Barn Star Sampler QAL - Block 5

It's Month 5 of the Barn Star Sampler Quilt Along and I am excited to share more blocks!!!  Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for hosting this awesome quilt along, this quilt is really oh so much fun to work on :)    On the last Friday of each month I will be sharing my new Barn Star Sampler blocks, and this month we are sharing Block 5 :)  

I am so happy with how these blocks are coming together in a  Rainbow of Ombre goodness!!!   They just make me smile!!    This month's Block 5 is made . . . 

in Magenta 

 and Slate

Aren't these Northern Star Blocks just so great!!!   I was a little worried abut the contrast when I cut these out.   I was really starting to run out of "contrasting fabric" at this point after cutting some of the super large blocks.   I did have one of the "points" in the Slate from the darker portion of the fabric, but it still looks great so I am super happy about that.   I just love making these blocks!!!

WEEK 7 - PUTTING IT ALL TOGETHER

It's the eighth week of making blocks for the Fast & Fun Sampler Quilt Along and this week we are putting it all together!!!  And just a reminder,  I am making 2 versions of the quilt, so you only need to share one quilt top ;)     You will need your copy of Fast & Fun Lap Quilts (which is available in both hard copy or e-book format)  for the piecing instructions as well as the Week 8 - Putting it all Together Pattern  supplemental directions for making your blocks ;)  I am so excited to see your Quilt Tops!!

And you also get to work on your pieced quilt back, using our row we made last week.  Once again, you will want to use the Week 8 - Putting it all Together Pattern  for supplemental directions to make your quilt back.  

WEEK 7 - SHARE YOUR QUILT TOP

And just like that, you are done with Week 8!!  And now, you get to share your progress!!!   Lets see your week 8 Quilt Top and enter to win one of the Grand Prizes!!!!    Here's how:

THE PARADE

Now, as just mentioned, you only have to have your quilt top done to enter into the grand prize drawing . . . However,  I wanted to encourage you to finish these quilts and not set them in a pile of "to be quilted" so I am planning a Parade for the 7th of June :)  The parade will show off all quilted and bound Fast & Fun Sampler Quilts!!  

So, how do you finish up those quilts??? 

Baste It, Quilt It, and Bind It!!  I know, I make it sound all so simple.  If you are new to quilting, and need some help with these last few steps, you can see my Video Tutorials that go over the basics of how to do this ;)  Also, there are some helpful free motion quilting tutorials if you are stuck on how you want to quilt your project ;)  

Once you have your quilt finished it is ready to be showcased in the Parade.  To be in the Parade, please send me an email at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com  with your favorite finished Fast & Fun Sampler Quilt picture attached as well as your name the way you would like it listed with your photo, where you are from, and a Link if you would like me to link your picture . . .  Blog, Instagram, or Facebook will work great :)    You can email me anytime from now until the evening of June 6th and I will get you added to the Parade!!!  

I am so looking forward to seeing everyone's finishes!!!  It has been so fun to see all of your quilt blocks each week and I can't wait to see them all quilted and bound  ;)   The Grand Prize winners will be announced on June 7th at the end of the amazing parade filled with all of your beautiful quilts.!!!  I can't wait!!!

Come Cruise N Sew With Me ;)

 So I have gotten a lot of emails lately about Cruising and Sewing!! It is oh so much fun ;)   I will  be teaching this September on the Scrappy and Happy Cruise to Alaska, but it is actually all Sold Out.   

 But no worries if you "missed the boat" on that one . . . I am also teaching on the Harmony of Quilting Cruise next May to the Western Caribbean.   So fun!!!! 

I will be teaching my Nordic Nights Quilt, and yes indeed, it teaches you curved piecing.   I love teaching this quilt and showing just how fun curves can be, especially with my Templates to make the cutting super quick and accurate.  Nordic Nights is Fat Quarter Friendly and I know we are all going to have so much fun making this quilt while sailing the beautiful Western Caribbean!!

We will be setting sail from the new port in Galveston Texas, on the Harmony of the Seas (an absolutely amazing ship)  on May 12th of 2024 for a week long adventure through Roatan Honduras, Puerto Costa Maya Mexico, and Cozumel Mexico with lots and lots and lots of Sewing while we are on the Ocean .   

So pop on over and check it out.  I would just love to have you come and sew and sail with me!!!  It is going to be so much fun ;)

WEEK 7 - MERRY-GO-ROUND BLOCKS

It's the seventh week of making blocks for the Fast & Fun Sampler Quilt Along and we are working on blocks for the pieced backing this week!!!  And just a reminder,  I am making 2 versions of the quilt, so you only need to share one set of blocks ;)     You will need your copy of Fast & Fun Lap Quilts (which is available in both hard copy or e-book format)  for the piecing instructions as well as the Week 7 - Merry-Go-Round Block Pattern  supplemental directions for making your blocks ;)  This week we will be so fun making blocks from the  Merry-Go-Round Quilt!!!

We will be making 5 Merry-Go-Round Blocks and 4 Sashings from the Merry-Go-Round Quilt.     You will be using directions from pages 39-45 in your book and the Week 7 - Merry-Go-Round Block Pattern for supplemental directions to make your blocks.  

And once your blocks and sashing units are made, be sure to sew them into one long row for the center strip of your pieced backing ;)

Garden of Quilts - Registration Open!!!

 I am so excited to be returning to the Garden of Quilts this fall to teach ;)   And I wanted to let you know that registration is open, so you can sign up for all of the wonderful Classes, Special Events and of course, the amazing Exhibit of Quilts hung throughout the gorgeous 50-acre gardens!!!    It is going to be such an amazing event !!!   The Garden of Quilts will be held at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi Utah on September 13th - 16th, 2023.

And speaking of signing up for classes . . . I will be teaching 8 classes!!!  Here is a rundown of the classes I will be teaching, and yes, there are some sneak peeks here of things coming soon!!  So exciting!!
