  2. Sidewalks. I know they're not too modern but this is the first house I've lived in that has side walks. I love to walk, so now I don't have to get out of the way for oncoming traffic. It also means anything I can drag to the sidewalk,the city takes it away! To me, that is an awesome convenience!

  7. Hot water. We lived in China during the school year 2012-13 while we taught English to graduate students through the BYU China Teachers program. We lived in an apartment provided for us that would be best described as low class housing in the US. We had no hot water in the kitchen. In the bathroom, hot water was provided two hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. So, no sleeping in on Saturday and no staying up late and getting a hot/warm shower. Boiling water to wash dishes was cumbersome, to say the least. I still remember to thank Heavenly Father for hot water!

  15. I couldn't live without my Van, my dogs and I go everywhere in it.
    I would say my soft crates but not sure anyone would know what I am talking about, they are light and portable and a nice containment for my dogs at the agility trials-old crates where metal and HEAVY.

  42. Living in the deep south, there are days when you walk out the door, your makeup runs, your clothes stick to you and no matter what you do to your hair, it turns into a frizzy puff. I absolutely could not live without AIR CONDITIONING.

  115. I would find it hard to live without airconditioning, at least where live now. After suffering a brain injury 22 years ago, I have severe heat intolerance and get migraine headaches if I get very hot. Here in the hot and humid south, it's very hard to make it in the summer for me, even with a/c.

  127. Love that bundle! As for modern convenience, so many to choose from but I'm going to have to say washing machine. As it is, I feel like I do 7,000 loads a week. I don't want to think about how I would clean clothes or the time it would take without my Maytag.

  139. Every winter, when we have power outages, I am reminded that I l-o-v-e electricity. I would have a very hard time living without that. Being able to turn on lights is so comforting, to begin with.

  143. I really like the Modernist fabric that is being given away. The colors are great. Checking out the Fabric Please site, it is nice that they have home decor fabric as well since patterns for some bags call for home decor or duck. Nice to be able to coordinate right there on one site.

  158. Hmm... clothes washer. I've always been intrigued by the hand crank ones, but unless I'm on an island with the Professor and Maryanne, I'm not going to have one like that.... besides, the Professor will make one hooked up to a bike for the island :)
