Let's talk about scraps . . . We all know if you make quilts . . . you are going to make Scraps!!! So what to do with them all. Well, I like to sort them by color, but then they just seem to languish in my scrap buckets. Step in Emily Bailey's Scrap Quilts Book!!! Every piece must go with this practical guide to quilt making by using even the tiniest pieces of scrap fabric from your stash. The book includes 15 patterns from full size quilts to smaller quick makes like totes. And has a great zero waste guide to patchwork and quilting so you can actually get to turning your scraps into beautiful finished makes!!
This is one of my favorites from the book!!! It is called the Good Night Irene quilt and uses crazy patch piecing to make small scraps into larger scraps, and then A Hexagon Cut (which you can use your AccuQuilt Die, so smart of Emily!!) to make this fun Scrappy Grandmother's Garden quilt!!! So on my list to make!!!
And since Emily is a wonderful friend, and it is a wonderful time for giving . . . Emily has shared 2 copies of her Scrap Quilts books for me to share with my Happy Quilting readers!!!
To enter for your chance to win a Scrap Quilts book just simply leave me a comment on how big is your scrap stash?? That's it, super simple ;) GIVEAWAY CLOSED
And the winners are . . . #56 Jo and #31 JKay Congrats, I have emailed you!!
Good Luck and Happy (Scrappy) Quilting!!

I have an Under-the-bed bin filledwith scraps
ReplyDeleteI HAVE BINS OF SCRAPS ASSORTED BY COLOR. I’M AFRAID TO COUNT THEM. ACTUALLY I HAVE FABRIC IN 3 ROOMS IN MY HOUSE. IT MULTIPLIES DESPITE MY EFFORTS TO REDUCE THE PILE.
ReplyDeleteScraps, scraps and more scraps. I have more scraps than a jumbo bag of M&M’s. Seems like every time I use up a scrap stash, it multiples. I guess this is the unexpected fun part of being a quilter. I recently used scraps and orphan blocks to make adult bibs for Hospice. They were so cute and practical too.
ReplyDelete🌞😁
I have a couple of sets of plastic drawers that I have sorted by color and squares/strips, along with a few 12x12 ArtBin boxes with bigger scraps. Looking forward to using more of them this year!
ReplyDeletePlastic bin for each color, plus 2 boxes labeled "large chunks". Scraps everywhere!
ReplyDelete7 bins full and counting. 🫣 Lol!
ReplyDeleteI use 10 diaper boxes from 20 years ago. They are each labeled with a color.
ReplyDeleteMy tiny scraps are sorted dark, medium and light in three boxes. My larger scraps are sorted by color in bins. Overall, I probably have 10 bins of scrappy fabric, about 15% of my total fabric storage, as I also sew clothes.
ReplyDeleteI have 4 large totes full of scraps (anything smaller than a fat quarter). Yikes!
ReplyDeleteI have about 5 4-drawer stacks sorted by color or shape! too many...Pamela

ReplyDeleteLet's see, I have two large bins for strings, many containers by color for fat quarters and smaller, bins of strips and squares by size and then random bags of crumbs. And then there's the containers that need to be organized! I'm definitely scrap happy, lol!
ReplyDeleteLove that scrap quilt- so reminds me of being young and my Grandma making hexagons! Scraps- 🎵I have had a few, but then again 🎶
ReplyDeleteAbove was my comment🙄

ReplyDeleteHow much is too much? I might qualify!
ReplyDeleteScraps are cut into 2.5 x 2.5 or 2.5 x 5. Bigger pieces are kept with the FQs
ReplyDeleteI have several plastic drawers of scraps!
ReplyDeleteToo much, I'm starting to feel overwhelmed.
ReplyDeleteI have two whole rooms full of scraps! I need to use them!!! ❤️
ReplyDeleteI don't have space for much of a collection. I have everything in bins and bags under the left side of my desk. It's still a lot for me!
ReplyDeleteScrappy scraps fit into one shoebox, that’s amazing to me. Larger scraps I have contained in a few Art Bin satchels awaiting the perfect scrappy quilts. Thank you for the inspiration!

I can look in any direction in my sewing room and see scraps. It is beyond counting. The book looks right up my alley. Thank you for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteWow. My scraps are over flowing. I have them stored into 55ltr plastic tubs and I have many of them. I have been using scraps for years to make my quilts but they never seem to get any less. At least I have plenty to go on with. I just need some refreshing ideas. Love the idea of the crumb hexagons.
ReplyDeleteMy scraps have escaped their bins. I need to get some bigger bins. ,😆
ReplyDeleteIf I dumped out my dozen boxes and drawers of scraps, they would probably fit into a very large trash bag. But, trash they are NOT! My scraps are precious and most of my projects are made from those scraps! duchick at gmail dot com
ReplyDeleteI have plastic see through containers separated by color for my scraps. I need to make something with them- they are starting to overrun my sewing room 😉
ReplyDeleteI have scraps but they aren’t out of control. I’d love to be inspired to use more of them.
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly have a LOT of scraps! But I have found that the more you try to use them up, the more they multiply!!!
ReplyDeleteI have about 10 small plastic totes sorted by color, plus 2 sets of plastic drawers of strips in various widths. Even though I’ve made several quilts from them, they never seem to go down! I would love more ideas for using them!
ReplyDeleteenough to make a LOT of quilts. Scrappy has always been my favorite. That quilt on the cover is beautiful!!
ReplyDeleteI’m overwhelmed , I was going to start the first of the year with a better system of organizing them it’s out of control
ReplyDeleteI have a large scrap stash that needs some love! I could really use this book, thank you for a chance to win a copy. darlsc@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI have quite a few 2 gallon ziploc bags full of colored scraps, one for each color, then I have those 12x12x12 baskets full of ribbons that I get off jelly rolls and fat quarter bundles and salvages. So bunches of scraps! cathykilliany at gmail dot com

They accumulate to the point, I don't have any room on my large table to cut and layout blocks. I have mine sorted by size. Just have such a hard thing to throw them out. Connie germanconnie@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteMy scrap drawers are overflowing! I have them sorted by color, and really need to use them.
ReplyDeleteI have an entire rolling cart overflowing with scraps! They are so pretty though I can’t bear to throw even the small
ReplyDeletePieces away!
My scraps fight with my stash for space in my sewing room!
ReplyDeleteI’ve got a box or 2 (…) of scraps and would love to tackle them!
ReplyDeleteIt’s amazing how they multiply when you aren’t looking… thank you and happy New Year!
I have made lots of scrap quilts, just love them. Strangely, I still have gazillions of scraps- they appear to multiply faster than I can sew them, LOL. Sewandsew@hvc.rr.com
ReplyDeleteI have several baskets of scraps and could use inspiration on ways to use them in my quilts. Thank you for the giveaway! j.m.brun@ outlook.com
ReplyDeleteDoes a dump truck full of scraps count?
ReplyDeleteI’m made a few scrap quilts and love new inspiration!! Thank you for the chance to win!
ReplyDeleteOh gosh. I have several plastic bins with 2.5” strips and three large tubs of scraps smaller than a fat quarter that are semi-hidden from view because I don’t know what to do with them.
ReplyDeleteVarious scraps are in my bathroom shelves, under the bed in containers, in my sewing room closet and under a sewing room table in containers.
ReplyDeleteI have scraps but not a lot of them - try to use them so they do not over run my sewing room.
ReplyDeleteMy scraps are mostly stored by project in zip bags or project bins, so they coordinate. Not really sure just how much there is. I’m actually working on my first scrap project now - a large patchwork bow from Christmas scraps.
ReplyDeleteWould be great to use up more.
My scraps are organized in color groups in plastic shoe boxes that fill up a small bookcase. Some other scraps that haven’t made it that far are in a container. You can never have too much scrap fabric!
ReplyDeleteRita I have several full boxes of scraps and would really like to use them.
ReplyDeleteTotally out of control! I could probably make good use of this book.
ReplyDeleteI have several totes sorted by color. But I have been working on 2 different scrap quilts, so I am making a dent in them.
ReplyDeleteI have an extra large (40 gallon?) tub that is overflowing with scraps. I try to cut them in to usable sizes but get stuck with the thought of - but what if I need the bigger size? :)
ReplyDeleteI have a huge scrap collection. I once bought 4 large tubs of scraps from another quilter at $5 each. I still have those plus a collection of zip loc bags from 1 1/2 inch size to 6 1/2 inch size.
ReplyDeleteBins and bags galore..finished a service mission, and NOW I'll have some extra time to tackle that project.
ReplyDeleteI donated 2 large tubs of scraps last year to a school art dept . It was perfect timing as they were teaching the students to make small quilts. I was so happy to do this because there is never a shortage of scraps. I also have fabric in 3 bedrooms and in the attic. I love reading the comments !
ReplyDeleteI have a scrap problem but I try to keep on top of it as I don't have much storage room. I love making scrappy quilts and this helps to keep my scraps to a manageable amount.
ReplyDeleteI have two dressers with the drawers full of scraps.
ReplyDeleteMore scraps than I may not be able to use unless someone or something comes to my rescue. Help. 3 bedrooms, the basement and the garage. Thread1956@yahoo.com
ReplyDeleteTerri
For just the scraps FQ or less, I have 20 of those plastic shoe box containers sorted by colour. I really need to start USING them! Thanks for the chance & happy new year!
ReplyDeletebasaran (dot) family (at) rogers (dot) com
I have 6 plastic 3-drawer units for storing scraps smaller than a FQ by color. I cut smaller scraps into 1 1/2, 2, and 2 1/2 squares/strips, which are kept in the plastic shoebox bins. Neutrals have their own section When a drawer or bin gets full, I find a pattern and make a quilt. The worst thing you could do is get a bigger box. 😉
ReplyDeleteI have many scrap boxes sorted by color! Love the hexagon flower idea.
ReplyDeleteI didn’t realise just how much scrap I had until I did a sort out today. Found to my horror that I have three drawers full not counting the boxes of 5ins squares and the 2.5 in’s strips.
ReplyDeleteHorrrows! Too many to count. Some trimmed to sizes, more just stuffed into bins according to color. Even a cupboard of HST's boxed according to size. I do use them but not enough. Love Emily, good for her.
ReplyDeleteI have shoebox sized boxes by color for scraps(not even thinking to the large bins of actual yardage!!). Fat quarters that I no longer love go to my Piecemaker charity quilting group so I try to keep the amount down!
ReplyDeleteI make a lot of quilts so I have an horrendous amount of scraps. I could stop yardage quilting and just use scraps and be busy the rest of my life. That was a confession!
ReplyDeleteI love scrappy quilts, so my scrap stash is much larger than my stash of new fabrics! Thanks for the chance to win--looks like a great book! ktyoung1(at)gmail(dot)com
ReplyDeleteIt seems as if my scraps never diminish no matter how many scrap quilts I make.
ReplyDeleteI have probably 3xs as much fabric as my local quilt store, so I also have a good selection of scraps. To pull for a new quilt, I go to my scrap section first, then find background from the larger pieces. I have been more creative with my quilts since shopping at home.
ReplyDeleteToo much to count ... and getting larger every time I sew!
ReplyDeleteMy scraps have scraps! I sew with scraps, and they multiply!
ReplyDeleteHmmm….how does one quantify their scraps? By the pound? By the yard? By the totes? I have 2 bookshelf units of scraps sorted by color, theme, and/or genre (holiday, 1800s, 30s, etc), and stored in 15 large cubes. Oh, and my scrap selveges are sorted this way, too - in zipper bags tucked into the appropriate cube! Crazy? Maybe! 🤔
