ReplyDeleteWe live near the ocean so when the grandchildren come for a visit, they love to walk on the beach and collect shells and sea glass. Last summer they made pictures with their treasures, with glue and foam cardboard.
ReplyDeleteMy kids and i like to ambush dad with all the Nerf guns when he comes home from work, but not everyday because you don't want him to expect it!!

ReplyDeleteDefinitely playing outside (bikes, chalk, sprinkler!) and lots of board games!

ReplyDeleteWell, I don't have kids but my cousin does something great. Each day of the week is for something certain. Monday is art day, Tuesday is go on an adventure day, etc.

ReplyDeleteI had lots of picnic lunches when my kiddos were young. I made lunch and we trekked all the way outside to the beautiful tree in our front yard and spread out a blanket. It was special for the kids because it was outside. So simple, but they remember it all. We went to the park lots and lots. I chased them up and down the slides. We went to the pool lots and lots. We didn't have much money. The car was a disgrace but it went far enough to get us to the cheap places. I would gladly trade my nice car now to go back in time to the junker car of the past to have my grown up adult children be young again!
ReplyDeleteLater, there were hikes and real picnics and having a friend come along. One friend at a time so that we had enough seat belts. As they aged, we got a better car. We could go farther and could go to interesting museums and to the zoo.
I always enjoyed the beach or lakes with my kids during the summer. I'd fix pinic lunches and off we'd go. When they were younger it was sprinklers, and water balloon fights in our yard, but I'd still fix a lunch and we would spread out a quilt and picnic at home 😉
ReplyDeleteI recieve Shabby Fabrics News letter
ReplyDeleteA schedule!
ReplyDeleteMundane Monday (errands, groceries, etc)
Play/Park Tuesday (a new to us playground or park)
Wet Wednesday (swimming at a pool/rec centre, usually one new to us)
Thoughtful Thursday (library day!)
Fabulous Friday (somewhere fun and exciting [and expensive], movie, museum, mini golf etc)
Mornings are spent at the beach or playing with friends. Yet with all this fabulous planning and only having two kids, summer is the longest and most hated ten weeks of my life, every year.
I think Nicole above has it all covered!
ReplyDeleteI like Nicole's routine, but I don't think there are enough new to us spots at a close enough location to even last 2 weeks! So we'll spend a lot of time at a friend's pool this summer.
ReplyDeleteI follow shabby fabrics on ig.
ReplyDeleteSwimming, walking, and going to the library are our favorites.
ReplyDeleteI follow them on Pinterest
ReplyDeleteWe like to take the grands fishing, hiking , camping and to museums.
ReplyDeleteEvery day, after chores, we did something fun. Monday-park day, Tuesday-game day, Wednesday-library day, Thursday-art day, Friday-pool day. All things were contingent on chores being done by all five kids, so often they'd work together to help whoever was slowest that day.
ReplyDeleteI love the summer break so I can spend more time with my nieces and nephews!
ReplyDeleteI get the Shabby Fabric Newsletter!
ReplyDeleteWe are making a summer bucket list, so far the kids have added, zoo, swimming, fishing, camping, sculpture garden.

ReplyDeleteAs a kid, I always enjoyed picnics in the park with time to play on the playground. Not too original, but it was fun!

ReplyDeleteOne summer when my four were small we would draw a picture at the end of every day. The picture could be of nature or activity or something that they wanted to remember from that day. At the end of the summer we put them in a scrapbook kind of binder. A couple pf my daughters still have those binders and all of them remember the summer of the scrapbook.
ReplyDeleteI agree with an earlier post about planned days. However, the necessity of reading/vocabulary improvement should be factored in daily!

ReplyDeleteMy children are adults (no grandchildren). Anyways, I used to do lots of science stuff with them in the summer - going to the beach looking and then looking up, making volcanoes with paper mache then putting in baking soda/vinegar. Many other things. Must have been somewhat influential as my daughter is a newly minted PhD in Ocean Chemistry. It's also fun to just go out and observe or to do sun printing on fabric or to make tie dye tshirts. Lots of fabric options!
