Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along!!!

It's almost the new year, and that means a whole bunch of new Quilt Alongs!!!  And January 13th is the start of the Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along and I can't wait!!!  (literally, you will see by the sneak peek that I didn't wait ;)

I have been saying for sometime that I need to practice my paper piecing skills.   I always seem to underestimate the angles and cut my fabric to small.   So, when I was asked about joining in this quilt along, I figured it would be the perfect practice will all of those lovely angles, and because it has deadlines, it will actually get done!!!

The Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along combines both the 8" Vintage Sunburst Paper Piecing pads as well as the 12" Paper Piecing Pads!!!  Doesn't it just make the cutest design when the two are put together!!!  The quilt will finish at 64" x 88" so it will be a nice large throw size when complete.   The free pattern for this Quilt Along can be found right here ;)

And you knew, my version was going to be happy and bright!!!!  I decided to use Blossom Basics, and I have separated the prints into cool and warm colors.   I am going to use the cool colors to make the big blocks, and the warm colors to make the small blocks.    And I was super happy to be able to use up all of the yardage leftover white on white prints that I have from the backgrounds of other quilts.   What a great way to use up all of those pieces that are to small to use for another background ;)

And like I said, I couldn't wait.   Honestly, I wanted to check that all of the pieces I cut above would work.  (and ya, I could have made them a littler larger, but they will keep me focused in piecing just to perfection :)   And as you can see from the sneak peek, I am also adding a warm colored stitch and flip on the big blocks so that I will have little diamonds in the corners.  So cute!!

And after I had made my practice blocks, I couldn't handle adding all of the cut off scraps to my scrap bins (they are already overflowing.  So I decided to just improv piece them together.  I just love how happy that scrap is now.   I plan to do this for each set of blocks and we will see what it becomes when I am done with the quilt ;)

So do you want to work on your paper piecing skills as well??  Pop over the the Vintage Sunburst Quilt Along page to get all of the details!!!  I am so super excited for this project ;)

    1. The fabric requirements are on the pattern that is linked above ;) They call for 12 yards background and 42 print fat quarters. That seems like a lot to me, but paper piecing does have a lot of waste. Sorry, that isn't much help. I wish I could figure it more accurately.
