Planning a New Scrappy Neutral Quilt!!

A little while back I made this made this Cabin Among the Stars , Scrappy Neutral quilt.  (which there is a free pdf pattern for, just sayin ;)  I so loved it and have been wanting to make another Scrappy Neutral Quilt ever since.

Well, the other day, I noticed the neutral scrappy drawers are getting pretty full!!!   And well, I recently got these Turkey in the Straw BOB AccuQuilt Die and Friendship Chain BOB AccuQuilt Die.  And how fun would they be paired together in scrappy neutral!!!

So I went over to my EQ8 and started playing.   This is what I cam up with.   Isn't it just so fun!!!   It will make a large lap size quilt and I think it is joining to be just gorgeous.   I love adding the snowball cornerstones to continue the chain.    And adding a second block to offset the chain, perfect ;)

So now, It is time to start cutting!!!   And you know, I just love AccuQuilt for super speedy scrap cutting!!!   This is going to be a fun new project ;)

What about you???  Have you tried a Neutral Scrappy Project??  They really are oh so much fun and turn out just beautiful!!

Dizzy Days Irish Chain for the Cabin!!

Today I am thrilled to be sharing my newest quilt finish!!  You all know how I love to make quilts for our Family Cabin (see some here, and here, and here) Well when I saw the new Only You Fabric Collection for Riley Blake Designs I just knew that it would be perfect for a cabin quilt!!  And since I have made quilts for all of the queen size beds, it's time to start making twin size quilts for the bunk beds!!    And the Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt  was the perfect fit!!!

I mean, how can you not love Smokey Bear!!   (and randomly enough, it wasn’t until I was making this quilt that I realized his name is Smokey Bear and not Smokey “the” Bear ) I love the beautiful earthy colors of this line and the prints are just so fun. It’s just perfect for the “out in the wild” kids to come in from a day of play and snuggle up in.

And while this might look a little crazy, it truly is a great beginner quilt with basic quilting techniques.   You are making a “Single Irish Chain” quilt, but with a twist. All of the “chain pieces” are different sizes.    And the fun thing is, the random layout of the blocks means no two quilts will look alike.  Your quilt will be your own original Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt.

And when it came time to quilt mine, I opted for all over meander.  I love how this gives the look of a twisting path weaving through the woods, just perfect for our Only You quilt!     And I just love how my favorite 402 So Fine blends on all of those mountain prints!!   So great.

And like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, the the nice thing is, the Dizzy Days Irish Chain Pattern has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. As I mentioned, this is the twin size for a bunk bed, but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a king size!   And it is Layer Cake/10" Pre-Cut Friendly as well as a great Scrappy Friendly pattern!!! Cause ya know, we all need to do some scrap busting!!  I already plan to make it again in scrappy reds and greens for a Christmas quilt :)

And that is my Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt. featuring the Only You Fabric Collection ! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Dizzy Days Irish Chain quilt.!!! And if you do, I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags #happyquiltingmc and #dizzydaysirishchainquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can’t wait to see your Dizzy Days Irish Chain Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me!!  Now I just need a little more snow to melt so we can get it up to the cabin ;)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

How They Shine featuring Hey Boo!!!

Today I am thrilled to be sharing my newest quilt finish!!!  I never get tired of making star quilts and I just love making my How They Shine quilt pattern ;)   I love the alternating of prints and backgrounds in the two blocks that create so many awesome secondary designs.   I figured it would be perfect for a new Halloween Quilt!!

I don't make a lot of Halloween quilts, because honestly, I don't like "Scary Halloween".  But this new Hey Boo line by Lella Boutique for Moda is so my kind of Halloween.   Cute Pumpkins, Adorable Ghosts, and awesome Pinks, Purples, and Greens added to the traditional Black and Orange!!!  I knew as soon as I saw Hey Boo that I had to make a quilt with it!!!  Hey Boo is truly just  Happy Halloween!!!

And while How They Shine  might look a little intense, it truly is a super fun and easy quilt to make with basic quilting techniques.   A few No-Waste Flying Geese, and some stitch and flip corners and you can whip these blocks up in no time.   And truly, the secondary diamonds created when Block A and B come together are just so fun :)  It really is a design that would work great for any Holiday, whether it be Halloween, Christmas, or 4th of July!!!

And when it came time to quilt mine, I tried something new to me.  I started with just loose wavy lines running down the length of the quilt but I spaced them out a bit more than normal.   Then I went back and added wavy loop de loop lines between the wavy lines.   I think it just adds such a fun touch of whimsy to the design.   And I just love it!!  I have a feeling I will be doing this again soon ;)

And like all of my Happy Quilting patterns,  the How They Shine Pattern has multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you like. This is the Picnic size that finishes at 80" x 80", but you can make it from a baby size all the way to a queen size ;)   How They Shine is  Fat Quarter Friendly, so you just need to grab a Bundle and some background fabric (I used the super happy Ghost Practical Magic Stars)  and get Happy Quilting!!

And that is my newest How They Shine quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own How They Shine Quilt!!! And if you do, I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #howtheyshinequilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your How They Shine Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me :)  I can't wait to snuggle up with this quilt come Halloween ;)

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Piece and Quilt Sampler QAL - Month 1

It's Month 1 of the  Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along and I am just so excited to share my first set of blocks!!!  Thanks to Fat Quarter Shop for hosting this awesome quilt along from the Celebrate with Quilts book!! And here is the month 1 finish, so fun :)

I am making my Piece and Quilt Sampler in a diagonal Rainbow of Ombre goodness. (see plan here)  That just means some of the blocks might look a little weird color wise, but it is going to be so incredible when it all comes together.  So this month we started with 12 of the 3" Shoo Fly blocks.   Aren't they so fun and tiny, so cute!!!

And then, it was on to the Dandy Star block.   And yes, I was so in the habit of making 3" blocks, I made my Dandy Star block 3" as well and went to put it in the big block and realized something was amiss.    But it's so cute, I don't mind adding it to my orphan block box.  It will just be an adorable pop in an orphan quilt ;)   And after making the 3" Dandy Star, making the 6" version was a breeze.  It went together in no time at all.

So are you going to quilt along with the Piece and Quilt Fun???  It's going to be such a fun QAL!  Oh, and once you are done your blocks, Be sure to share your Piece and Quilt Sampler progress on social media with #PieceAndQuiltSamplerQAL and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for Month 1   for lots more Celebrate with Quilts Inspiration!!!

And that's it for Month 1 - 3" Shoo Fly and 6" Dandy Star Blocks in the Piece and Quilt Sampler Quilt Along!!!!

Thanks for popping in today ;)  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!
