I made the Celtic Tricks block in prints from Desert Bloom by Sherri and Chelsi for Moda. It is such a fun block to put together!!! And how cool does it look in a full quilt layout with half of the block rotated!!!! It has so much amazing movement and I just love the way the way the pieces intersect with each other to create some awesome secondary designs.
And Celtic Tricks makes for a fantastic scrap buster for all your leftover strings!!! Just keep it random as you make up each of your blocks. And it comes together in some super scrappy goodness!!! This gives you the idea of a rainbow layout, but you could easily use reds and greens for a Christmas theme, or red, white, and blue for a patriotic quilt . . . the possibilities are endless when it comes to scrap happy designs :)
And you can always change it up by just using two colors. I love the fun optical illusion it creates in the black and grey, and hey, you could easily name this quilt design after the theme of the hop, Road Rally!!! Now this image is making me look forward to our next family road trip :) My family loves spending time together as we travel to new places and see new things. And we always look for a good DINER to stop at for dinner. I just love a good down home burger, and my husband and kids love the super yummy shakes ;)
And here's a little sneak peak of another version of Celtic Tricks!!! Isn't it so pretty in pink ;) I'm so looking forward to when I can share more of this quilt. And I will give you a hint . . . think Quilts from 100 Blocks :)
And now, I It really is just a super fun block to put together and whips up pretty fast. I hope you want to make up your own version as well, and if you do, be sure and share it with me. Maybe it will help me decide which version to make ;)
To enter is easy!! All Entries are welcome, including International Entries. Please just be sure to leave an email address if you are a no-reply blogger ;) One Entry per person please and I will announce a winner on Saturday, May 6th ;)

My husband always heads for those great diners as well. It comes from living in NY where you had wonderful diners all over the place with the big showcase of homemade cakes and pies.
ReplyDeleteWe always look for an Italian restaurant when we travel.
ReplyDeleteLove your block. We don't have as much variety when travelling in the UK, so we usually aim for something familiar like McDonalds! Boring, but true :)
ReplyDeleteWhen we travel, we look for a place where we know what to expect, like McDonald's, Wendy's, etc. Thanks for the chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWe like to try non chain restaurants. I usually search YELP or Open Table to find unique restaurants that are known for very fresh ingredients.
ReplyDeleteWe look for places with local beers and produce, for extra deliciousness
ReplyDeleteLove me a diner (ex-new yorker who is always on the lookout for chocolate egg creams)!
ReplyDeleteLovely block! It is all about a great dessert for me-I loved sweets!!!
ReplyDeletewe look for local places
ReplyDeleteWe generally look for a local, not a chain, restaurant. I think it gives a great impression about the place you're visiting.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great block! Congrats with your name being on the cover - you, cover girl! I don't know how you find time with your children. Well, I accomplished more when my children were young and at home. I guess I should be accomplishing lots now. My adult son is living back at home with me - to help both of us and his 3 year old daughter lives with us. She keeps me busy, busy, busy. I don't accomplish much of anything. I haven't quilted in 3 years since my second husband died. I have fibromyalgia and have little energy and am in extreme pain all the time. No complaints. It's just a fact. Having Jessica here has helped immensely. She's so much fun when she's not defiant. She hasn't seen her mom in 14 months since she came here. My son has Full Permanent custody of her now. So, when we look for a place to eat, it's got to be a place that serves FRIES as well as something edible for the rest of us. Jessica is going through a very picky eating spree and so as not to cause a scene in a restaurant, we usually let her have chicken nuggets and FRIES and then we get something that we adults like. She will not eat homemade macaroni and cheese - it has to be out of a box. Grrr. I don't know if some of this is because her mother used drugs and alcohol when she was pregnant with her. I had a mom on Facebook tell me her daughter was born with a cleft palate and it effects foods she can handle. Jessica has a speech problem, so I don't know if she has an issue there, also. This block would make an adorable quilt for her toddler bed. We aim to get her out of the room with her daddy and into her own room this summer.
ReplyDeleteWe usually stop at the local places and try to avoid the chain restaurants.
ReplyDeleteSwiss Chalet is one of our favorite restaurants we look for when traveling! ReplyDeleteYour Celtic Tricks is my favorite of the day :) Just by your layout designs, looks super super complicated :). We're a gluten free family, so we look for open area dining when traveling, so I can bring my food and not be overwhelmed by the smell of bread, etc. Congrats on being a cover girl with your name up in lights!! Decadesigner, or whatever 10 times is :)

ReplyDeleteWe look for "MOM and POP" places where the locals eat.
ReplyDeleteWe like to try new places out. And sometimes we just like a drive thru where we can take it and go find a park for the kids to play at.

ReplyDeleteBarBQ! Although you can't beat a good BLT from a diner. Thanks for the giveaway.
ReplyDeleteI'm a diner girl too! Or something quaint like a tea room works too! If it's recommended by a local, you're usually getting something good!

ReplyDeleteMy husband is an ex=truck driver, so he knows the good hole-in-the-wall places all over.
ReplyDeleteWe look for something unique - non chain or franchise. We have found some of the coolest places - and a couple times found places that have been on food network shows!

ReplyDeleteWe like Cracker Barrel when we are on long road trips.
ReplyDeleteDoes a bakery count? I'm always on the lookout for different cakes, pies, cookies, or anything sweet.
ReplyDeleteI always look for Oriental restaurants when we go on vacation, ones that you actually can sit in and eat your meal, a little on the fancy side but not too expensive. We don't have anything like that around here!
ReplyDeleteLove your block, too! It would be perfect for a quilt for my nephew. He thinks he is "mostly" Irish just because one of our relatives came from there. :)

ReplyDeleteI have a couple favorite fast food restaurants I look for... in theory, it's the same wherever you go so I know what I'm going to get. Not very adventurous but...
ReplyDeleteI look for a safe environment where as an elderly woman can eat comfortably, enjoy the restaurant without a lot of noise or hassle.

ReplyDeleteWe ask the hotel staff for a couple of recommendations for a good place to eat. rozz01 at cox dot net
ReplyDeleteI have a medically challenged child so I don't travel, but when I did, I would search for a Jack in the Box. I know, most people don't like fast food, but I grew up on Jack in the Box. I live in Alabama and the closest one is 115 miles away. I make a trip there every so often to buy 100 of their tacos. I bring them home and freeze. Works great for me.

ReplyDeleteMy husband would rather travel and get where we're going than stop and explore, and yet he refuses to eat in the car, so we usually do familiar fast food. If we want a sit-down dinner, we go for comfy, family-friendly places like Cracker Barrel.

ReplyDeleteI always look for the restuarants having gluten free options as I must be gluten free...

We usually eat at fast food places. It is so much faster and easier. If we decide to go out to lunch we would go to Applebees. I like this place. They are really nice and you don't feel like you are in close quarters with the other customers. You can relax and just breath. Love your block but I always do. You are one creative lady indeed!

ReplyDeleteI am still new to quiLtING so I am over the moon to see your block and find out such a brilliant magazine exists. We live in England and mostly drive through Europe to Croatia for the summer. This year my quilts will go with me. I will do one by hand on route. We stop off anywhere off the beaten track where the food looks home made. It's never the same thing twice as we meander through all the different countries and cultures. Would love to get my hands on the magazine.
ReplyDeleteIt said to leave an email address. Just in case annehuckerby@outlook.com
ReplyDeleteEthnic or foreign food restaurants; often a place that's been featured on tv or in a magazine article.
ReplyDeleteI love your block. So many possibilities! I always prefer family-owned restaurants when I travel. I think I get a better feel of the region that way.

ReplyDeletewe live in Alaska so eating out is a real treat and what we head for is a McDonald's. When we taught in a logging camp, we would go down to Portland, Oregon and the first and last stop would always be for a hamburger. WE even brought back some to eat at home, never minding that the lettuce was limp...it always tasted so good. Love your block. It is interesting which line your eye follows on the different colorways of your block. Thanks so much for sharing.
Love the $1 drinks at McDonald's and going to Cracker Barrel. Who doesn't love that good home cooking?
