Tutorial Throwback Thursday - Summer Sleepover Set

This week we are camping with our very best friends from school.  We always have such a great time with them!!!  And of course, camping means lots of packing of pillows, blankets, and bags and it has been so fun to see my kids dragging around their Summer Sleepover Set from place to place.  They are just perfect for each of them.   So So for today's Thursday throwback , I figured it was only fitting to share my Summer Sleepover Set:)

The Summer Sleepover Set is actually 3 full tutorials that walk you through step by step with all of the pictures.  There is a tutorial for a pillowcase first off.   This is a super easy tutorial and it even has a nice decorative band around the opening of the case.   Perfect if you want to do the million pillowcase challenge.

And next up in the  Summer Sleepover Set is this adorable little drawstring bag.   This is the perfect size for an overnight when you just want to pack up some pj's and such ;)   And my kids just love the drawstring tie.  And again, it is a lot easier to make than it looks.  If I can make it, you totally can!!!

And finally, the he Summer Sleepover Set has a tutorial for a cute panel quilt.   And of course, you don't have to use these panels.   The tutorial would work great for any panel that you want to turn into a quilt.  Which is so nice, because sometimes it is just so great to be able to make a quick finish like this, especially when you know it is going to be their "car" quilt :)

And that is my Summer Sleepover Set!!!     I hope you have enjoyed today's Tutorial Throwback Thursday as much as I have!!!    Summer is a great time to just get away and this little set is just so fun to get away with ;)      To make your own Summer Sleepover Set  just click on any of the project name links for the free step by step tutorial.    And when you are done,  I would love to see your projects!!!   You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  :)   I can't wait to see your Summer Sleepover Sets!!!

Tutorial Throwback Thursday - Double Take

This morning my calendar dinged and reminded me that I had a class for the Panguitch Quilt Walk.  I totally had to do a Double Take, as I had a moment of panic, before remembering that, of course, this even had been cancelled.  I have been doing a lot of that lately.   So many wonderful events have had to be cancelled, but I forget to take them out of my phone, so ya, moments of panic, followed by oh ya moments.  Which then normally leads to moments of sadness for missing all my friends, but this to shall pass ;)  So for today's Thursday throwback , I figured it was only fitting to share my Double Take quilt :)

Double Take  looks  hard, but it truly isn't.  It is made with two basic lattice blocks and then just sewing them into rows and and a quilt top.  I share my favorite minimal-waste method of making lattice blocks that also allow you to trim making the perfect points every time.     It finishes at 80" x 80" so it makes a great size for picnics or tailgates!!!     And there is even a printable version of this Double Take tutorial, so double bonus!!!!

Double Take  is all about big, bold, graphic design.  And the use of 3 Solid Colors just enhances that look!!!   I used Red, White, and Black in Bella Solids as this quilt was donated to my Alma Mater Southern Utah University.  But it can look amazing in any 3 color combo you choose ;)   And if you do want to make it a rally quilt like I did, you can see my Complex Layered Applique Tutorial for making a school logo to go in the corner of the quilt ;)

And when it came time to quilt Double Take I decided I wanted to enhance that bold geographic design with some straight line quilting.  The easiest way I have found to do this grid quilting is to load your quilt and do all the horizontal lines first.   Then unload your quilt and load it again only rotate it 90 degrees.   Then do all of your horizontal lines again, only this time, they will crosshatch the previous quilting lines you did ;)  It takes a minute to load and reload the quilt, but way faster than doing vertical lines in segments the width of your frame!   And you get a lot of steps in as well going back and forth and back and forth ;)

And that is my Double Take Quilt!!!     I hope you have enjoyed today's Tutorial Throwback Thursday as much as I have!!!    Summer is a great time to make this awesome quilt for someone going back to school in the Fall :)   To make your own Double Take quilt  just click on any of the project name links for the free step by step tutorial.    And when you are done,  I would love to see your Quilts!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  :)   I can't wait to see your Double Take Quilts!!!

Thanks for popping in today!!!   I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!
