P and Q Sampler QAL - Month 7

It's Month 7 of the  Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along and I am just so loving this quilt along!!!    I just can't wait to see this quilt top come together ;)  Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for hosting this awesome quilt along from the Celebrate with Quilts book!! And here is the month 7 finishes!!

I am making my Piece and Quilt Sampler in a diagonal Rainbow of Ombre goodness. (see plan here )  And I just love it when the blocks are two colored like this 12" Arizona Block.   Isn't it fun how it transitions from the purple to the red. And this was such a great block to make!

Then it was on to the 4 Tulip Lady Finger Blocks that are each 6".  And yes, those are 48 HST's that all finish at 1".   Aren't they just so cute.   I love that this block is done in two different fabric layouts as it will look so cool when they are sewn together into a large block!!

There is still time to join in the Piece and Quilt Fun!!!  This is such a fun QAL!  Oh, and once you are done your blocks, Be sure to share your Piece and Quilt Sampler progress on social media with #PieceAndQuiltSamplerQAL :)  There is so much Piece and Quilt inspiration in that hashtag :)

And that's it for Month 7 - 4 of the 6" Tulip Lady Finger blocks,  and a 12" Arizon block in the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along!!!!

Thanks for popping in today ;)  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!

HTHS QA - Week 7

It is now week 7 of the Home Town Holiday Sampler Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and I have to say, this was my favorite week of sewing so far!!  Making these letters was just so fun (and quick) and I just loved using all of the Low Volumes ;)   A, B, C, D in all of their scrolly goodness!!!

For my Sampler I am using Sweetwater Christmas Prints from several lines paired with a POParazzi Grey Background.  And seriously, I can't tell you how much I have been looking forward to the letters so that I could see all of the low volume prints just pop on that background.  I just love it!!!

And that is it for Week 7 of of the Home Town Holiday Sampler Quilt Along!!!   You can make your own Home Town Holiday Sampler as well, you just need Lori Holt's  Home Town Holiday Sampler Book!   You can see the complete schedule here and check out all the details here and come quilt along ;)

Swirling Leaves featuring Bittersweet Farm

Today is another new quilt share day and it is just perfect for this splendid Fall Season we know find ourselves in (although, we managed to get three inches of snow this morning ;) I am such a fan of Teresa Kogut and her wonderful folksy prints. When I saw her Bittersweet Farm collection I just knew it would make the cutest Swirling Leaves Quilt ;) And didn't it just turn out so great!!!

I have been wanting to make my Swirling Leaves Quilt with a dark background for some time, and I knew that that tone on tone green print in this line would make a perfect darker background!!! It is always so fun to go outside of the box of a neutral background and play with some color. And I love that picking from the line will guarantee that everything matches just perfectly!! The Swirling Leaves Quilt is Layer Cake Friendly so you just have to grab a stack and get cutting :)

And while this might look a little complex, the Swirling Leaves Pattern is truly is a beginner quilt with basic quilting techniques.   You will be making HST, Stitch and Flip Stems, and lovely two patch blocks to whip up your leaves and the chain to go around them. Cause, you all know I just love a quilt with a secondary chain design ;) And isn't that border just so cute with all of the scarecrows peeking out!!

And when it came time to quilt mine, I opted for an all over loose feather.  I love how this gives the look of a twisting and turning. Almost like the leaves falling from the trees, And I think it totally adds to the vintage vibe of this quilt.  And I used a gold thread, and it just looks so great in it's fall goodness!!!

And like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, the the nice thing is, the Swirling Leaves Pattern has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. This is the picnic size, (which is perfect for a Fall throw) but you can make it from a Table Topper size all the way to a King size ;)   And big blocks means it will come together super quick, so you can whip one up and enjoy it right now!!!

And that is my Swirling Leaves Quilt featuring the Bittersweet Farm Collection by Teresa Kogut ! I hope you have enjoyed this post and I hope you make your own Swirling Leaves Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see it! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags #happyquiltingmc and #swirlingleavesquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Swirling Leaves Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me!

Until next time . . . Happy Quilting!!!

Prairie Patchwork Quilt

So if you know what a fan I am of Little House on the Prairie, you would know that I was super excited when my good friends at Riley Blake asked if I wanted to make a sample of the Prairie Patchwork Quilt featuring Melissa Gilbert's (Laura Ingles from Little House on the Prairie) first fabric line, A Walk on the Prairie earlier this year for the H and H show.     And ya know, Melissa making Melissa's quilt . . .that is pretty cool too!!   And after going all over the place to shows and photo shoots (seriously, look at these awesome pictures Riley Blake took of this quilt!!!)  it came home last week!!!  And even better, A Walk on the Prairie is now in quilt shops so you can make one too ;)

The colors and prints of this A Walk on the Prairie fabric line are just gorgeous!!!   This pictures really shows how rich they are in their dusty prairie goodness ;)  There are so many gorgeous florals in this line, and the gingham, stripes, and dots just pull it all together perfectly.  And don't they just shine in this Prairie Patchwork Quilt!!!  It is just what you would imagine being on the bed of a Prairie home :)   The quilt finishes at 80 3/4" x 102" so it is a great twin size with lots of drape.    And I think it would also make a great decor hanging on a quilt rack.  It's just so pretty in all of its piecing goodness!

And guess what . . . this quilt is Pieced on Point!!!  Yup, it is a really cool way of putting together the quilt and then you are only dealing with square patchwork.   So great!!!   And I have to say, I just love all of the tiny 1" square patchwork that borders the blocks.   It is just so perfect and oh so fun to piece :)  So  truly, it is a lot easier than it looks.

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to do some fun custom quilting.   I mean, if it is going to go all over for pictures, it needed to get super fancied up ;)    I couldn't help but do wavy arches in those  perfectly pieced squares in the block centers.   I quilted swirls in the larger floral blocks and then I filled in the background with tiny curls.   And finally, I finished off the borders with a lovely giant feather.  And it just turned out oh so pretty, I love it!!!

And of course, it added so much lovely texture to the quilt!!!   And now this quilt is hanging on my quilt rack at home and it just makes me smile.  And if you love this quilts as much as I do, (and love some tiny piecing) you can make your own!!!  The Prairie Patchwork Quilt Kits are now available, (and were so popular, they re already on backorder :) and they even come in a beautiful keepsake box!!   You are so going to love making this quilt!!!

And that is it for my Prairie Patchwork Quilt :)  This quilt will have a special place in my heart, and I am so glad that I got to share it with all of you!!!   Thank you so much for popping in today :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Vintage Sunburst - Month 10 - Quilt Top

It's Month 10 of the  Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and I am so happy!!!  This month I pieced all of my 25 Sunburst Blocks together and they are just so great :)  They colors are just so happy making I can't help by smile every time I see it hanging in the "to be quilted" closet ;)   Can you believe it, we are almost done with the  Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along!!

And ya, I just can't keep it a secret with the swirl.   It is just so much fun to share ;)   I used 6" and 12" Paper Piecing Pads with Blossom Basics  divided into Warm Tones and Cool Tones.   Aren't they just so fun to see the two blocks finally come together!!!  Eekk, I just love it.   Now I just need to decide how I am going to quilt it , it needs something super fun to go with all those happy bright colros ;)

And we will see if I get all of the leftover pieces sewn into leaders and enders to make a back.  I have started to work on it, but the pile is huge!!!!

It is probably a little late to join the QAL, but you can always make your own Vintage Sunburst Quilt with the free pattern for this Quilt Along  here ;)   It is such a great way to work on your paper piecing skills!!   I have just loved this fun challenge!!   And I so can't wait to share the quilt all quilted and bound and finished next month ;)

September Sew Sampler!!

Was it just me, or did we blink and September was over!!!   I have been doing a lot of secret "market sewing" the last little bit so it makes everything just fly by.  But, along with the end of September was my September  Sew Sampler Box !!!   And I just finished making my Sew Sampler block so now I can share ;)   The theme for September was All The Classics and it so fits it's name.  I just love it!!!

I love, love, love this Denim and Daisies Fabrics from Fig Tree Quilts!!!  I love all of the shades of blue, and the pop or orange, amazing!!! And the Reflections quilt is so cute, but I have to admit, I already got some other Denim and Daisies precuts, so I have to decide now if I want to make a bigger quilt with all of them together ;)

And the notions this month are super classic!!!  I absolutely love Creative Grids Rulers, and the 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" is a favorite size!!!   I am excited to add it to my collection of Creative Grid Rulers ;)   And I love me some Aurifl Thread, and this is such a perfect neutral color for pieing with.   And I haven't tried a Hot Ruler before but I am excited to try it out ;)

And like I said at the beginning of the post, I just finished piecing my Pieceful Basket block.   Sadly, one of the yellow fabric triangles just so happened to be on a pink rose, but I think it still works.   Got to love this  Kona Lime Background  and Milk and Honey fabrics :)   I think the grey basket print might be my favorite in the line ;)

And that is September Sew Sampler Box.

And before you know it, Octobers' box will arrive!!!

Happy Quilting!!!

Simply by Design in Calico Cowgirls!!!

Today I am super excited to be sharing this beautiful new Simply By Design quilt finish with you featuring the oh so fun Calico Cowgirl Collection by Lori Woods for Poppie Cotton!! And I am so excited to share this quilt!!!  With the new release of my Simply By Design  Quilt Pattern  I just couldn't wait to make a new version of the quilt using Fat Quarters instead of scraps and a dark background!!!   And these Calico Cowgirl fabrics  were the perfect match for the design.     Didn't it just come together so great!!!

This Simply by Design quilt is such a fun one to make!!!   I used Fat quarters and divided these beauitful prints into 8 wonderful color groupings.   The key to this quilt is all about the color groupings and this line worked perfect for it.   And then I paired all of these bright happy colors with  Country Confetti Rodeo Arena Brown and they just sing!!  These just make me smile!!

Simply by Design it truly is a great beginner quilt!!   It goes together quick and is super fun to make.   Again, it is all about playing with color groupings :)    It is made with simply block piecing, and then rotating the blocks into this fun design with sashing to break things up.

And this particular quilt is on it's way to Poppie Cotton to hang at Quilt Market.  Poppie Cotton is hosting the Rest and Relaxation area of Market and is lining it with so many happy quilts.  I am honored to have mine hanging there  ;)

Barbara did the piecing and qulting on this one again :)   Aren't her echoed feather groupings just so cute in the quilting.  They really pull out the fun and whimsy of the design.  Just so charming!!!

And just in case you missed it when I shared this new pattern last week, Simply By Design has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. This is the twin size, but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a queen size ;)  And it really is great for Beginners to Experts alike, it is just a super fun quilt to make!!

And that is my Simply by Design Quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Simply by Design Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see it! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #crossingpathsquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.
