I'm in Moab!!

So this post is coming to you from the beautiful Moab Utah!!!  I am here at the Moab Sew and Stitch Retreat teaching 3 classes and enjoying lots of Happy Quilting!!  I am teaching Desert Rose, Primrose and Proper, and Sweater Weather.

The first class I taught was this morning, the Desert Rose quilt.   This is such a fun class to teach, especially for those that have never tried No-Waste Flying Geese.  We had a great time in class and everyone did such a fantastic job!!  Right after class, the entire group gathered together for a picture.  How fun right!!!  It is going to be such a fun filled weekend of Quilty Goodness!!

I have two more classes tomorrow and Saturday Morning and am looking forward to both.  But the other fun thing about Moab . . . when I am not teaching, I am sewing!!!  Each afternoon of the retreat, I get to sit and sew aways.  Barbara and I are having so much fun.   And guess what,   I brought a few older WIP to work on.  Including this beautiful  Piece and Quilt Sampler from 2024.  I finished all the blocks during the QAL and then didn't manage to get them sewn together into the quilt top.  I am excited to be sharing this finish soon!!

And another huge bonus of Moab . . .  we are right next to Arches National Park!!  My husband joined me on the trip, so he is getting in a lot of Off Roading with his Bronco, Mountain Biking, and Hiking while I am in class, and then I get to enjoy some nice walks in Arches in the evening!   Just so perfect!!

I hope you are having just as much fun getting to quilt  as I am ;)
Until next time . . . Happy Quilting!

Vice-Versa Quilt Along - Week 2

I am just having so much fun with this Vice-Versa Table Top Quilt Along hosted by my friends at Fat Quarter Shop!!! From last week, I was using my  Vice-Versa Table Topper kit, to make 5" HST's ;)  I got those all done and then stitched those and my remaining 5" Print and Low Volume squares into Four Patch Units to make up the Star Topper Baby Quilt ;)   I divided the blocks into groups of 4 Corner Four Patches, 8 Side Four Patches, and 4 Center Four Patches.  Now just to sew these 16 Units together and I will have a quilt top!!

And with the Vice-Versa Table Runner  that I am also turning into a 5 x 5 Baby Quilt, I managed to finish up all of those adorable little Flying Geese, which really should be called Goslings when they are this small.   I then sewed all of those units into pretty Stars!!   Now just to piece the stars into the center of the blocks . . .that is my Week 3 plan ;)

So do you want to join in this Quilt Along fun?? It really isn't to late to join in:)  Grab your Vice-Versa Pattern (which is 3 patterns in one book, great deal!!)  and let's get making our first finishes of 2026!!!

Looking forward to working on this throughout the week and sharing more of my progress next Monday!!

Happy Quilting!

December Sew Sampler Box!!

So this post is coming a little late, but we all know how December goes :)  So here is my December   Sew Sampler Box!!!    This month's box  is perfect for the new year!!  The theme is Starlit Homecoming, which is just perfect as our quilt guild has volunteered to make "Americana" quilts for each baby born in Cedar City in 2026 to Celebrate America 250!!

So ya, with the need to really get my Americana sewing on, I was so excited to see this Fat Quarter Bundle of Allison Harris' new Front Porch fabrics!!  These will make such perfect Americana baby quilts!!!   And I am so holding on to the Star-Light quilt pattern because, just so super cute!!!

And the notions for this month are so exciting!!!   I have always loved my Alphabitties, but as most people commented, they wish there was a way to attach them to their fabric.   Well, in comes AlphaClippies!!!!   Seriously, same great labeling as Alphabitties, but now, AlphaClippies  clip to the fabric.  Perfect!!!!   I might have already gotten an extra set ;)   And I always love Schmetz Needles, the best!!

And last but not least, we are on to block 9 of this Flowering QAL!!  Which honestly, is why this post is coming so late.  It has just been hard to get to my sewing machine this last week.  For my blocks I am using the 50 Years of Moda!!!  And because most of the prints are just a fat eighth, I had to reassign some of the colors in the block, which led to slightly changing the pattern look, (I alternated the side blocks sashing so they make points) But I just love the way it turned out.  I can't wait to see this all come together.  Only 3 more blocks!!

And that is December Sew Sampler Box.  Looking forward to January's box!!
Thanks for popping in again.

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

GO! Baby in Bloom Quilt and Free Pattern!!!

I am so excited to share a new finish today!!! Isn't it just so fun!!!   When my good friends at AccuQuilt asked if I wanted to make a project using their new GO! Nosegay Die, I instantly thought of pairing it with the Magnolia Bud Die, I mean, they just give the vibe of a flower stand together ;)  And I came up with this Baby in Bloom Quilt!    And there is a free PDF Pattern that you can download right here :)

For this one I used lots of Riley Blake Basics to create the soft baby girl vibe.  I really wanted to just play with the shades of color to highlight the leaves and flowers.   And I just love how it came together!!  Adding the pop of Yellow for the flower bud centers just really added to the concept of both dies, really bringing those flowers that extra pop.

The Baby In Bloom Quilt  puts the GO! Nosegay Die on point, so your bouquet is standing up pretty and tall.   Then it uses 4 of the Magnolia Bud Die blocks together to create the second bursting floral block.  And I just loved how they really frame up the bouquet blocks as well ;)     The Baby In Bloom Quilt finishes at 47" x 47" so it is a great large baby size quilt that is perfect for decor above the crib, or some wonderful tunny time on the floor.

And I just love that using the AccuQuilt system for cutting makes all of these crazy shapes so easy to cut and piece.  And I just love all of the clipped corners for all of the diamond shapes, so easy for getting perfect piecing even with weird angles.  Below is a list of the dies I used to make this Baby In Bloom Quilt, see which ones you already have in your die library and maybe add a few more ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I wanted to add to that flower market feel and I figured a lovely all over loose feather design would give the feel of the vines of leaves ;)  It is such a fun design to quilt as well and is so fun and fast to do ;)  It really is a favorite of mine and adds so much yummy texture to the quilt!!  And of course, I used my favorite 402 Pearl for the win!!

And that is my Baby In Bloom Quilt.   I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   Isn't this picture AccuQuilt took of it just so great!!!  I love seeing it styled in a home setting.    And if you want to make your own, you can download the free PDF Baby In Bloom Quilt Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your Baby In Bloom Quilts!!

Oh, and fun little side note . . . you can see Pam and Erica share this quilt on the Nosegay Trunk Show here at 2:03 minutes in  (just click on the second video on the left) It is just so fun to see your projects loved so much, just makes me smile.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Vice-Veras Quilt Along - Week 1

It's week 1 of the Vice-Versa Table Top Quilt Along hosted by my friends at Fat Quarter Shop!!!  And you know, I couldn't just make a table topper . . .  So I am using the  Vice-Versa Table Topper Kit  as well as the Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit  and will be making 2 projects ;)    First off, was cutting!!!  And you all know how I like to change things up . . . so I decided to make my Vice-Versa Table Topper into a Vice-Versa Baby Quilt ;)   So basically, I am using the charm squares as is to make the project finish at 36" square.  So the only cutting I needed to do for that was the binding :)   For the Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit there was quite a lot of cutting, but it went quick enough.

And I jumped right in with the first steps for the piecing!!!  So with the  Vice-Versa Table Topper kit, I stitched my Stitch and Flip seams down the center of the 5" squares, and then added a bonus Seam 1/2" so that I could get some bonus HST's  (which I could totally make a table topper from, so fun!!)

For the Vice-Versa Table Runner  I started to piece all of the No Waste Flying Geese.  This is my favorite way to make Flying Geese so I am super excited the pattern was written for this technique.   I have all my little geese ready to be cut in half so I can move on to the next step 2 of No Waste Flying Geese.  So much fun!!!   And while cutting this all out, I realized, I don't have a lot of need for a Table Runner, but I so need a lot of baby quilts . . . so I am pretty sure my Vice-Versa Table Runner Kit is also going to finish as a 5 x 5 block Vice Versa Baby Quilt, with 2 extra blocks for the backing :)

So do you want to join in this Quilt Along fun??  It's the perfect time to join in :)  Grab your Vice-Versa Pattern (which is 3 patterns in one book, great deal!!)  and let's get making our first finishes of 2026!!!

Looking forward to working on this throughout the week and sharing more of my progress next Monday!!

Happy Quilting!
