Merry Christmas from our Family to Yours!!!

Each year, we write an annual Christmas Letter to send out with our Christmas Cards.  I thought it would be fun to share it here with all of you, my amazing Quilting Friends :)

 Dear Family and Friends,

            Obviously the big news of the year is that the Dodgers won the World Series.  All else seems to pale in comparison but I’ll do my best to update you on some of the other things that have happened this past year.

            Spencer is halfway through his senior year of high school.  While he will graduate from Cedar High he is definitely a Success Academy student.  He spends his time studying, and working at Culver’s with quite a bit of obsession for Magic the Gathering taking up all his free time.  He’s looking forward to graduating with his associates’ degree from SUU in the spring followed by a mission.  He’s hoping to get going on his papers within the next month or so.

            Jessica, also a student at Success Academy (sophomore), continues to be the strongest Dodger supporter in the family (next to yours truly of course).  We spent many nights of the shortened season watching games together and though we weren’t able to travel to Dodger Stadium this year she already has plans to watch the world champions play in person next year. Jessi suffered through a few leg injuries in Cross Country for the last few years, and was unable to finish her season for the second year.  It was rough, but she made the best of it and hopefully we can put those injuries behind us as she continues to grow.

            Kristian is in the middle of his 8th grade year at Cedar Middle. He has been riding with the Iron Giants mountain bike team for the past two seasons. Much to the pleasure of his father, he loves it. Like Spencer he has a fascination for Magic the Gathering that I just don’t understand.  He is looking forward to starting high school next year. Due to his mountain biking habit he will be my first child to not run cross country in the summer though with Grandpa retiring I’m not sure anyone will notice.

            Kamryn moved from the elementary to the middle school this year with her starting 6th grade. She seems to be a little bit of all her older siblings with a little bit of mountain biking, Magic and Dodgers mixed together.  She has also enjoyed learning the flute in band this year and taking piano lessons from her aunt.  She has worked very hard in her studies and is beginning to enjoy reading.  

            Jocelyn is still very much the baby of the family. We don’t even try to hide it.  This year on her birthday she asked her teacher if she got a crown at school. Upon learning that they don’t do that in 3rd grade she made her own crown and proceeded to wear it all day. Josie sings all day long.  She doesn’t even seem to know that she is singing at times.  If the house is quiet you know Josie isn’t home. We try not to spoil her but she gets away with a lot, but in the struggle between parents and children the other kids seem to be able to use that to their advantage so it all seems to work out.

            Melissa continues to be as busy as ever with her quilting. She continues to design quilts and even dabbled in creating her own fabric this year. (Edit - If you are still reading, I will share more of this soon :)    She has been serving as the young women’s president for the past few years and loves being with the youth of the ward. She is certainly the glue that keeps us together as is evidenced by the chaos that ensues when she goes off to teach as some quilting retreat (though that hasn’t happened as much during the pandemic).

            Not too much has changed for me except that everything has changed since the Dodgers won the World Series.  Every day starts with birds singing, the sun shining and all is right in the world. It’s a good life.

            We wish you all the best as this year comes to a close. We are grateful for this time of year to reflect on the Savior and his life.

Charming Baby Quilts Remix - Ring Around the Rosie

 I am squeaking one more Charming Baby Remix before Christmas!!!  This is quilt 8 of my Charming Baby Quilts Remix's and I am so excited to share it.      And here it is . . . the Ring Around the Rosie Remix quilt!!!!   Isn't it just so fun and happy!!!! 

Ohh, I just love big quilts!!!!  Don't they just make you want to curl up and snuggle down into them ;)     I remixed the original design by simply making it 4 times and that made it King Size finishing at 109" x 109".   Oh, and I also added a dark background.   I love that Navy, it just makes all of those wonderful saturated colors just pop!!!   (Pattern Adjustment's here)  

And speaking of the original, here is my Ring Around the Rosie quilt from Charming Baby Quilts.   This is such a great baby quilt and it goes together super fast so it is perfect for a quick gift.   Whichever size you decide to make, it is truly a fun quilt to make!!!!

For this Ring Around the Rosie remix, I used Sugarhouse Park fabrics by Amy Smart for Riley Blake Designs!!!  You will need 11 Charm Packs, but if you don't want to buy that many charm squares, you can always cut 5" squares from Fat Quarters.   I used a Confetti Cotton Navy solid Background and I just love it in this quilt!!!   It just sings :)  

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided I on all over wavy arch.    This quilt is perfect for this design as the squares are a wonderful guide for the whole quilt.   And doesn't it just add such wonderful movement.   I like the wavy arches over regular arches gives it more of a flowy feel, and you don't have to worry about your arches being perfect either ;)  

And I am just so excited to have this one done because it is going on my bed!!!   I have wanted to add these cheery colors in my room for a while now, and I can't wait ;)   And, the navy I think will help to hide some of the build up from all of my kiddo's and sweetheart constantly laying on the quilt.  (I tried to make a rule to pull the quilt down before you lay down, but it was just cumbersome, besides, quilts are made to be used and can be washed :)

Charming Baby Quilts Remix - Color in the Lines

 Okay, it's Saturday and not Friday, but I still have another Charming Baby Remix!!!  This is quilt 7 of my Charming Baby Quilts Remix's and I am so excited to share it.  Only 3 more to go, well see if I make it by the end of the year!!!!   And here it is . . . the Color in the Lines Remix quilt!!!!

Ohh, I just love Scrappy Goodness!!!!  This is such a wonderful way to bust all of those left over charm squares you have or if you cut your scraps into 5" squares you can just go through that pile ;)   I remixed the original design by simply adding more blocks and lengthening the sashing to make it a large lap quilt or twin size and of course, I added a dark background.  I just love the way the rainbow pops now ;) This Color in the Lines remix quilt finishes at 72" x 85 1/2".        (Pattern Adjustment's here)  

And speaking of the original, here is my Color in the Lines quilt from Charming Baby Quilts.   This is such a great baby quilt and it goes together super fast so it is perfect for a quick gift.   This quilt is just so fun and fast to make in whatever size!!!

For this Color in the Lines remix, I used scraps and lots of them!!!  You will need 4 Charm Packs if you prefer to not go scrappy, cut I just loved using up all my leftover 5" squares.   And I used a Charcoal solid Background which just makes all of those colors pop!!!   And the binding is scrappy leftover as well, how fun is that.  I keep all my binding scraps for projects just like this.   And I just love it!!!  

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided I on all over loop de loops in a super fun Rainbow thread!!!  I really liked the idea of keeping this one simple as the design is so very simple and I think the rainbow thread just ties all of that scrappy goodness together.   And my oh my, this was a super fast design to quilt :)

I love how the quilting isn't quite as dense for this particular design.   While it still adds lots of movement and great texture, it will also still be nice and snuggly.  Double bonus!!!

Christmas Cheer with Quilting Books!!!
