ReplyDeleteGetting ready for a three week trip in our RV, so I've been planning camping food myself. I like to do tacos. Cook the meat ahead of time before leaving, then just reheat and set out the toppings.

ReplyDeleteS'mores! That's the only camping food I know!
ReplyDeleteI follow the FQS on Facebook and their blog via Feedly.
ReplyDeleteMy husband and son just returned early from a backpacking trip and had some leftover oatmeal mix they had made up all by themselves before they left. Quick oats, dry milk, craisins, dried apple bits, and cinnamon. Just add boiling water and let sit a couple of minutes. I just had some for breakfast and it was delicious! kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com
ReplyDeleteI follow Fat Quarter Shop on Facebook, get their newsletter, and follow their blog too--been doing all those for years. kthurn(at)bektel(dot)com

ReplyDeleteI find camp cooking somewhat stressful and one year I forgot an entire meal for us!!! Oops! Luckily I had packed extra food so we didn't starve😬 My favourite dish is breakfast with sausages, eggs, and. hash browns.... soooo 😋
ReplyDeleteLove S'Mores! Use hazelnut or almond and chocolate spread so you have a melty, gooey mess :)
ReplyDeleteNot a big camping fan, but I remember having pan-fried fish and it was sooooo good. It was fresh caught, but maybe you could do pan-fried fish sticks? With ketchup?
ReplyDeleteFor breakfast, we made blueberry muffins inside orange peels last year which was tasty.
ReplyDeleteChicken salad for lunch is easy and has more flavor than meat and cheese sandwiches.
Tin foil dinners are my favorite campfire food and each one is seasoned according to individual tastes!
For dessert, you can make s'mores bars in a 9by13 and then lightly toast starbursts over the fire instead.
I follow FQS blog on Feedly and on Instagram.
ReplyDeleteI'm not a happy camper. Not my thing, but watermelon and s'mores sound good. The messier the better!

ReplyDeleteI'm seconding or thirding the aluminum foil packet! Sorry about the new ideas... But those onions and potatoes with chicken and bacon cooked on top... Yum! I'm also partial to roasting corn in the fire.
ReplyDeleteSometimes, when we BBQ, I put some peach or nectarine slices and brown sugar in a foil packet and throw them on the grill. They come out warm and kinda caramelized, yummmmm. You can eat them out of the packet once they've cooled a bit. Also, I know ice cream isn't easy when camping, but they taste amazing with vanilla ice cream!

ReplyDeleteI've visited Utah in the summer--it's such an amazing state!!--but would you really cook or does it cool off in the evening? I think I'd go with Gorp, cereal, corn on the cob still in their leaves and tossed on a campfire grill, cut up veggies including tomatoes and cold cooked potatoes--little ones served whole with some salt are really good!--making egg salad or tuna salad together on site and having sandwiches--cheese and crackers--anything easy and cool :) What great fun for you and the girls :) Can you tell I love to camp!?
ReplyDeleteI follow FQS via bloglovin and on Facebook
ReplyDelete"camping" was via motorhome. I used to use english muffins and make mini pizzas with them - grill the muffins then add the sauce and toppings then pop under the broiler for a few - kids love them

Dessert wise, my family loves to make "pudgie pies" which use buttered bread and pie filling in a contraption that goes right in the fire. Have fun camping!! :)

ReplyDeleteWhile not a camper myself I remember my son's boy scout troop making peach cobbler in a cast iron dutch oven...that weighed a ton empty...lol! It was delicious! Also: a cardboard box was lined with foil, hot coals were put in the 4 corners, and a cake was baked in the middle of the box...yes...it really worked!
