Its the season of Gratefulness, and I am so grateful for my wonderful Sew Sampler Box that arrives each month. It really is my favorite mail every time!!! This month the theme of the box is Winter Blooms and it is so great!!! Lots and lots of amazing quilty goodness!!
It starts off with this gorgeous Perennials Melody Fat Quarter Bundle by Beverly McCullough for Riley Blake!! I just love Bev's beautiful colors and pretty floral prints. They always have such a great feel of whimsy to them that just make me smile. And of course, the Perennials quilt is totally going on my list to make. So cute!!!
And the notions this month are so super helpful!!! First off, I love all of Karen Kay Buckley's scissors and these 4" Multipurpose ones will come in super handy for trimming tails from piecing. And I am becoming such a big fan of the Magic Pins, they are my go to pins in the pincushion next to my sewing machine, perfect for aligning all my points. And finally, the All-In-One quilters reference tool book is just so handy!!! You know when you have to remember the square in a square math and such. Now I can find it all in one handy place!!
And we are month 8 of the Pieceful Basket Sampler and this months block has more tiny geese. My Milk and Honey fabrics prints that are left are getting pretty light, but luckily they still pop on my Kona Lime Background :) We are getting closer to seeing this all come together ;)
And for today's Terrific Tuesday Giveaway, Green Fairy Quilts will be giving away something Very Special!!! This is Judi Madsen's, owner of Green Fairy Quilts, first fabric line Curated Blooms for Riley Blake Designs, and she is giving away a Curated Blooms Fat Quarter Bundle to one lucky reader!!! The month is quickly coming to a close, so that means another Month of the Dragon Fruit Block of the Month was ready to piece. And here is Month 2 of the Dragon Fruit hosted by Fat Quarter Shop and I just love it!! It is so fun that we get to sew the "big blocks" together as we go, it makes you feel like you are really seeing it come together!!!
The Dragon Fruit Block of the Month will run from Oct 24 to June 25. This month we made the following 16 Paper Pieced 4" blocks and then sewed them into the 9 patches above. And after last months log cabins, these went together much quicker as they had far less pieces :) And each months pieces are made with Tula Pinks gorgeous fabrics. Now we have the "leaves" all finished in their pretty greens, teals, and citron colors ;)
Month 2 is done and I can't wait for Month 3 to arrive!!! (which will be close to Christmas so we will see how I do on keeping up :) If you are just joining in, I shared some thoughts and helpful hints on this awesome BOM here . And if you are new to Paper Piecing, I did a strep by step paper piecing tutorial (for a different block) over here that you might find helpful :) I am still no expert, but I am enjoying it more and more with each paper piecing project I tackle.
And that is it for Dragon Fruit Block of the Month - Month 2 Again, there is still time to join in the fun, but I wouldn't wait long, there is a lot of paper piecing each month!!
And I am so glad I choose all of the low volumes of the Sweetwater Christmas prints for the letters! They look so good on the POParazzi Grey Background and I think they are just going to look so great in the center of the quilt. So close to starting to sew this quilt together!!!
And that is it for Week 12 of of the Home Town Holiday Sampler Quilt Along!!! You can join in the fun with Lori Holt's Home Town Holiday Sampler Book! You can see the Quilt Along schedule here but make it at your own pace.
Today I am so excited to share a new quilt with you!! Can you believe I had made over 300 quilts before I discovered Batiks? They are just so great with their bold colors and prints. So ya, I have been falling in love with making Batik Quilts and lucky for me, Expression Batiks is releasing a whole ton of new Batik Collections and asked if I wanted to create with some! I knew these Warm Rain Prints on a Dark Background would just sing! So I went to my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book and designed a new Dutch Days quilt and here it is.
What I really love about the quilts in my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book is that they are all made from One Layer Cake/ 10"Square Stacker and a background fabric. But this time, I decided to Super Size my Dutch Days quilt so I grabbed Two 10" Stackers and 4 1/4 Yards of that stunning Indigo Dye from the Warm Rain Collection for the background and away I went.
And I just love how the colors just pop!!! The movement in this quilt is already great, but I think these Batiks just make it all the more special. Isn't it just so fun to see how much a quilt design changes by changing the fabric! And I love that this design allows you to make it look super scrappy, even though it is made with a Layer Cake/10" Stacker. So easy and fun :)
And Dutch Days might look like you will be trimming Half Square Triangle's forever, but guess what, there is not a single HST unit in the entire quilt. It is made using No-Waste Flying Geese Units and if you haven't made those before, you are going to love how these flying geese come together! This whole quilt is super fast and super fun to make and is equally great for beginners and experts alike. The original Dutch Days quilt finishes at 72" square, but like I said, this quilt was super sized this one to a queen size (90 x 90) by adding 9 more blocks ;)
And when it came time to do the quilting, Barbara quilted a gorgeous flowing swirling flower all over. I love how the flowing quilting adds to the movement of all those sharp crisp lines in the piecing. And using a Navy thread made it blend in the background and pop on all of the color prints. So fun!!
And that is my new Dutch Days quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this new quilt as much as I do. To see all of the quilts from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book, you can Visit This Post with all the quilts and all the details ;) Again, each of the 9 quilts in the book are made with one Layer Cake/ 10" Stacker and a background fabric. And as you can see, it is also easy to make them bed sized by just adding a few more blocks ;)
Oh, and if you make your own Dutch Days Quilts, (or any of the quilts from Fast & Fun Lap Quilts ) I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtag #happyquiltingwithmc and tag @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Quilts!!
And that is all for today :) I am just loving Batik Quilts, I can't believe it took me so long to discover how fun they are to make!!! I will be sharing more soon from the wonderful world of Batiks ;)

It's Month 8 of the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along and I really can't wait to piece together all of these ombre blocks and see this top come together!!! It's getting so close ;) Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for hosting this awesome quilt along from the Celebrate with Quilts book!! And here is the month 8 finishes all in pinks and reds!!
I am making my Piece and Quilt Sampler in a diagonal Rainbow of Ombre goodness. (see plan here ) And I just love it when the blocks are two colored like this 12" Eight hands Around Block. I really watched closely to cut this one out as prints are touching prints. I went with the medium to light reds in the middle and dark reds around the outside. And of course, there is a pop of pink in the corner!
Then it was on to the 4 Aircraft Blocks that are each 9". And this was some fun with piecing lots of triangles together!! It's always fun to mix it up and sew a different shape every now and then ;) And won't these four blocks look so cool when they are all sewn together into this two toned layout!!
You can join in the Piece and Quilt Fun at any time!! And when you make your blocks, you can share your Piece and Quilt Sampler progress on social media with #PieceAndQuiltSamplerQAL :) There is so much Piece and Quilt inspiration in that hashtag :)
And that's it for Month 8 - 4 of the 9" Aircraft blocks, and a 12" Eight Hands Around block in the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along!!!!
Thanks for popping in today ;) Have a Happy Quilting Day!!
