So let's see here, what can I tell you that will get you interested to join this particular Quilt-A-Long???
1 - It is super beginner friendly but still a lot of fun for experience quilter's alike.
2 - You will learn some fun techniques for saving time and I promise to do all the math :)
3 - It will last about a month to 6 weeks
(I am due on the 25th of September so I am hoping to finish before then :)
4 - It is being sponosored by the Fat Quarter Shop and they will be having amazing discounts available if you want to do it in the same fabric that I am using. Yippee Skippee for Discounts!!!
5. Oh yes, and you might ask, "What fabric will I be using that you can get a discount on??" Well it is none other than the amazing Joel Dewberry Heirloom which I have been drooling over for a month!!! I am using the Ruby colorway, you can choose whichever color-way you like best!!!
6 - Oh, have I mentioned . . . Fat Quarter Shop will be giving away 3 $50 Gift Certificates as prizes that you are eligible to win if . . . you complete your quilt top!!! 3 , yes count them, 1, 2, 3, people will be walking away from the Quilt-A-Long with $50.00 to spend at The Fat Quarter Shop!!! Oh my, what I could do with that :)
7 - And last, but certainly not least, how cute is this quilt!!! It is a queen size. (but you can always go smaller if you like by doing fewer blocks :) This is the basic concept, we will be changing up the angles and sizes a bit so that everyone's is unique . . .but it gives you the concept. And personally, I think it happens to be a pretty stinking cute and fun concept :) (Although, I might be a bit bias)
So are you interested??? Do you want to Quilt-A-Long???? If so, be sure to grab a button and join our Flickr Group!!!! (It is so great to see everyone's progress) Oh, and you can leave a comment too, it will be fun to see how many might be joining us :) Then make sure to come back on August 8th when the fun all begins!!!!
EDIT *** I will be announcing the fabric requirements on the 8th and giving the discount code for fabric at the Fat Quarter Shop. I will then give you a week before we actually start sewing to get all of your fabric together so no need to worry about that yet. I just wanted to let you all know about the quilt-a-long a few days early so you would have time to think about it and get excited :)
Edit - Here is a Quick Link Reference to all of the posts in this Quilt-A-Long Series
I am excited to see what you have done this time. margaret erb
ReplyDeleteLove the angled stars! However, I have not participated in a quilt-a-long so... how many star squares would I be making to send to you? Would a layer cake of one of the colorways make the blocks or would I need fat quarters/yardage?
ReplyDeleteI would so love to do this; but, I'm on a no spend month. In other words, I can't spend any money on anything unnecessary until Sept. 1st.
ReplyDeleteBut, you can for sure count on me watching and cheering others on and I might join in at the last minute. :-)
This sounds fantastic! I'm a beginner. I just finished my first ever solo quilt top this past week. This looks a bit more challenging than what I've made. My problem has been a sewing machine that just doesn't cut it. There's no point my even trying to match points and seams until I get something that is more conducive to quarter inch seams. If I can snag something like that for myself, I'm SO IN for this starry quilt along.
ReplyDeleteOK, I'm in!
ReplyDeleteHrm. I'm pondering. I just finished one quiltalong, but school starts soon....hrm.
ReplyDeleteI Am Just a Mom . . . There is actually no sending in a Quilt-A-Long. I will teach you how to make the blocks and then you make them and keep them. In the end, you will have a quilt top :)
ReplyDeleteLee Ann . . . You can always use your stash :) This would be pretty cute scrappy as well :)
Love the angled stars and the fabric you are using........I just finished a quilt along......can I do another one?????
ReplyDeleteI MIGHT be in - have to think if I can find the time! I love the quilt design you picked, so it's very tempting!
ReplyDeleteI love stars and these are wonky stars to boot. I will try to come up with some background fabric so I can join in.
ReplyDeleteThis is just what I needed to get my butt back into my sewing room. Since we moved AGAIN the only thing I've made is curtains which were a necessity. Thank you!
ReplyDeletei'm in!! one of my friends that i want to make a quilt for said she liked "star" patterns so i guess this quilt-a-long came just in time to make her a star quilt! woooo!
ReplyDeletelooks like fat quarters are what we'll need. any idea on a number? they have fats on sale now so i wanna pick some up :D
I am due the 26th of Sept! I will be following your quilt a long but I doubt I will do it right now, we have A LOT to do before baby gets here...middle of remodeling basement and baby's room is full of the basement things (yeah we are cutting it close)
ReplyDeleteI am thinking about this ...not sure if I should start another!!
ReplyDeleteOh Yes Melissa it sounds like fun and a Quilt-a-long I can do. Thank you running this interesting sew a long.
ReplyDeleteWill be away on the 8th and may not have computer access can I join in a few days later?
Oh, Joel Dewberry. How I love him.
ReplyDeleteYes please, I want to join you!
I am in! I love QAL's and I love stars too!!!
ReplyDeleteOh.. that Citrine colorway is screaming to me. And those stars are very cool... and I just finished my King size. Tempting, tempting. Going to sleep on it.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try and quilt a-long. I really like the the look of the stars pattern and I have to start somewhere. I really like the citrine fabric too.
ReplyDeleteyou know, i have never done a quilt a long, i have watched several and plan to do them too. although, i did hop on the farmer's wife band wagon. i would love to do this one too!
ReplyDeleteum... aren't you about to have a baby!?! :)
ReplyDeleteThe design is great... I must say. :)
I have just won some Christmas FQs and want to do a wall hanging, I might just join you on this...OMG did I just say that out loud!!!!! Never done a QA before so I will need plenty of hand holding. Hugs Linda xxx
ReplyDeleteI'm in! (But I'm just now working on my bottled rainbows; just sayin') I love the Sapphire Colrway, but I already have fabric to use!! Hooray!
ReplyDeleteI don't see my own comment here so I am re-commenting.
ReplyDeleteCount me in! My best quilt so far was from your last quilt-a-long. I love Fat Quarter Shop too! This is going to be great.
I've been meaning to join in. This may be the one! Looks great.
ReplyDeleteNo funds right now for fabric but I do have lots of scraps.........
ReplyDeleteI would enjoy joining in..........
Found your blog from Anne Marie at Muddy Feet.
Melissa -- Thank you for inviting us to the quiltalong. Quiltalongs and BOM's are about the only way I make a finished quilt. They really keep me going. Thank you also for making it a QUEEN sized top. That is much more useful for me. I'm in. Let us know how to get the discount on the fabrics. I will be choosing the Citrine Heirloom. Very excited to finally use designer stuff! Perfect timing with school starting in a few weeks. That should give me time to stay on track.
ReplyDeleteOh, let me look at my list of projects! LOL I do so want to join in....I may just do it, and UFOs be darned! I can always throw some fabric over them...out of sight, out of mind, right?!
ReplyDeleteJacque at Lilypadquilting (pen name Snoodles)
I need another project like I need a hole in the head but I'm game. Thanks for doing this!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE stars AND Quiltalongs SO I am SOOO In !!!
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to get started !!!
Yeah, I'll try to do this from my stash but no promises that it will get done. Who knows, maybe this will be the spark I need in life right now. Do I really need to sign up on the Flickr? I have never been able to get into Flickr...
ReplyDeleteIs there any way to get an idea of yardage prior to the 8th? Would love to get that part done ahead of time.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds very fun! And who doesn't love The Fat Quarter Shop???
ReplyDeleteI'm in! I can't wait to do this design with the sapphire fat quarters. How do we get the discount? It would be great to be able to order it soon, before the process gets started. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteLove the pattern! I'm a beginning quilter and have never made anything bigger than a runner at this point. I think I might just join you on this one though. It will be lots of firsts for me... so exciting (and scary)! I already have the perfect fabric in mind (& hand) which is good since I'm short on funds. Thanks! :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks like a fun quilt and I do love the look of stars. I'm horrible at saying I may do the quilt along and then not doing it so I'm afraid to commit at all. :( I don't want to let you down ya know. I have a Grandson coming on Sept 2nd (or whenever he decides to arrive of course) and this would be a great quilt but not in that size of course.
ReplyDeleteA few questions:
Is this something we can easily adapt to making a baby size? This question comes from someone who has not ever done a 'real' quilt but has done some quilts in that past. I don't consider those I did to be 'real' quilts but they were super cute although I won't go further into my reasoning here.
Also, because this is only 4 days away can you give us an idea of how much fabric we need to get ordered if we aren't using what we have. Or too, if we are using what we have and need to know if we have enough of any one fabric without going into a scrappy look?? I'm a little afraid of ordering it with the start being so soon.
Thanks
I guess I'm in. Tried to resist.
ReplyDeleteI'm a little scared, but I think I'd like to try it. I sew other things, but I've only made one doll quilt so far. I'm in love with stars, so this would be perfect, and I'm a big fan of having someone else do the math : ) This may be a silly question, but if I wanted to make this into a King sized quilt (overly ambitious, I know, but I need one for my own bed), would I just make extra blocks? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteKaren D and others with questions on fabric . . . . Just FYI . . I will be giving the fabric requirements and the discount code to be used at the Fat Quarter Shop on Monday . . You will then have a week to get your materials and supplies in order before we actually start :) Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteGayle . . . We would love to have you along and no need to be scared. It is super beginner friendly and I will walk you through each step. If you wanted to do a king I would say yes, just add more blocks. An extra row on the side and bottom should be just about perfect :) So 13 extra blocks ;) Hope this helps.
ReplyDeleteSo excited!! I actually just finished your other quilt-along (but I'm not a flickr fan, so it's not there, but it's cute, nonetheless). I've always wanted to do stars, but have been a little scared. I am seriously excited about this! YAY!
ReplyDeleteI'm so thinking of joining! I have been planning to make a Christmas quilt for my family this year and I was really hoping to use stars so this would be perfect! I'm thinking I'll use Sweetwater's new Countdown to Christmas.
ReplyDeleteI am a new follower and love those STARS!
ReplyDeleteThanks!
Thanks for the quilt-along, Stars. I think I could join you!
ReplyDeleteI think Im gonna join you too.
ReplyDeleteCount me in! The quilt looks fun.

ReplyDeletelove following your blog and site & of course the opportunity to win great prizes.
ReplyDeleteWho doesn't love stars. They let us dream and wish for the impossible. Love your blog and of course I'm a follower.
ReplyDeleteI think I would spend my money on some Christmas fabric, Grinch or maybe Santa's little Helpers. All sounds like fun.
ReplyDeleteI've posted your QAL button on my side bar, joined your flickr group and am ready to get started. I luv Joel's Citrine color way but I'm thinking mine will be a red, white, and blue STARS quilt....I'm going to try and get my sister and my 2 nieces to join in too. They are coming from Canada for a 4 day quilting visit....it will be a fun time...
ReplyDeleteThank you Melissa for sharing and guiding us along during the QAL!!! It sounds like fun(o:
