Journal Quilt!!!

Last Friday I shared my Goldenrod Pyramids quilt I made for Spring Market, and today  I am sharing my second secret sewing project for my good friends at Moda Fabrics ;)   And I am so excited!!!  It's not as often that I go totally traditional in my quilts, and so this was a fun way to shake things up.    It's called Journal and isn't it just so pretty!!!!

The fabric in this quilt is called Memoirs by 3 Sisters.  And again, it won't be in stores till November,   but it is totally worth the wait.   I just love the classic colors of this quilt, and the prints are full of beautiful floral creations and budding vines!!!    And there is even some script text thrown in too, which I just love!!!

The design was done by Carrie Nelson and of course, you know how much I love piecing stars!!!   This quilt obviously has quite a bit of piecing in it, but it really was so much fun to put together.   All of those happy points just make me smile ;)  And I loved making the giant HST border, I will have to remember that, because ya 7" HST's are so fun and easy to trim and look awesome!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I went for fast and beautiful which lately has equaled the all over  loose feather design.  I used 402 Pearl which always blends so nicely, even on the darker prints ;)   And I love how all of the soft curves of the quilting offset all of the angles of the triangles.  Just so great!!!    Can't get more classic of a finish then feathers, perfect for a classic quilt!!!

This quilt was also hanging at market, and I got a peek of it in a video that Carrie filmed in the Moda Booth, but I never saw a picture of it so I can't share that here.   But it looked so pretty hanging with all of the Memoirs quilts ;)    It finishes at  72" x 72" so it is a great size to lay out on with a book.

And that is my Journal Quilt and I am so grateful that I got to make it up ;)   I really did enjoy using a more traditional fabric and shaking it up a bit.   And such a pretty finish it made!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!

Mail Box Coming and Goings :)

Yesterday was an awesome mail day!!!  Don't you just love those kind of days ;)    First off, I got my May Sew Sampler Box, which I will share more of tomorrow after I get a chance to make this month's block ;)   Second, I got a giant squishy package, and ya all know those are the best kind of packages!!!  I was thrilled when my good friend Jina Barney asked if I wanted to participate in a blog hop for her second fabric line with Poppie Cotton's called Wanderings :)   And look at the pretty goodness that Wanderings is ;)  I already have a pattern written up and I can't wait to get cutting and sewing these gorgeous prints.    And as a side note, You might recall, I also am working on a pattern using Jina's first line Prairie Sisters, and I managed to finish the quilting on it over the holiday weekend, (10 hours of quilting!!!) so hopefully I can get the pattern finished up soon and share it with you all ;)

And a third Quilty Goodness Package arrived yesterday as well!!!   Speaking of projects in the works, I still haven't decided what pattern I want to do for Jocelyn's bed that I mentioned back here, but I am leaning towards a new design that I could do a tutorial for ya all ;)    And with that planned in my mind, I needed some yardage for binding and since  Lou Lou Fabric Shop's Memorial Day sale was so awesome, I bought some extra so I could make matching curtains to go with the quilt ;)   And that In the Meadow Charm Pack might have hopped in my cart as well, tee hee hee.  You all know I can't resist Charm Packs!!!     Now I just need to decide on a quilt design so I can get on to making her quilt and the tutorial ;)   Anything in particular you would like to see in a new tutorial, a technique or design concept??

And with happy incoming mail, I was excited to also have some happy outgoing mail ;)  I finished my Bee Block for Sinta and was thrilled to make another Around The World Block.  If you haven't tried one of these before, they are so much fun!!!  In fact, I even had my Bee Mates make me this block a few years back and made this awesome Small Trips Quilt from them ;)    It really is such a fun and fast quilt with so many layout options, you totally need to try it some day if you haven't already ;)

And now, I think I best get to cutting, stitching, pressing and repeating with all these new pretty fabrics :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

Goldenrod Pyramids Quilt!!!

Well, with Spring Market all done now, I can share some of the secret sewing that I did earlier for my good friends at Moda Fabrics ;)   Like most Market projects, this was one of those "get the fabric and turn it around right quick" kind of deals, and it's just one of two quilts I made, tee hee hee.   And I know that sounds totally crazy that I would want to do that, but really it is so much fun for me ;)  I love getting to be a little part of Market, and I am super happy to help out my wonderful friends at Moda and to get to play with some of the new and upcoming fabrics :)  So with that said, here is the first quilt I made for Spring Market 2019 and it's called Goldenrod Pyramids and isn't it just so great!!!

The fabric in this quilt is called Goldenrod and it is by One Canoe Two.  It won't be in stores till November, (Again, it is so fun to get to sew with these early :)   but it is totally worth the wait.   I just love the gorgeous colors in this line and the Prints are so fantastic!!!   They are taken from Beth Snyder's paintings and in a word, stunning!!!  I especially love the big Raleigh Rose Floral.   And this quilt design really shows off those larger prints, which is doubly awesome!!!

The design was done by Carrie Nelson and uses 60 degree triangles.  It really went together fast (which was good because the other quilt was a little more piecing intense ;)  and was a whole lot of fun to sew.   You just had to piece the smaller triangle blocks, and then sew the rows together.  Simple, fast, and oh so much fun!!!  And it is Fat Quarter Friendly :)  I just love Fat Quarters!!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided all of those beautiful floral prints needed a beautiful quilting motif, so I went with the all over feathered swirl.  I used 402 Pearl which always blends so nicely, even on the darker prints ;)   And I love how all of the soft curves of the quilting offset all of the angles of the triangles.   So pretty!!

And of course, with such a dense quilting design, it made for some incredible texture.   Doesn't that just make you want to snuggle right up in this quilt and take a nap ;)   The quilt finishes at 67" x 72" so it is a great size to do just that!!!

And I have to say, I was totally doing a little happy dance when Moda posted this pic on Instagram of Goldenrod Pyramids hanging at market ;)   Doesn't that just make you want to make this quilt!!!
I know it is on my list to make again for sure!!!

I am so grateful that I got to make this awesome Goldenrod Pyramids quilt and that I didn't have to keep it a secret for to long ;)   Be sure to pop back in next week when I will share the other quilt I made for Market.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!!

Jessica's Qube Sampler - Up to 8!!!

Yesterday was the last day of school and we celebrated by sewing!!!   You might recall, my daughter Jessica is working on a GO! Qube Sampler.   She only had to go to school for a tiny bit yesterday, so we used the rest of the day to stitch and stitch some more!!   And she finished 3 blocks, so awesome!!!  So here they are :)

This is the Louisiana block from the GO! Qube Book, and it is the sixth block Jessi has made.   She learned about trying to sew right through the thread X to get those nice points.  A few got a tiny bit flat, but her center pinwheel lined up perfect as she has gotten a lot of practice at the Pin Trick ;)    She liked that this one had more of a windmill feel to it and it kind of became the leading concept for the rest of the blocks we sewed.

So for her Block 7 she chose the Clay's Choice Block from the Go! Qube Book because again, she liked the pinwheel look :)     She did such a great job on that center pinwheel, and it is so fun to watch her work.   Last time I mentioned that I was trying to so more hands off, well this time when we sat down to sew, she just went at it!!!  I get an occasional question of which way to pin something, or how would I press, but all in all, she just sews her blocks while I work on other projects.  And I can't begin to explain how fun it is to just sew together!!!

And she blew me away, but wanting to make a third block in one sewing session.   EEEkkk,I think she might be hooked ;)   So this is the 8th block she has made and it is called Susannah Variation 1.   And I have to say, there was a tiny bit of discouragement on this one because she sewed the top row on the wrong way and had to unpick and put it back on.   But she pressed on, and I told her that is some of the best learning!!!   We just keep smiling and be Happy Quilting ;)

I am hoping with no school for the next few months that we will have lots more time to sew and see just how far she can get on her  GO! Qube Sampler quilt.   I just love how the GO! Qube dies have all the clipped corners and exact cuts to give Jessica so much confidence in sewing these blocks that really are amazing skill builders!!!  This is all 8 blocks she has made so far.   Aren't they just so pretty  (yup, super proud mama over here:)

She really is getting super comfortable with the pieces from the GO! Qube and that makes me so happy!!!   So now I am thinking it's time to take things up a notch.  The GO! Qube Angles and GO! Qube Corners Companion Sets will give her a lot more variety in her blocks and new skill building opportunities, Perfect!! (and they are even on sale!!!)   Should be fun :) Can't wait to share her next set of blocks!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Just Dandy Quilt Finish!!!

I don't know why I am surprised each time May comes around that the month always just fly's by.  You would think I would realize by now that with school coming to a close and all the programs, concerts, and ballgames  (not to mention a little Market secret sewing )   that May is always in super speed :)  So two weeks ago, I realized I just needed to sew something to feel like I could finish something.   And that is when I saw this stack of 2 patches that were left over from this Dandy Annie Quilt  that have been sitting on the back corner of my sewing desk for almost a year, just waiting to be made into a quick finish.  The next day it was on the long arm and TaDa!!!!  A Just Dandy simple Patchwork quilt finish ;)

I know I say it every time, but simple patchwork is just oh so fun and perfect when you just need a quick finish.  I think the quilt top was sewn in about an hour and a half.   And then I went straight to the long arm.

I had so much fun quilting this ;)   I did my Wavy Peel design in the squares, which is a super fun way to give that double arch look without worrying about having to make perfect arches with a ruler.   This free motion design is actually in the 180 More Doodle Quilting Designs, just FYI as last time I showed this design someone was asking how to do it ;)    And as I am still not a feather expert, I was grateful that the 402 Pearl So Fine thread blended really nicely into the border fabric.  It for sure shows the yummy texture, but not every time I slightly missed backtracking on the lines of the spines and petals :)

Oh, and you might have noticed, at the beginning I said 2 weeks ago, but I am just sharing this today . . . . Ya, I had so much fun quilting this on the long arm, I kind of got myself into a Long Arming kick for the next little bit and whenever I could squeeze in a minute, I was quilting ;)  Which means I have 3 other quilts done, that are just waiting for binding.   Which is what I was doing this morning on this quilt to be able to share the finish with you ;)   Please tell me I am not the only one that gets on piecing kicks, and then quilting kicks where you do all of one and none of the other for a good week???

But anyhow, I am super excited to have finished this Just Dandy quilt and I won't even have to tuck it away for long as a sweet friend is expecting a new little girl ;)   The quilt finishes at 44" square so it is going to be just perfect for snuggling up a wee one in.

Thanks so much for popping in today and sharing this Just Dandy finish with me ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!  Which is pretty easy this weekend, right, as we get to see all of the amazing pics from Quilt Market ;)    Which I promise, I will share some of that secret Market Sewing next week!!!

Until next time ;)

UQSM 2019 Teaching!!!!

Last Monday I shared what an amazing time I had teaching at UQSM at the beginning of this month!!!  Today, I am going to share all of the amazing classes I got to teach and the wonderful ladies I got to spend a few hours with quilting ;)  What fun!!!  I taught 4 classes (Pave the Way, Corkscrew, Playground Picnic, and Petal Pop) and did a trunk show.   Talk about two days packed of quilting goodness!!!

The first class I taught was on Thursday afternoon and I was delighted to have a full class for my Pave the Way pattern.   This is such a great class!!!  You go over so many basic piecing units and then some great tricks to have them all come together with perfect points.   Everyone did such a great job and their blocks are all just amazing!!!  And this is a lot of piecing for a three hour class and just a good portion of the ladies finished their block in class and I even had one student finish both the A and B blocks in class time.  So awesome!!!

That evening I taught my Corkscrew pattern.   There were only three ladies in class, but it was still every bit as wonderful!!!  It was actually nice after having such a big class earlier that had both Barbara and I hoping the whole three hours.  This smaller class was great as Barbara had time to help hold a baby and I had time to visit with each lady individually.  And they still all worked just as hard managing to each finish a block, even into the later hours of an evening class!!!

Then came Friday and boy was it a full day and oh so much quilting fun!!!  I started the morning by teaching my Playground Picnic Class.  We had 9 amazing ladies in class, and they all finished their A block and most of them finished a B block as well, which is just the opposite fabric layout.  This class is quickly becoming a favorite of mine to teach.  The construction of the block is a little different as it is pieced on point, but then I left room for trimming, so it just makes everyone smile when their block comes out perfect every single time, even on point!!!    It really is just a super fun block to make and everyone was all smiles and laughs ;)

And Friday Afternoon I got to do a Trunk Show of my quilting journey.   This is always so fun to get to share just how amazing this industry is and my absolute love for quilting!!!    And one of the gals in the show was kind enough to share some pics with me.  So sweet of her!!!   Trunk shows are always so fun, the only hard part is deciding which quilts to bring and share :)   When you are making 35-45 quilts a year, they tend to stack up, tee hee hee.

I started with 75 quilts pulled from piles but quickly realzied that was to many for an hour.   So I managed to narrow it down to 50 to bring and share.  But still, it's a good thing I like to talk fast, because we flew through that hour.  I had so much fun sharing my quilting journey and I hope that those that were in attendance were able to learn some great little tidbits or be a little quilty inspired to help them along their quilting journey as well ;)

And then it was time to pack up those 50 quilts and switch gears to my final class that Friday evening.   And this one was totally full with 21 students as it was my ever popular Petal Pop class.    This is another super fun class as the construction of the block is never what students expect, but once it click, they just get a big ol grin and start seeing their blocks come together in no time!!!   And Oh how fun all of their blocks are!!!  I know I always say this about teaching, but it is always so great to see the different fabrics everyone has chosen to make their quilts with.  I go home wanting to make every class quilt in at least 3 new color schemes :)

And that was my two days teaching at the Utah Quilting and Sewing Marketplace  It truly was such a fun few days getting to sew with so many amazing people and just enjoying the general quilty atmosphere.    This was my first time teaching at UQSM and I hope it won't be my last because I absolutely loved it!!!

And if you are wondering where I will be teaching next, you can always click on the Events/Teaching  tab at the top of my blog ;)   Until next time, Happy Quilting!!!
