Treasured Lap Quilt in Porch Swing

Today I am thrilled to be sharing one of my newest quilt finishes with you today that features the beautiful Porch Swing fabrics by Ashley Collett . I have been wanting to make my Treasured quilt, from my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book, in a dark background for some time, and I knew right away that the rich colors of these fabrics would be perfect for just that!

And here it is, Treasured in Porch Swing

What I really love about the quilts in my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book is that they are all made from one Layer Cake/10″ Stacker and a background fabric. So all I needed to get started was a Porch Swing 10" Stacker. I pulled out the two "dark green" prints as I wanted to make sure all the prints would just pop on that Confetti Cotton Riley Black  background.

And can I just say, the colors pop even more that I thought they would, just so pretty!!!  This truly gives this quilt a whole new look from the original.   Have you made a quilt with a black background yet??  They are just so much fun!!! And Treasured really lets you play with where you want the prints in each component of the design, and I had such a great time mixing and matching these prints to make each block shine!!

And Treasured might look like a little complex, but it truly is a super fast quilt to whip up and oh so much fun to make. Just some basic stitch and flip, and some precise pressing so that all of your angled seams are nested.  So great!!!  Treasured  finishes at 52 1/2" x 68 1/2", so it is a great lap size to snuggle up in.

And when it came time to quilt mine, I decided to to an all over Loose Feather design. I love how it complements the prints in the line with all the swooping leaves and flowers. It really just adds a happy image of vines growing across the quilt. And of course, it is a super relaxing design to quilt and is super fast as well, double bonus!

And that is my new Treasured quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post. To see more of my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts book, you can visit this post and see all the quilts. And if you make your own Treasured Quilt, (or any of the quilts from Fast & Fun Lap Quilts) I would love to see them! I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Moonbeams Quilt Along - It's Coming!!!

I am so excited for the new Moonbeams Charity Quilt Along!!!  This is Fat Quarter Shop's 11th Charity Quilt Along and I can't wait for March to get started :)    This Charity Quilt Along benefits Make a Wish, and there have been so many wonderful Wishes granted from this Quilt Along in the past, and I can't wait to see what Wishes come true this year!!!!

And not only do you help Wishes come True by quilting along . . . but you also get to make this beautiful Moonbeams Quilt!!!!   Isn't that just stunning!!!    I just love this  Moonbeams Quilt design and again, I  can't wait to get started on it ;)

The Moonbeams Quilt Along starts on March 1st, 2024 and a new block/instructions will be released the first Friday of each month until September 2024.   Fat Quarter shop is encouraging a donation of just $10 for the use of each free quilt pattern or a one time donation of $50.  Please give what you are able, every little bit counts towards granting a child's wish ;)   The Fabric Requirements will be released just as soon as we reach the $20,000 milestone of donations.  Oh, and each milestone reached going forward will also release a bonus pattern to go along with the Quilt Along, so fun!!!

If you want your Moonbeams Quilt to be just like the original (and don't want to wait for the fabric requirements release :)   there is a  Moonbeams Quilt Kit and Backing Set featuring Strawberry Lemonade Fabrics by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda Fabrics.   The kit comes with all the fabrics you need for the blocks, background and binding and it even comes in a Bonus Keepsake Box with Magnetic Closure.   And one other bonus . . . The Kit comes with all of the patterns so you don't have to wait each month for them to be released, and yes, it's the only place to get them early ;)

But you can always branch out and choose your own fabrics as well ;)   I loved my Bountiful Quilt from last year done in with Meadowmere by Gingiber for Moda Fabrics  that I am thinking this year I want to do a second Gingiber quilt and use her new Imaginary Flowers Fabric that will be coming out in February, just in time for the QAL!!   But now I just have to decide what color background to use.  I am debating between the white on white print, the blue polka dot or the black polka dot.    What do you think will look best???

So will you be joining in and quilting along for a great cause??  You still have lots of time to get ready and it's going to be so much fun!!! Pop on over to the Bountiful Quilt Along Page for all the details and easy access links for the pattern releases :)

I can't wait for some Happy Charity Quilting starting in March and I hope you will be joining in with me for the quilt along fun!!!!

Tying The Knot Quilt - Pattern Coming Soon!!!

Today I am thrilled to be sharing my newest quilt finish with you featuring the gorgeous Moonbeam Dreams Fabric Collection by Amanda Grace!! I just love Poppie Cotton's collections, and am always so happy to sew with them.  If you haven't tried Poppie Cotton, I highly recommend it.  The quality of the fabric is amazing, and the colors and prints are always just gorgeous!!!   As soon as these prints arrived at my house I knew just what I wanted to make with them!!!  This Tying The Knot quilt is a design that I have been working on for a new pattern (that is coming very soon), and I was just so excited to see it made up with a dark background!!

This Tying The Knot quilt is so much fun to make and it is Fat Quarter friendly, so you can just grab a Fat Quarter Bundle and get to cutting and piecing in no time!!!   All you need is to add some background fabric. I used Licorice Black Country Confetti for my background fabric and I just love how it  makes all of those beautiful prints and colors just pop :)   And the pattern will have an option for a scrappy binding, which is always my favorite.  Howe cute are those pops of colors around the edge!!!

And while this might look a little complex, it truly is a great beginner quilt with some easy to learn techniques.   It is made with Stitch and Flip units and basic piecing.   And everything in the block "floats" so you don't have to worry about lining up an y points :) So fun!!!

And when it came time to quilt mine, I opted for all over open centered swirls.  I haven't done these in a little while, and I forgot just how fun they are to quilt ;)   And a beautiful black thread blended perfectly in the background, and added lots of fun texture to the prints.  So great!!

And the nice thing is, the Tying the Knot pattern will have multiple size options, so you can make whatever size you need. The pattern will be released the week after Thanksgiving Holiday (Along with a few more new patterns!!)    I would have loved to have them in my shop already, but I'll be honest, I am still finishing the quilting on the original ;)  But soon, very soon, and you can look forward to an "After Black Friday - Black Friday Sale"!!!

And that is my Tying the Knot quilt! I hope you have enjoyed this post and consider making your own Tying the Knot Quilt very soon!!! And if you do, I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #tyingtheknotquilt and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Tying the Knot Quilts!!

Thank you so much for popping by and sharing this finish with me and thank you to my wonderful friends at Poppie Cotton's for always letting me play with their gorgeous fabrics!!!

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

GO! Welcome to our Hive Quilt and Free Pattern!!!

I am just buzzing with excitement to share a new finish today!!! Isn't it just so cute!!!   I was so excited when my good friends at AccuQuilt asked if I wanted to make a project using their new Bee & Beehive Die, I immediately knew I wanted to use Half Hexagons, to make the quilt because what goes better with bees than Hexagons ;)  Then I added the adorable applique to make my Welcome to our Hive Quilt!!!   And there is a free PDF Pattern that you can download right here :)

I used Deb Strain's new Honey and Lavender Fabrics for this quilt and they are a perfect fit with all of their cute bee prints and lovely yellows and blacks!!  I especially love the hexagon prints for making the little bee wings and bodies.  So cute ;)    The binding and applique letters are done in Charcoal Solid so they would really pop! And of course, cutting with AccuQuilt is super fun and fast making all of those applique letters and bees a breeze to cut out ;)

I used 1 Honey and Lavendar Layer Cake to make the quilt and  I am just so happy with how this came together :)  And the Half Hexagons mean no Y-seams, yippee :)     The Welcome to our Hive Quilt finishes at 37" x 41" so it is a Wall Hanging or Baby Quilt.   How adorable would this be hanging in a Bee Themed Nursery!!

I just love my AccuQuilt for cutting applique!!   Can you imagine having to trace and then cut out all this applique by hand.   You also attach the fusible before you cut, so it is super easy to layer and stack your applique to the quilt and then fuse it .   Below is a list of the dies I used, see which ones you already have in your die library and maybe add a few more ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over swirl.  Whereas the applique was over the whole quilt, I did not secure stitch around each applique,  rather I decided to secure stitch it with the quilting.  So a nice dense swirl ensures all of that applique stays nice and neat.  I love all of the texture it adds to the quilt as well.

And that is my Welcome To Our Hive Quilt.   I hope you love it as much as I do ;)   Isn't this picture AccuQuilt took of it just so great!!!  I love seeing it styled in a home setting.    And if you want to make your own, you can download the free PDF Welcome to our Hive Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your Welcome to our Hive Quilts!!

Oh, and fun little side note . . . if you want to see this shared on YouTube, you can visit the Sweeter Than Honey Die Launch video.  It is shared towards the end of the show at 34 minutes in :)  It is just so fun to see your projects loved so much, just makes me smile.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
