And of course, I couldn't get through the book without adding a few more "to do's" to the list. First off, these fantastic All Seasons Pillows from the needle-turn section. They are so stinking cute and of course, some hand sewing practice would be vastly helpful to me, you know, the non-hand binding gal.
And then from the prepared-edge section this stunning counterbalance quilt. I think this is calling to be a new master bedspread. And I am so excited to try out some prepared-edge applique, I have never done that but Kevin's instructions seem to make it seem like a piece of cake. Here is hoping ;)
To see more fabulous reviews of this book, check out the official Book Tour. You can find all of the links at Kevin's blog here ;)
Not only was I happy to be able to review this fabulous book but Interweave has graciously offered to giveaway a copy of The Quilters Applique Workshop to one of my readers. Want to win this fabulous book?? Of course you do.
To enter for a chance to win simply leave a comment of your take on applique. It can be as simple as "love it", "never tried it", "excited to learn", or you can share some of your applique experiences. Whatever you like as long as it is about applique ;)
The giveaway will be open until Monday the 28th and I will announce a winner on Tuesday morning. Good Luck and have a Happy Quilting Day ;)
Would love to be better at it.
ReplyDeleteI love to hand turn applique. Those pillows are awesome.
ReplyDeleteI have experimented with several methods and find that the more I stitch (needle turn) the better I get but still have a long way to go. Recently I have been interested in the use of stabilizers and fusible interfacing's with applique. I think I need some reference points to go beyond my current skill level. Who ever wins the book will be thrilled I am sure and thank you in advance for hosting this give away! Love your work.
ReplyDeleteI have done a very small amount of applique and loved it. It would be great to win this book! Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the opportunity! I've done some needle turn, some prepared edge, and a wee bit of raw edge appliqué. I really enjoy all three, and I'm thrilled that there have been a few really good technique books on the subject recently. Can't wait to get my hands on this one! (Fingers crossed!)
ReplyDeleteHave done machine applique and a little needle turn, haven't tried raw edge, would love to have this great book!
ReplyDeletediannemitzel1@hotmail.com
Im kinda half and half about it. I dont mind raw edge, or funky fun applique. But i dont want to get into doing something that takes talented applique. I absolutely love that pillow, i would make that happily (and love all my mistakes.).
ReplyDeleteLove the look of it but never tried it.
ReplyDeleteI do love applique, and can't wait to see your techniques in the book. Anne
ReplyDeleteacbeier71@gmail.com
I love how applique opens up an entire realm of design possibilities that I wouldn't have with piecing along.
ReplyDeleteI do a little applique but, only machine applique ,
ReplyDeleteI would like to try a little hand turn edge under kind-- maybe a little portable project.
these projects are beautiful -- I think the pillows may be doable
I love applique and would love to learn some different ways of doing it.
ReplyDeleteI love how just a bit of applique can add a lot of interest to a pieced quilt. I have tried several different methods and think the best one to use depends on the project. I would love to improve my skills with the information in this book. Thanks for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteI love the results of appliqué, but I'm afraid of messing things up when I try. Maybe this book can help me start
ReplyDeletei love the look of applique but not the hand sewing. raw edge only for me. thanks for the giveaway.

ReplyDeleteI'm interested in learning different ways to applique. Thanks for the intro to this book! I've put it on my birthday list(May) so my family has no excuses to buy me pj's!
ReplyDeleteI adore applique and have tried all three techniques. I tend to stick with raw edge because, to me, it is the easiest but the other two look so sharp. Needle turn was easier than I expected but the prepared edge has to be my favorite for a finished look and ease combined. Those pillows are lovely!
ReplyDeleteApplique scares me, but I keep seeing projects that looks so pretty. Your review sounds encouraging.
ReplyDeletea wonderful book. thanks for a chance. I have not tried applique yet but it is on my to do list

ReplyDeleteI love applique. I'm working on a applique project now.
ReplyDeleteI particularly love sketch stitch applique -- no hand sewing and you don't have to kill yourself on accuracy -- a little sloppiness is actually the goal -- and it's adorable.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to learn the Prepared edge technique. Thanks for sharing the fun pictures of the projects now on your LIST! Hope I WIN!!!
ReplyDeleteRosemary B here
ReplyDeleteWell, this looks like a wonderful book. Wow.
Thank you so much for offering a book to a lucky winner
I never thought much about applique. It just looked "harrrrrd" and I was not sure I could be neat and tidy with stitching.
Last month we had a really nice girl come to our local quilt shop and show us all of her projects. I thought she was there to teach us, but she just spent the hour showing us every single quilt she made since she started sewing..... I was bummed, but she did have some lovely lovely (two recent years of her sewing journey) applique things she made. It was amazing and I think I got bit hard with curiosity and perhaps a push of eagerness to try it. I want to make some applique door banners for my mom and dad's retirement apartment. I think that could be a cool thing. Luckily they do not move until August, so I can finish up my pile of other sewing first. Then I want to make some quilted banners, with applique flowers, birds and other charming designs....
Boy oh boy, I would love to win this book.
Best wishes to all entrants.
Have a fun day Melissa.
Again, thanks loads for this "giveaway" of such a cool book
I have done a little appliqué and quite like it! I think it is relaxing and I love the ability to take projects on- the-go.

ReplyDeleteApplique. Scares the batting right out of me! Lol always afraid that I didn't do it right and the fabric being appliqué will start fraying. There are so many cute things to do with it. This book would be a great starting point. Might have to get it even if I don't win.
ReplyDeleteTried everything but prepared edge applique.....not sure of what it is? Looks like a great book.
ReplyDeleteI love applique but just don't have time (or find the time) to do much of it. I'm working on an autumn applique project that I hope I finish soon. Thanks for the giveaway!

ReplyDeleteI want to learn so this book would be perfect!
ReplyDeleteI have done a couple of appliques and plan to do more at some point.
ReplyDeleteApplique is so much fun! You can follow someone else's pattern or make up your own. I have made my own designs and followed patterns. I like both. I also do more raw edge than needle turn but I did make a needle turned hawaiian design for my sister. It was a pillow for her bed. It was fun but took a lot of concentration to turn the fabric as I was sewing it down. I am glad you do lots of different kinds of projects and share those with us. Thanks for your willingness to share. K-
ReplyDeleteI have never been successful at applique - would love to know more
ReplyDeleteI've done a little appliqué but could sure use some more instruction!

ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of applique. That being said ... I am working on a quilt right now with lots of applique. I tend to do the needle-turn by hand method as I don't like the look of the machine done on my quilts. Other peoples quilts seen to look great -- but I prefer the hand done on mine.

ReplyDeleteI've done some needle turn on big easy shapes. I could use some help with smaller, detailed pieces.
ReplyDelete10 years ago I was a NO applique gal. Now I love it. It tends to take some time to do the needle turn, but it is well worth the wait.
ReplyDeleteI have not tried much applique. This book could be helpful to me.
ReplyDeleteI would like to be better at applique.
ReplyDeleteI just completed a quilt yesterday, and appliqued the entire alphabet. It was my own design and I wasn't sure how it would turn out, but it came out GREAT. I might even make another one. Thanks for the chance to win such a beautiful book.

ReplyDeleteApplique adds a special touch to projects. I have done a small bit of applique and have other ideas saved in a "to make" binder.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy it, but have not done a lot. I'd like to do more, but only when I find the right project!
ReplyDeleteI have little experience with it, and scared of using it for washable projects, which is why I should face my fears, probably! Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI love the looks of applique but I have a lot of learning to do before I dare to try it again.
ReplyDeleteHave always admired applique and would love to try it! Thanks for the give away!
ReplyDeleteAs long as it is raw edge applique, I'm a huge fan! ;) I tried needle turn once, and I think I finally got the hang of it in the end, but raw edge applique is just so fast! I really should try something new, though.

ReplyDeleteI like applique and I should do more of it.
ReplyDelete
