Boho Row Quilt!

It's another secret sewing day, from my friend Stephanie at Fancy That Design House.  And it is also a second quilt featuring her newest collection, Boho Haven.  This was is called the Boho Row Quilt.  Isn't it just so fun with all of the basic piecing!!  And yes, this one is totally beginner friendly and will whip up really fast for you.  It is such a great quilt and oh so much fun to make.

The Boho Row Quilt  really highlights the beautiful prints in Stephanie's brand new Boho Haven Fabric Collection.  And this is another fabulous design where Stephanie really finds a great way to show off the beautiful  Low Volume's in this collection!!  And I just love the bold stripes in orange and brown on the top and bottom of the quilt.  It really just sets off all the other rows!

The Boho Row Quilt finishes at 56" x 69" so it is another great lap size quilt!!!  And I am also wondering on this one, if you changed out the brown prints to something lighter, and then did a brown background . . .wouldn't that just be so great!  I really do just enjoy reimaging quilts with dark backgrounds, they just really pop and a great for quilts that will be well loved :)

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to go with a wavy line.   This is always a fun design to do, and I get lots and lots of steps in going back and forth across the frame ;)  And it just compliments all of the row goodness in this quilt, so fun!!

And  that is my Boho Row Quilt !!   And this is one of those quilts that you can make again and again.  It is just so fun and fast, and comes out with a beautiful finish!! And now that Boho Haven fabrics are in stores, you can make your own!!  You are just going to love making this quilt.

Thanks so much for popping in again to share another finish with me today :)

I hope you are all having a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!

The Sunlit Quilt

Today I get to share some secret sewing that I did a while back for my friend Stephanie at Fancy That Design House.  This quilt features her newest collection, Boho Haven and is called the Sunlit Quilt.  Isn't it so pretty in that exploding star goodness!!    And while it looks a little complex, it actually comes together pretty fast as the pieces are all on a larger scale.  And you end up with this awesome bursting star!!

The Sunlit Quilt  really highlights the beautiful prints in Stephanie's brand new Boho Haven Fabric Collection.  I love that these colors are a little out of my "normal" range.  It is always fun to work on something outside of the box for yourself!   And I love how Stephanie also incorporated a lot of the Low Volume's in this design!!  They really add a light and dark effect to the quilt that just is so happy making.   Just beautiful ;)

The Sunlit Quilt finishes at 52" x 69" so it would make a great lap size quilt!!!  These prints are all just so pretty, and now I want to see it done with a dark background!!    I think it would really make the low volumes, yellows and oranges just pop.  It would be neat to see how it highlights different areas of the star!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to go back to some good ol fashion meanduring.  I haven't done this design in a long time, and Stephanie likes less dense quilting, so I figured it would be the perfect compliment to this large scale design.    It adds so much texture and just makes me happy to do something that I learned at the very beginning of my free motion quilting journey ;)

And  that is my Sunlit Quilt !!   Doesn't it just look so pretty in the morning sunshine!! And now that Boho Haven fabrics are in stores, you can make your own!!  You are just going to love making this quilt.

Thanks so much for popping in again to share another finish with me today :)
Be sure to come back tomorrow for another Boho Haven quilt finish!

I hope you are all having a very Happy Quilting Day!!

Bitty Bits Quilt with Free PDF Pattern!

Today, I am super excited to be sharing this Bitty Bits quilt in beautiful Expressions Batiks along with a Free PDF Pattern for making your own!!! Bitty Bits was one of the improv piecing quilts from my first book, Irish Chain Quilts, and I loved it in the reverse so much, I wanted to make a batik version!  So I grabbed these gorgeous Places You'll Go Batiks and started cutting 5" squares ;)  And I now have the rights to my Irish Chain Quilts book , so . . .  I can share a  Free Bitty Bits PDF Pattern with you all!

Bitty Bits is super beginner friendly and gathering your fabrics is also super versatile for this one ;)  You can use scraps, yardage, fat quarters, and even Layer Cakes or Charm Packs!!!    You are basically just using a whole lot of 5" squares for this quilt ;)   And quick reminder . . .  if you are using scraps, your 5" AccuQuilt Die will really speed up the cutting process.  And if you are using Charm Packs, you are set to go!!    I really love this Places You'll Go fabric collection in this Bitty Bits quilt.  The prints are just so bold and colorful, and they really give it that stained glass effect!!

The Bitty Bits quilt is a very easy one to make.  It uses improv piecing to add all of the fun triangle shapes that create your chain.   If you are new to improv piecing, this is a great introductory lesson for you.   And you can have a lot of fun playing with all of the color and shape layouts.  You will always end up with a bold single triangle chain, but no two will look alike ;)

Bitty Bits finishes at 90" x 90" so it is a perfect size for a queen size bed.   It would make an excellent wedding present as well!   And truly, it comes together super fast considering the size of the quilt. And as I mentioned, there is a free PDF Download of this pattern, so you can make your own!!!

When it came time to quilt my Bitty Bits quilt Barbara stepped in to help.  She quilted all over curly swirls on all of the print fabrics, and then stitched in the ditch around the chain.  Leaving those triangle pieces unquilted really helps to make the chain pop!!   Just so fun ;)

And that is my Bitty Bits Quilt !! I hope you have enjoyed this post. Oh, and if you make your own Bitty Bits Quilt (either in this layout or the original reverse layout)  , I would love to see them!!!   You are going to have so much fun improv piecing these triangles.   And when you are finished  you can share your quilt with me on social media using hashtags #happyquiltingwithmc and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can’t wait to see your Bitty Bits quilts!!!

Thank you so much for popping in with me to share this new Beautiful Bitty Bits Batik Backwards quilt (that is the name I have given this version ;)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

GO! Starring You Baby Quilt and Free Pattern!!!

I am so excited to share a new finish today!!! Isn't it just so adorable!!!   When my good friends at AccuQuilt asked if I wanted to make a project using their new GO! Baby Zoo Animals, and they were just to cute to not turn into a quilt!!  I was looking for a BOB Die that would allow me to create a nice open background space, and the Plaited Block lined up side by side made the perfect space.   Then I threw in the Ohio Star Center so I could personalize the quilt.  And it also led to the name . . . Starring You!    And there is a free PDF Pattern that you can download right here :)

For this one I used lots of Riley Blake Gingham Bee Basics and Confetti Cottons to create that adorable baby boy vibe.  Isn't that gingham just to precious!!  And yes, the Gingham Bee Basics also come in baby girl vibe colors as well.   Isn't it just so precious.   We will be finding out soon if our expected first grandbaby is a boy or a girl, and this one is most likely going to be added to the list of baby quilts to make.   (Can you have to many baby quilts for one little angel??)

The Starring You Quilt  consists of 8 of the Plaited Block and 1 of the  Ohio Star blocks placed in the center.  Think of it as a giant 9 patch with he star in the middle.  The Baby Zoo Animals are placed on the intersection of the blocks.    The Starring You Quilt finishes at 36" x 36" so it is a great little baby quilt size for wrapping up baby, or even decorating the nursery.

And I just love that using the AccuQuilt system for cutting makes all of these crazy shapes so easy to cut and piece.  And could you imagine how long it would take to cut out all the applique shapes??  Its just so fast and easy with the AccuQuilt system, which is why I can make this quilt again ;)   Below is a list of the dies I used to make this Starring You Quilt, see which ones you already have in your die library and maybe add a few more ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I wanted to do something a little dense to keep all of that applique in place, so I opted for swirls.  You know how I just love quilting swirls ;)   I did secure stitch some of the tiny applique pieces like the eyes, noses, and spots, but the rest of the applique is secured with the quilting ;)     And of course, I used my favorite 402 Pearl for the perfect blend on prints and background alike!!

And that is my Starring You Quilt.   I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   Isn't this picture AccuQuilt took of it just so adorable!!!  I love seeing it styled in a home setting.    And if you want to make your own, you can download the free PDF Starring You Quilt Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your Starring You Quilts!!

Oh, and side note . . . you can see a fun little introduction of this Baby Zoo Animals in the introduction You Tube Video right here ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

$5 Pattern of the Month - Butterfly Whirl!!!

It's always a fun day when I get to announce the new $5 Pattern of the Month here at Happy Quilting!!!  And February is all about Butterfly Whirl.  And it is just $5 all month long!!!

The  Butterfly Whirl Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version and both versions will be marked down to $5.00 for the month February.   This is such a fun quilt to make and is way easier than it looks.  It is rated for Beginner and is Layer Cake Friendly.

Butterfly Whirl  uses basic piecing .  Yup, even those adorable tiny butterflies in the center are all pieced.   But I add great pressing directions so that all of your angled seams on the wings will nest, making it easier to get perfect points.   And there are fantastic step by step piecing instructions for piecing all of your butterflies into easy to manage sections so you can end up with them all in a Whirl ;)    It really is just perfect for beginners and still so fun for experts alike!!!

Butterfly Whirl  is a little different from my other Happy Quilting Patterns in that it only has 1 size option.  Sorry about that, the math just didn't math to try and make it multiple sizes.   But it finishes at 84" square, so it is a great Full Size that is perfect for snuggling in  or you can add a border and make it a queen size pretty easy.     Isn't that just so fun!!

And of course, you don't have to use a white background!! You know how I love a dark background.  It just makes all of the colors just pop!! Whatever you decide, just grab a Layer Cake and have fun piecing this wonderful Butterfly Whirl quilt !!

And that is my $5.00 Pattern of the Month!!!   February 2026 is all about the Butterfly Whirl Pattern!!!   You are going to have so much fun making this quilt ;)   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your Butterfly Whirl Quilt I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #squaredancequilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Butterfly Whirl Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Pattern and get Happy Quilting!!!!

January Sew Sampler Box!!

It's the last day in January, so it is time to share the January 2026 Sew Sampler Box!!!    This month's box is just so happy making!!  The theme is Bows, Bubbles, & Blue Skies, and it has something new for me to try for the new year!!!  So exciting :)

First off, I was so excited for this Junior Layer Cake of Blueprint by Camille Roskelley!!!  I have been so in love with this line since it was shared back in early 2025!!!   I am so excited to sew with this line, but I am thinking I might need to make a small Sweater Weather quilt with it.   While the Buttons and Bows pattern is cute, I just think all of these Blues will match Sweater Weather so well!!!  And I have  been wanting to make a baby size ;)

And the notions for this month have me super excited to try something new!!!   I have never done Quilt As You Go (or at least, not that I can remember doing :)   So I am super excited to try out this Little Bubble Quilt as you Go Template and Pattern.   And don't you just love that Fat Quarter Shop includes the Silky Blend Batting and new Confetti Cotton Thread (which I am so excited to try, new thread is so fun!!)   to go with it.  Now I really have everything I need to try this new technique!!

And last but not least, we are on to block 10 of this Flowering QAL!!   For my blocks I am using the 50 Years of Moda!!!  I did have to grab a new low volume Background as I am out of the low volumes from the bundle, but it's all good.   Low Volumes all tend to play nice together ;)   And I can't believe, only 2 more blocks!!

And that is January Sew Sampler Box.

Thanks for popping in again.

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Cupid Box 2026 (with spoilers)

It's one of those super fun days!!!  Today I am opening my 2026 Cupid Box  from Fat Quarter Shop !! You all know that I just love these Limited Edition holiday boxes!!  And I was so very excited to open this Cupid Box.  We just started the remodel of our bathrooms and new sewing room (So Excited!!!) so it has been a little crazy busy and loud the last few days.  So ya, I decided it was time for a little bit of Quilty Love :)  Warning, spoilers to follow . . . If you want to see what's inside, keep reading, if not, stop here.

What an incredible Box of Valentine's Quilting Goodness!!  Doesn't all of that pink and red just make you want to swoon!!!  This Cupid Box has me so excited to sit and sew :)

I was so excited to find a Bundle of Sew In Love by Dani Mogstad.  Dani's prints are always so sweet, and what a fun idea to combine Sewing with Love (I mean perfect for all of us right!!)   I just might have to order the Sew In Love Panel that goes with this line as well so I can add it in my new sewing room.   I could do the Full Herts runner on one side, and the panel on the other and make it a reversible wall hanging . . .ohhh   so many ideas :)

And the notions in this Cupid Box are just so handy and of course, Pink and Red!!    How fun and super practical is this Tea Rose Seam Roller!!!  These are always so handy in classes when there is a long line at the ironing stations ;)    And This Cute Cuts 6 1/2" Ruler is not only my favorite size of ruler, but it is also a cute one, Double Bonus!!!   That leaves the Bohin Red Heart Pins that just make me smile, so adorable!!  They really did so great with the notions this time round ;)

So I am off to sew up some Cupid Box goodness to the sound of my new Sewing Room being framed ;)  Should be a fun day!!!

Thanks for popping in and Happy Quilting!!

Vice-Versa Quilt Along - Finished!!

I have had so much fun with this Vice-Versa Table Top Quilt Along hosted by my friends at Fat Quarter Shop!!! It has been the perfect small projects to start the new year with and a wonderful quilt along that was totally manageable week to week!!! And now I have two adorable baby quilts all ready for gifting!!

So I turned my Vice-Versa Table Topper kit into a 36" square baby quilt.  I just used the 5" charm squares as they were instead of trimming them down.  Isn't this jus the cutest star quilt!!!  I love how happy and bright it is!!  And the low volume secondary star is just so great, such a fun quilt!!

And when it came to my Vice-Versa Table Runner  kit, I also decided to make it a baby quilt!!  I have two leftover blocks from the table runner that will make some cute pot holders ;)   All I had to do was cut up my border fabric slightly, and it came together just perfect.   It Finishes at 48" square and will be so fun for a tummy time quilt with all of those fun low volumes peaking out between the prints.   I jsut love how it came together ;)

And I had just as much fun quilting them as well!!!  I went with a Wavy Orange Peel for the smaller quilt, because you know I can't pass up a pieced grid like that ;)   And on the larger baby quilt, I went with all over swirls.  Super fun, fast, and easy :)   And now they both have so much yummy texture ready to be cuddled up in!!

And those are my Vice-Versa Quilt Along Baby Quilts!!!    I am just thrilled about these finishes, they truly were the perfect start to the new year :)   And now I am curious,  did you quilt along and make your own Vice-Versa projects??  Comment below if you did, I would love to see them!!!

Thanks for popping in and sharing these finishes with me ;)

Stacked Squares in My Darling Deer!!

Today I am super excited to be sharing this beautiful new Stacked Squares quilt finish with you featuring the oh so adorable My Darling Deer Collection by Michal Marko for Poppie Cotton!! And can I say, I just love this quilt!!!  We find out soon if our first Grandchild will be a boy or girl, but I think this little baby quilt will work for either :)

The Stacked Squares quilt is such a fun one to make!!!   And it is perfect for fabric lines that have lots of beauitful low volumes, just like this My Darling Deer Collection.  I used Fat quarters and divided my prints into the deep dark purples and blues for the print chain, and then used all of the pretty white and pinks for the low volume background.  And then all you need is a backing and binding, so fun!!!

Stacked Squares it truly is a great beginner quilt!!   It goes together quick and is super fun to make.   Again, it is all about playing with those low volumes and making sure your print fabrics really contrast from the background :)    It is made with simple block piecing, and then rotating the blocks to create the stacked chain.

And it just comes together to make such a pretty finish!!!  Low Volume backgrounds just add so much to a quilt!!  I actually designed this quilt because my stash of Low Volume Fat Quarters was getting a little to big to fit in the bin anymore.  Ya know, we open that beautiful Fat Quarter Bundle use all of the pretty prints, and then stack up the Low Volumes for another project.   Well this is the project made just for them  ;)

When it came time to quilt this, I decided on an all over echoed Paisley design :)  I just love how flowy it is, and has a fun whimsical feel that matches the prints.   And of course, so much yummy texture is added to the quilt with all of that dense quilting!!!  I used a soft pink thread, and it blended perfectly ;)   Just so charming!!!

And  Stacked Squares has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. This is the baby size, but you can make all the way to a king size ;)  And it really is great for Beginners to Experts alike, it is just a super fun quilt to make!!  You can use Fat Quarters or really get to work on your Scrap Bins.  Either way, you will have a beautiful finish!

And that is my Stacked Squares Quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Stacked Squares Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see it! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #stackedsquaresquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Stacked Squares Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by in today!   And  thank you so much to my wonderful friends at Poppie Cotton for always creating such gorgeous fabrics for us to create with!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Vice-Versa Quilt Along - Week 3

I am just loving this Vice-Versa Table Top Quilt Along hosted by my friends at Fat Quarter Shop!!! It is such a fun, and manageable group of projects for right now!!!   This week, I turned my  Vice-Versa Table Topper kit into a quilt top!!!  I am debating adding a border of the LV print, or just leaving it 36" square.  We shall see by next week when I hope to share it all quilted and bound!!

And the Vice-Versa Table Runner  kit, is now 27 cute little blocks!!   Now just to sew those into a  5 x 5 Baby Quilt top and then some more quilting and binding!!!  It is going to be a super fun Vice-Versa week!!

Looking forward to finishing off this Quilt Along next Monday!!

Happy Quilting!

"Christmas" . . . I Mean, "New Year's" Letter!!

I always love being able to share our "Christmas Newsletter" each year.   This year's is coming at you a little late, but that is because of a big surprise!!!  So here it is . . .   (Oh, and just a sidenote, my husband always writes the newsletter, just in case you are wondering why the "tone" might be a little different than the blog :)

Dear Family and Friends

You might expect that the big news of the year is the Dodgers winning the World Series again, and I’ll admit it is pretty big news but we have actually had a few other things happen this year that actually overshadowed the Dodgers. One of which is the reason this letter is later than expected. Buckle up.

Spencer (Michelle) are our old newlyweds. On March 8, Spencer was sealed to Michelle Eisert in the Oquirrh Mountain temple. To say we are overjoyed would be a vast understatement. We love Michelle and love how well she fits in with the family. Spencer will finish up his undergraduate degree this next year and start applying to medical schools. Michelle is working (far more hours than I) down near Hurricane and supporting the family admirably. The other big news (and why the letter is late) is that Michelle is expecting. They told us a few weeks back, but didn’t make it more public until this weekend. Melissa and I are so excited to be grandparents.

Jessica (Treyson) are our new newlyweds. Jessi was sealed to Treyson Prince on September 20th in the Cedar City Temple. It was a wonderful day and I guess Trey fits in pretty well too. Jessi arrived home from Peru the day after Christmas last year and transitioned to service missionary in the St George Utah mission. It was through this missionary service that she met another service missionary, Elder Prince, ironically in a separate mission but serving in the Bishop’s storehouse in Cedar. Both Jessi and Trey were released from their missions in the early summer and began dating. Jessica is studying Psychology at SUU and Trey is studying something that will eventually get him to Physical Therapy school. It is wonderful that they live in Cedar and spend a fair amount of time freeloading around dinnertime.
Kristian began his missionary service in July and is currently serving in the South Africa Durban mission. He’s not one for writing letters so nobody who doesn’t talk with him weekly really knows how he is doing. He’s doing well. The missionary work in South Africa is thriving. It’s a little strange that a common p-day activity can include barbeques at the beach or a short trip to a Safari Park where they get to see 3 of the Big 5 African animals. We look forward to seeing him over messenger each week.

Kami is a Junior at Success Academy and Cedar High School. She started a job at Culver’s this year and seems to actually enjoy it. She gets along well with her coworkers so I guess that helps a lot. She was on the Iron Giants mountain biking team again this year and did well in her JVA division throughout the year.
Jocelyn is our last middle schooler as an 8th grader at Cedar Middle School. She spends most of her days at some friends’ house and we have to remind her to come home on occasion. She also was part of the Iron Giants mountain bike team and is looking forward to being a Freshman next year.
Melissa continues to quilt and teach and I’m doing my best to spend some time at the clinic. We have been blessed to travel a bit having taken trips to the Carribean, Germany and both coasts of Mexico this year.

I remember my grandfathers as two of the nicest, most caring, and wise men I have ever known. I assume that comes with being a grandfather. As such I reserve the right to excuse anything I may have done or said as pre grandfather years. Including anything I may have said regarding babies being miserable up until 18 months.

We love you all and wish you the best of blessings at this time and throughout this New Year.

Love, The Corrys

Did you catch the big surprise???

I am going to be a GRANDMA!!!!!

I am all the feels but mostly just so excited!!!  So ya, there is going to be some Happy Grandbaby Quilting in my future ;)
