GO! Up On The Housetop Quilt and Free Pattern!!!

I am so excited to share a new finish today!!! It's called Up On The Housetop and it just makes me so happy!!!  You all know how much I love Irish Chain Quilts . . . so when  AccuQuilt asked if I wanted to make a project using their new GO! Irish Chain BOB Die, I was all in ;)  There is a free PDF Pattern for this Up On The Housetop Quilt that you can download right here :)

Isn't it just so fun to see how AccuQuilt  posed this picture to see how festive it is just waiting by the fireplace.  I combined the GO! Irish Chain Die with the Chimney Sweep Die (hence where the name came from :) to create a fun secondary design between the chain.  And alternating the Red and Green blocks just makes it all the Christmas goodness!!

This quilt is a total scrap buster!!!   And ya know, I am always looking to bust more scraps ;)   I used Low Volume scraps in the backgrounds.   Then it was over to my Red Scrap Bin for the Chimney Sweep Blocks, and my Green Scrap Bin for the Irish Chain Blocks.   The fun thing about this, I didn't use just Christmas scraps.  Because you are breaking it up between red and green, you can use any scraps, so long as they read that color ;)   It makes for a super happy and scrappy quilt!!  Up On The Housetop finishes at 50" x 60" so it is will be a perfect lap size quilt for the Holiday Season.

And one of my favorite things about my AccuQuilt is how much faster is makes tackling scraps!!  It is just so fast to stack the scraps and then cut them all at once.  I just love it!!! .  And those Chimney Sweep Blocks go much faster without having to trim all the edges when it is done, everything just fits perfect!!    Below is a list of the dies I used, see which ones you already have in your die library and maybe add a few more ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I went with a happy all over swirl design.  I just love all of the curves and movement it adds to this super geometric quilt. And because it is so dense, it adds so much yummy texture as well.   Just so happy for snuggling in ;)

And that is my Up On The Housetop quilt.    I am just so excited to add another Irish Chain Quilt to the mix of my favorites ;)     I hope you love it as much as I do ;)And if you want to make your own, (in your favorite color)  you can download the free PDF Up On The Housetop Pattern Here.   And when you are done I would love to see it!!!    You can share a picture on social media with #happyquiltingwithmc and tag me at @happyquiltingmc or you can always email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com.  I can't wait to see your scrappy and happy Up On The Housetop quilts!!!

Oh, and fun little side note . . . if you want to see this shared on YouTube, you can visit the Die Launch video.  It is shared towards the end of the show at 44:55 minutes in :)  It is just so fun to see your projects loved so much, just makes me smile.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

  1. Is it possible to get the cutting instructions for this pattern, Up On the House Top, if you are not using an AcuQuilt cutter. Thank you. kclayton77@me.com

    1. So the blocks at 10" don't translate well to cutting without an AccuQuilt cutter. They are all in the 1/16th is realm :) I would recommend googling Irish Chain Block and Chimney Sweep Block at 12", they should work much easier at that size ;)

  2. What an adorable quilt! I love the low volume scraps, it really makes the rest pop. I have arthritis and looked at the Go’s but it’s all too expensive for me. Looks like they worked well in this quilt :)

  3. Hi Melissa, this is such a sweet adorable Quilt! I would love to make it. I do not own an accuquilt machine :-( not in my budget either, but if you could give us a general size for the pieces necessary I think I can figure it out.... Thank you always for sharing your inspiration
