuQuilt for cutting scraps!!   It makes tackling these classic quilts with "odd sized" shapes so much easier.  And I love not having to cut each scrap one at a time with a special ruler, just stack and go ;)  The  Carpenter's Wheel BOB die also has the clipped corners, so lining everything up when piecing is super easy and no need to trim anything.

I did the boy quilt is a more "classic" Carpenter's Wheel layout, and the girl quilt I mixed it up a bit and played with the layout to make a fun new design.   You can save the images above and print them out if you want to use the same layout's in your own quilts ;)  They finish at 42" square with 2" finished sashing so they are just perfect for baby ;)

When it came time to quilt them, I decided an some all over favorites!!   So it was swirls on the boy quilt, and paisley's on the girl quilt.   And it is hard to see, but I actually used a baby blue thread on the boy quilt and a baby pink thread on the girl quilt.  I love the little added pop it gives the quilting ;)

And those are my Scrappy Baby Carpenter's Wheel quilts,  And I am just so excited to be able to cross off another Classic To Make Someday Quilt from my list.   Now to decide which one to tackle next :)   I can tell already, it's going to be a great year for whittling down the "to make someday" list.   So exciting!!!

Oh, and fun little side note . . . if you want to watch me share these Scrappy Carpenter's Wheel quilts on the Live AccuQuilt Show, you can see it here , I come and visit at about 13 1/2 minutes in!    And I have to say, it was a little less scary the second time, but you can still see my hands shake, tee hee hee ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

  4. Melissa, if I don't have an Accuquilt cutter, is there a pattern for this?

    1. If you graph this star out on graph paper, you can see that you can easily piece this with HST units and squares, no special cuts needed!
