Double Take - A Moda Bake Shop Quilt Tutorial

I am super excited to be sharing a new Moda Bake Shop Tutorial today as part of their Summer of Solids!!!  It's called Double Take and I have to say, I so just love it!!!!

Double Take is all about bold colors and a strong graphic design.  This is because it will be used for my Alma Mater's Homecoming celebration (once I add a custom layered applied logo to it)  and so I wanted to make sure it would appeal to college kids.  And I just love the way it turned out.

Double Take might look a little complex, but trust me, you are going to be amazed at how easy it is to put together!!!   Using lots of strip piecing and then a lattice template to trim, this quilt top goes together in a jiffy!!!  And it is so fun and easy to make!!!!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided it needed straight lines to add to the graphic nature.  So I loaded it in the long-arm and used the channel locks on the machine to keep the lines nice and straight ;)   I just randomly spaced the lines for a fun little effect.  Once I did all the horizontal lines, I reloaded the quilt the other direction, and once again, quilted random straight lines to give it the crosshatch effect ;)   Oh ya, 2 miles worth of walking back and forth on this one!!!

The backing of Double Take is a beautiful black and white print from Half Moon Modern.  I love that the quilting just blends away with it.  I bound it in my leftover red jelly strips and I just love its little pop on the back!!

So that is Double Take!!!  I hope you love it as much as I do!!!  You can find the complete and free Step by Step Tutorial on how to make this 80" x 80" stunner at the Moda Bake Shop, right here ;)    And if you make your own, I would love to see it!!!  Send me an email at or add it to my Flickr Group ;)  I can't wait to see what color combo's you use ;)

Thanks for popping in today!!!  Have a Happy Quilting Day!!!!
