Today I am thrilled to be sharing my newest quilt finish!! You all know how I love to make quilts for our Family Cabin (see some here, and here, and here) Well when I saw the new Only You Fabric Collection for Riley Blake Designs I just knew that it would be perfect for a cabin quilt!! And since I have made quilts for all of the queen size beds, it's time to start making twin size quilts for the bunk beds!! And the Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt was the perfect fit!!!
I mean, how can you not love Smokey Bear!! (and randomly enough, it wasn’t until I was making this quilt that I realized his name is Smokey Bear and not Smokey “the” Bear ) I love the beautiful earthy colors of this line and the prints are just so fun. It’s just perfect for the “out in the wild” kids to come in from a day of play and snuggle up in.
And while this might look a little crazy, it truly is a great beginner quilt with basic quilting techniques. You are making a “Single Irish Chain” quilt, but with a twist. All of the “chain pieces” are different sizes. And the fun thing is, the random layout of the blocks means no two quilts will look alike. Your quilt will be your own original Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt.
And when it came time to quilt mine, I opted for all over meander. I love how this gives the look of a twisting path weaving through the woods, just perfect for our Only You quilt! And I just love how my favorite 402 So Fine blends on all of those mountain prints!! So great.
And like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, the the nice thing is, the Dizzy Days Irish Chain Pattern has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. As I mentioned, this is the twin size for a bunk bed, but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a king size! And it is Layer Cake/10" Pre-Cut Friendly as well as a great Scrappy Friendly pattern!!! Cause ya know, we all need to do some scrap busting!! I already plan to make it again in scrappy reds and greens for a Christmas quilt :)
And that is my Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt. featuring the Only You Fabric Collection ! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt.!!! And if you do, I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags #happyquiltingmc and #dizzydaysirishchainquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can’t wait to see your Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilts!!
Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me!! Now I just need a little more snow to melt so we can get it up to the cabin ;)
I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
A quilt for the cabin in this pattern is great. The movement of the pieces creates so much interest. Just placed my order for the pattern and am looking forward to creating several quilts for family, friends, Hospice and the newborns at our local hospital. Thank you again for inspiration and a delightful pattern.
ReplyDeleteI love this one, Melissa. I hope to make one some day soon. With my scraps I could make a hundred probably
