Well that is one thing more I can cross of my "to do" sewing list, Yippee Skippee!! So what did I think of Improv. piecing. . . . Well, I have to admit, it was a little hard for me. I kept finding myself wanting to layout a design. I would piece together a few pieces and then start laying it out again to make a pattern. I had to keep scooping it up in a pile and telling myself to stop cheating :)
I didn't do anything to crazy. Mostly I did some random horizontal lines and then cut them up to add some vertical lines. I really like the way it turned out (sorry for the lousy picture). It fits the project perfect and by the end of the process I was really starting to have fun. It was a blast to be surprised by the look that just kept changing. I think I will for sure be doing this again in the future.
My favorite thing about this type of piecing . . . It used about every little scrap I had leftover from the top. I had to grab some white out of my stash to make the project large enough, which I was really excited for. It has cute little dragonflies on it in all different colors and frames the randomness. I think it was the perfect finish :)
I really like this. I'm going to piece my backing for the latest quilt top I made out of leftover fabrics. I think I would have a hard time not "designing" it. :-)
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I like it.
ReplyDeletei have to get brave and do that too. i always thing i have to coordinate, match and have a one piece back. my blog name has "random" in it, so i better follow my own lead and go random!
ReplyDeleteI like it!
ReplyDeleteLooks good!!!
ReplyDeleteVery cute! I always see scrappy backs, but by far this is one of the cutest :) I'm also a "organized scrapper" I can never just pull out pieces from a bag and put them together :0
ReplyDeleteIt turned out great! I think I'd want to "design" it as well - even though I wouldn't have the first idea how to go about it!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really nice backing. I've always done one-piece backings in the past, but I think I might give this a try... especially with my new goal to use my stash for every single project this year!
