Quilty Friends Winter Retreat!!

I am just so happy that I got to teach again!!  The Quilty Friends Retreat was just amazing!!!  I had so much fun getting to hang out with quilty friends again :)    Barbara and I just enjoyed every minute of it.   And I know, not everyone is able to gather again, and I am sorry.   We had to follow quite a lot of guidelines in order to be allowed to meet.   Masks, Social Distancing, and lots and lots of Sanitation.   You were allowed to take off (if you desired) your masks at your designated socially distanced sewing space, and that was nice.   But we did miss a lot of friends as in order to maintain that social distancing, the attendees of the retreat was cut in half.   But all in all, so amazing, and so glad everyone worked together so that we could meet and sew!!!

I taught 3 classes at the retreat.   The first class I taught was my Wishes Pattern!!   This was my first time teaching this new pattern and everyone did such a great job!!!   I just loved seeing everyone's blocks come together and the class was super fun as there are lots of technique in this block including no waste Lattice Blocks that I just love ;)    We had some fun background fabrics as well, that are so going to pop!!

The second class I taught was another Wishes Class!!   Yup, the first one filled up so fast, I got to teach a second class of it.   And again, just so fun!!!  Everyone in class just did amazing and I loved seeing all the variety of fabrics.  You know I leave every class wanting to remake the quilt in another 5 fabric variations :)
And can you believe it . . . we even had a quilt top finish before the end of retreat!!!  How adorable is this baby size Wishes Quilt, so precious.   And can you believe it, this is the third quilt she has made, as in, total beginner.  (I never would have guessed that in class, she was so great!!)    So amazing!!!

The next day I taught my  Scraptastic Stars  class.   And oh my, was this a super fun class!!!   I always love playing with scraps and so to get to teach an all scrappy class was just so much fun!!!  I tried to convince my class that they could each give me there block and I would have a quilt already, the decided to hand on to their blocks, tee hee hee.     I just loved seeing each of these blocks come together in all of their scrappy goodness.   (And yes, we did note two of the chains were faced the wrong direction and got them fixed before the end of class ;)

And my favorite part of this class . . .  We did a Square Swap!!!   I brought lots and lots of 2 1/2" squares, lots and lots of scraps along with my AccuQuilt GO! and 2 1/2" square die for easy cutting, and it was just scrappy awesomeness.  Others from class brought extra squares as well and it was so fun to see everyone sorting through the piles of scraps looking for just the right colors for their blocks.   I am so doing this with every Scraptastic Stars Class, and how cool will it be when the squares from one class are used in another and they just keep moving around.  I just love swaps because your quilt is made from so many Happy Quilters scraps ;)

And when classes were all done, I got all set-up and did my Charming Baby Quilts Trunk Show Friday evening!!  And oh, this was so much fun!!!  I got to share my 10 quilts from Charming Baby Quilts along with the 10 Remix's and the Charming Baby Sampler.   I just love getting to share the stories behind my quilts, from their designs, to picking fabric, to why I quilted them a certain way.  It was just so great and now everyone has lots more "go-to" baby quilts :)

And now, I get to look forward to the Quilty Friends Spring Retreat next week!!!  Yup, remember when I said the attendance was split in half for social distancing . . . well, the other half are next week and I can't wait :)   It is going to be oh so much fun!!!

Oh, and one last picture.   Several of you requested to see Barbara's Posh Penolope quilt from class last year after I shared my Posh Penolope Mini a bit ago.   Well, here we are.  Barbara and her amazing Queen Size Fall Stunner, and me and my Purple one block mini.   Trust me, this got a lot of laughs when we shared them together ;)

And that was the Winter Retreat, and I am just so happy to have been able to attend and can't wait for the Spring Retreat next week.  More to share soon ;)

Happy Quilting!!

Timberland Mountain Lullaby Quilt!!

So you all might recall, one of my new favorite places to sew is at Barbara and Bob's cabin.   It is just so incredible peaceful and the last time I was there, I was thinking the beds needed some more "mountain-ish" quilts.   I mean, of course every bed has a homemade quilt on it, but most of them are a little more "girly".   So when I saw the new Timberland Line from Riley Blake Designs, I knew it was just perfect for the Cabin!!!   And wouldn't you agree, isn't this new Timberland Mountain Lullaby quilt just a perfect Cabin Quilt ;)

I mean, how can it not be perfect with these prints from Timberland!!!   Mountains, Trees, Forest Animals, Fur, and Tracks . . . and all in beautiful neutral tones!!!  It is just gorgeous :)

And I knew just the perfect pattern for these prints!!!   What better design to showcase large amazing prints and a special pop fabric then my Moroccan Lullaby Pattern with a twist ;)   I always wondered what this Happy Quilting Pattern would look like with a print in the center of the blocks instead of the background . . .  Well now I know, and the answer is stunning!!!   It looks like a totally different design and I just love it ;)     In fact, I loved it so much, I even made sure all my directions for the corner points lined up, and that is huge for me as I never worry about directional fabric!!!   But it gave it the perfect finish.

Well, that and the amazing pop of that gold fabric!!!   I knew it would just be perfect for the crosshatching and add in the beautiful Shades Asphalt Outline and Shades Burlap Background, and well, it just makes my smile!!!   I don't think there could be a more perfect quilt for the cabin.   And I got the best compliment this morning when my 18 year old son asked " Can that quilt go on the bed I sleep in at the cabin, it is awesome!!"  Yup, you better believe I said Absolutely!!!

I even kept with the cabin theme when I quilted it as I did an all over woodgrain design.   I haven't quilted this design in a long time and I forgot how much fun it was!!!  I also loved how fast the Infinity quilted and how well it handled the back and forth of the design.  Sure love that new machine.  I quilted it with a gold thread and love how it pops on the blacks and greys ;)  So fun!!!

And I just love how this dense quilting design makes for some incredible texture.   Doesn't that just make you want to snuggle right up in this quilt :)  And believe me, we were up at the cabin recently, and snuggling up in quilts in front of the fireplace is just so great after playing outside in the snow ;)

I am just so happy with how this quilt turned out!!  I can's wait to take it up to it's new home at the cabin.   And now I am totally on the lookout for more "cabin" fabric so I can make all the Mountain Quilts!!!

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

Oh, and side note . . . I am wondering and would love your opinion.  Obviously, I made quite a few alterations to the Moroccan Lullaby pattern with fabric placement and borders and it totally changes the look of the pattern.   And of course, that meant quilty math (which you all know I love :)   But I am wondering if you love it as well . . .  Is that something you all would do with your own Morrocan Lullaby pattern, or would you rather just have me work on a Morrocan Lullaby 2 pattern with these changes??   Just wondering if it would be worth the cost to you??   Thanks for your help :)

Family Vacation

So this last week was amazing!!!   We were so incredibly blessed to get away from the cold and snow, and take a little family vacation to Maui, Hawaii.   We were there for a week and I already want to go back.  It was just a slice of heaven :)

The kids are getting older and so that makes traveling so much easier and more enjoyable.   We knew this was going to be our last family vacation (with everyone there)  for a while because Spencer has just turned 18 and he plans to serve a 2 year mission for our church (The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saint's)  as soon as he graduates and then head off to college.   So of course, we tried to make this last one super memorable.   We had planned a cruise last summer and after it was cancelled tried over Christmas, but of course, it was cancelled as well.  So Hawaii it was, and boy did we have fun!!!

Of course, we did a whole lot of beach time!!  We visited 5 different beaches and the kids had so much fun in the sand and the surf.  They even tried snorkeling and saw fish and some turtles ;)  We also hiked a lot along cliffs, to a blow hole, and some natural pools.  I have to say, I was falling asleep at 8 each night, as they were so happy to just keep doing more and wore me out each day ;)

And our big adventure of the trip was a Zip Line tour through the jungle.   And oh my, it was fun!!!  This kids are so adventurous, they were going off the platforms, spinning,  backwards, and even upside down.  It was a favorite for everyone.   And as you can see, there are two extra's in this picture.  Those are my parents and I am so happy they came along with us.   My dad was in Maui for a summer when he was 18 picking pineapples and hadn't been back since.   It was so fun to watch him relive so many memories and share them with my kids!!!!

What a wonderful trip!!   And now we are back, and after doing a mountain of laundry yesterday, I am pretty much all caught up.  Which is good, because today is another Celebration!!!   Today is my Sweetheart's birthday and I am making his favorite pecan pies ;)    Happy Birthday Jacob!!!

Oh, and one last high note from our trip, which actually happened on the way back.   Remember how I said my son is getting ready to serve a mission, well somewhere over the ocean, he got his call.  He had checked his email before we left Hawaii and nothing.  Then he checked it when we landed at our layover in San Francisco and he had that email we have all been waiting for :)   We found a semi-quiet spot in the airport, zoomed in our family and friends, and opened the email.   He will be serving in the Frankfurt Germany mission, and starts his training in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah on July 14th.   Just wow!!!   We are so proud of his decision to serve and know he will be a wonderful missionary.     So ya, so glad to get that last family vacation in (we already had a summer one planned with friends on July 15th, to funny!!!) before he goes.

So I am off to see if I can do a little sewing before the birthday celebrations begin.

Thanks all for popping in and sharing a more family oriented post with me :)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Twinkle Toes Start

So you might recall, I was trying to decide whether to make a quilt or a table runner from December Sew Sampler fabrics . . . well, I decided on a quilt and got to cutting!!! I had 42 squares total between the two Lori Holt Petite Bundles, and managed to cut some 5 extra 2 1/2" squares from each 10" square as well.   Double bonus :)  I will have to add a border on the quilt to make it lap size, but that's fun and quick.

And when I finished cutting the Lori Holt squares,  I remembered I had planned to used my Red Barn Christmas scraps from the quilt I shared Friday to make a Christmas Table Runner.   So, yup, more cutting!!!   And again, more bonus 2 1/2" scrap squares.

And I had so much fun cutting, I just couldn't stop.   So I grabbed my Sparkle Star Foundation Paper and whipped up the first 4 blocks.   These will be for the 4 corners.  I didn't have time to sew more, but  I was just so happy to see how fun and cute these first 4 blocks were.

I am hoping it won't be long before I am sharing some Sparkle Star and Twinkle Toes finishes :)   And yippee for more paper piecing practice!!

How about you . . . do you feel confident paper piecing or like me, are you looking for a little practice??  I still plan on working on this Paper Piecing quilt (although not as Leader/Enders)  as well, which are also not to difficult and will be some great practice ;)

Let the paper piecing fun commence!!!

Starlite Sampler Quilt!!

I have one more secret sewing project to share this week that I made for my good friends at Moda Fabrics ;)   And this was one of those super fun ones where the turn around is super fast (like fabric arrives on Monday Evening and quilt is mailed back on Thursday Evening :)   And it's Christmas!!!   I think my favorite Christmas Designer is Sweetwater, (I just love how they always incorporate black!!)  so I was super excited to get to make their Starlite Sampler Quilt using their newest Christmas line, Red Barn Christmas!!!

And at first glance, this quilt looks like it is oh so much piecing, but never fear, all of those red and green adorable blocks are part of a panel!!!   So really it's just some fussy cutting fun and then some Applique blocks!!!   And you all know how I just love Applique ;)    I finished these with machine stitching in black, and I just love how it adds to the charm of this quilt!!!  Isn't it just so fun!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I went all out!!!  I stitched echoed paisley's in the border, wishbones in the sashing, and pebbles in the background of the applique blocks.   Then on the panel blocks, I did some super fun custom quilting!!!   Each block is quilted differently.   I took inspiration from the shapes in the blocks and then just let the quilting take it away.  Yup, the quilting took me longer than the piecing, but it was oh so worth it.    It turned out so cute and I just love it!!

These are a few of my favorites.   It didn't photograph well on the white, but you can see the design in the red and green.   So fun!!!

And now, it is off to visit quilt shops so they can get pics and share all about this awesome quilt!!!       And if you love this quilt just as much as I do, you guessed it . . .  Fat Quarter Shop has a Kit already listed for it.   (and that's my quilt in the picture :)    It will be a bit of a wait as the fabric won't be available until June but you can add your email to be notified when it is available.  And then you will be all set for Christmas in July!!!!

And that is the Starlite Sampler quilt!!!!  I am just thrilled with it and can't wait to add it to my collection of Christmas quilts when it comes back someday ;)     Oh, and I had some scraps from the kit, and am planning a Christmas table runner as well . . . more on that soon.     Truly, I could just sew with Christmas fabrics all year round, they just make me smile!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!

A New WIP

I am always so excited to start a new project. . . and I recently picked fabric for 2 versions of my new project.   And if you follow along . . . you know the only time I make 2 quilts of the same design is when I am making a new pattern!!!   Yup,  new Happy Quilting pattern in the line-up.

I plan to make a large version from the new Songbird Fabric line by Fancy that Design House, a new designer for Moda Fabrics!!!   I mentioned when I made the Guiding Stars quilt how much I loved this line and had another project planned for it . . . well, this is the project ;)    I plan to use these 16 Beautiful Fat Quarters with the coral fabric for Pop and the white fabric for background.   I can't wait to get this all cut up and start working on it!!!

And for a baby size version, I am planning on using these adorable Kaisley Rose prints by Poppie Cotton.   I am debating between using all the prints, or just the blue and pink ones in the first 2 rows.  We will see how it all comes together :)

And I know that isn't sharing much about the new pattern, but I want to keep it a bit of a surprise.   I will give you a big hint though . . . It will use my Modified Drunkards Path Templates ;)   Oh ya, back to fun sewing with curves.   I love it and can't wait!!

These fabrics don't come out until April/May, so it will still be a little bit before I release the pattern, but it will be worth the wait, I promise.   Ohhh, I just love starting new projects!!!

Time to press and cut ;)
