Goodness Grows - Sew Sampler BOM Finish!!!!

So if you have been following along with my Sew Sampler Box posts, you know that I have been working on Goodness Grows blocks.  These are a fun BOM that is an annual tradition with the Sew Sampler Box!!!     The first year of Sew Sampler was some fun HST blocks, that I finished up back here, and the second year was Basket Blocks, that I finished up here and the third year was Barn Blocks that I finished here.        Last month marked the 12th block for this years Goodness Grows blocks and I am thrilled to share my finished Goodness Grows Sew Sampler BOM Quilt!!!

I have had so much fun making these Goodness Grows blocks!!!   I loved that each block was different and some even added in a little applique.   It really was great to just try something new with each blocks!!    Some months were super fast and easy, and other months were a little more intricate, adding lots of piecing variety to the mix.      And I love the finished block layout and adorable ribbon border!!!   What a super cute way to finish the quilt!!

I used Corey Yoder's Sugarcreek fabric for my quilt.   I love the happy spring feel it has and it fits these Goodness Grows blocks just perfectly.   In fact, when I started the first block, my good friends at Fat Quarter Shop let me know they were making a Sugarcreek Goodness Grows quilt kit,  and my quilt became the sample for it.   So fun :)   And there are still a few Kit's left if you want to make a Goodness Grows quilt just like mine.

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on an all over Curly Q design.   I love quilting sampler quilts with this design, it is a great way to add a lot of texture without taking away from each of the blocks.  And my favorite thread, 402 So Fine Pearl,  blended perfectly with all that white, and pretty much disappears on the prints.  Just perfect ;)

And I love the green binding to offset the red ribbon border!!!!  It really is just the perfect touch at the end.   And isn't that backing fabric just gorgeous!!!  I just love Corey's fabrics, she is such an amazing designer ;)  And yes, you can even see my custom label.  I tell you what, that was one of the best things I ever bought.  I never labeled my quilts before, now I just sew in my tag while sewing the binding.  So easy and so cute!!!

And that is my Goodness Grows quilt from the Sew Sampler BOM and I just love, love, love it!!!!  It finishes at 66" x 84" so it will make a great snuggle up quilt.  It most likely will be given away for a wedding and I think it would make just the cutest wedding present!!   Won't that just be fun ;)

And now, I am anxiously awaiting to see what the 2020 BOM pattern will be for the Sew Sampler Box!!!  I just want to get going on Year 5, so exciting!!!   If you want to join in with me sewing, be sure and sign up for the Sew Sampler Box in the next few days as the first box of the BOM ships out around the 20th ;)  Ohhh, I just can't wait to see what we will be sewing this year!!!!

Tutorial Throwback Thursday - All In A Row :)

Spring is finally starting to peek through the clouds here in Cedar City, and I am so incredibly grateful for it!!!  Being able to go outside with the kids and play in the backyard is such a blessing to us each day.   Thank you Spring!!!   And so for today's Thursday , I wanted to do a Throwback that reminds me of Spring.   So we are going back 5 years to the All In A Row quilt.   Everything about this quilt, from the fabric, to the design, to the pictures of trees budding just reminds me of Spring  and warms my heart.

All In A Row is obviously a row quilt.  I used some of my favorite basic blocks to make up the rows . . . and aren't Hearts and Homes just perfect for our current staying at home!!!  And I absolutely love the little 9 patch dividing rows, they are just so cute and tiny!!!   The piecing is all very basic and so even though it looks a little tuff, it is still beginner friendly ;)    It finishes at 57" x 70" so it makes a great size for snuggling up with!!!     And there is even a printable version of this All In A Row tutorial, so double bonus!!!!

All In A Row is a Fat Eighth Friendly Quilt, which is always fun since there are so many bundles to choose from.   I  used Brenda Riddle's Ambleside because this quilt was designed for my Grandmother and I gave it to her on her 85th birthday.  (which means her 90th is this summer!!!)  My Grandmother grew up in England and Brenda Riddle just captures English Countryside in all of her fabric lines!!!   It was a perfect fit.   And the beautiful soft tones again just gives this a welcome spring feel!!!

All In A Row was a very special quilt for me to design and make!!!   I used the house blocks in the center because they represented all of the trips to my Grandma and Grandpa's house (she lives in Canada now) for summer vacations!!   The Star blocks represent precious memories of my twin sister and I walking with my Grandma to the bus stop in the very early morning.  We would watch the last of the stars fade as the sun rose while sitting on the bus stop bench.    And I can't make something for GG without having Hearts!!   There is so much love wrapped up in this quilt and I am so grateful for that!!!

And that is my All In A Row Quilt!!!     I hope you have enjoyed today's Tutorial Throwback Thursday as much as I have!!!    And maybe you can make All In A Row for someone special to you!!!      To make your own All In A Row quilt  just click on any of the project name links for the free step by step tutorial.    And when you are done,  I would love to see your Quilts!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  :)   I can't wait to see your All In A Row Quilts!!!

Thanks for popping in today!!!   I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

WEEK 1 - A STAR IS BORN AND COLOR IN THE LINES

It's the first week of making blocks for the Charming Baby Sew Along and I am so excited!!!  This weeks assignment will go super quick and super easy.   You will need your copy of Charming Baby Quilts  for the piecing instructions as well as the Week 1 Charming Baby Sew Along Pattern for cutting instructions ;)  This week we will be making blocks from the A Star is Born quilt and the Color in the Lines quilt!!!

First up, A Star is Born!!   This quilt is the main cover quilt of the book and really has become quite the star of the book :)   It uses 2 Charm Packs and I used Bloomington Charm Packs by Lella Boutique for Moda and a Black on Grey Cross Weave Background.  Fat Quarter Shop has A Star is Born Kit that will be released soon.   This quilt is super fun to make with lots of happy half square triangles and a beautiful star layout.   A Star is Born finishes at 52"x 52" so it is a great size for baby to play on, and then will become a favorite to drag around as they grow into toddler years ;)

And for our Sew Along, we will be making a block that is the center of the star ;)  Isn't that just so fun!!!  Use the A Star is Born piecing directions from the book and the Week 1 Pattern  for cutting directions to make your block.  This block will be the center of your Charming Baby Sampler Quilt ;)

And next up, the Color in the Lines quilt!!!  This quilt is probably the most beginner friendly in the book as it goes together with simple straight lines :)   It uses 1 Charm Pack and I used a Pemberly 5" Stacker and a Confetti Cottons Cloud Background.   This quilt really goes together fast and is perfect for a last minute baby gift.  Color in the Lines finishes at 36" x 45" so it makes a wonderful crib size quilt.

And for our Sew Along, we will be making 4 sets of blocks that are just simple pieced strips ;)  Isn't that just so fun!!!  Use the Color in the Lines piecing directions from the book and the Week 1 Pattern  for cutting directions to make your blocks.  These blocks will be in the top and bottom row of your sampler and give a fun sashing look to other blocks :)
