I woke up this morning and decided I needed to start a new Leader and Ender project. I finished up my Scraptastic Stars blocks that were my Leaders and Enders last year, and haven't had a new project for almost a year. I have just been sewing Leaders and Enders from whatever project I was working on at the time. So I starting pulling from my sewing room trying to come up with an idea. And this is what I ended up with . . . what do you think???
So let me tell you how I arrived at this quilt :) First off, my scrap bins are totally overflowing. I through about using pre-cuts as I have a stash of those as well, but as soon as I saw how I have been having to stuff my scraps in just to get the drawers shut, I knew this new project had to be a scrappy one!!! And as soon as I think scrappy, I start thinking rainbow quilts as that is how I sort my scraps ;)
So with the fabric picked, next up was picking blocks. I was thinking simple squares, or a chain, when I noticed these
Quilt Block Foundation papers from It's Sew Emma. And they made me think of how I really need to practice some basic paper piecing as I am really not great at paper piecing. I have been wanting to work on it for some time but didn't want to pick out a totally overwhelming project, as a lot of paper piecing quilts are ;) So now with he blocks picked, I just needed to make a design ;)
And so I played around in my
EQ8 for a little bit and after some trial and error with 6" and 12" blocks, I settled on this layout. And I just love it!!! Of course, my blocks are going to be totally scrappy!! And I think I also may change out the print and white placement on some of the blocks to add even more variety. I am excited to get started on this ;)
I think I will have to do a little prep work of cutting some strips so this will work as a Leader and Ender project but I am excited to get going. I am going to be Scrap Busting, while gaining Paper Piecing Confidence, and also having a new Leader and Ender project, triple bonus!!! Can't wait to get stitching!!!
Love your scrap bin organization!(now where can I fit that into my sewing room??!!)
ReplyDeletePretty yummy, Melissa! How fortunate you are to have the space to be so organized!
ReplyDeletethat would be a very hard leader/ender for me - when I paper piece I need the needle centered and the stitch length at about 150. I would keep forgetting to reset my machine settings, leaving an opening for Jack the Ripper to get busy!
ReplyDeleteThat is going to be gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteThe minute I saw this I had one thought, oh I hope she has a pattern for it. I just can't get the hang of paper piecing and guess I really don't want to try anymore. My loss I guess. Can't wait to see the finish project.
ReplyDeleteSo fun! I have those foundation papers too, and was just looking at them last night, wanting to use them, but couldn't decide on what fabric to use. Hmmm....you have a good idea! :-) Hugs, H
