I have had some very exciting mail in the last few days!!!  First up . . . my wonderful friends at AccuQuilt sent me a very special surprise ;)  Have you heard about this??

It's the new GO! Bolt Cutter!!! It is a light weight, easily portable, Electric Cutter!!!   I am so thrilled!!  This is just awesome for super fast cutting!!  It will also be oh so helpful when I am going to teach, I can pack this in with so little excess space and weight :)   The GO! Bolt is a special new addition to my AccuQuilt Cutting team!!!   And I have already worked on two secret projects with it, and can I just say . . . I love my GO! Bolt!!!

And another fun surprise in the mail box . . . my 2025 Spooky Box from Fat Quarter Shop arrived!!  I loved these Limited Edition holiday boxes!! (Which you just might be able to reserve the Jolly Box as of today)    They are always filled with so many wonderful fabrics, notions, and holiday tidbits.   You can see a few of those peeking out of the box!!   If you want to see the full reveal, just keep on reading :)

What an awesome Box of Halloween Quilting Goodness!!  The Hey Pumpkin Bundle is just so adorable.  I love "Cute" Halloween!!! And the Mug Rug Mats from June Taylor are just so fun.  Perfect for cups of Hot Chocolate after cold trick-or-treating ;)   And I just love my Mist Spray Bottles, and this Spooky Spray Bottle one is so fun :)  And spooky thread snips and a charming charm.  Just so great!!

$5 Pattern of the Month - Desert Rose!!!

It's a new month and a new $5 Pattern of the Month here at Happy Quilting!!!  And October is all about Desert Rose.  And it is just $5 all month long!!!

The  Desert Rose Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version and both versions will be marked down to $5.00 for the month October.   This is such a fun quilt to make and is a great technique builder for No Waste Flying Geese and Half Square Triangles.  It is rated Intermediate and is Fat Quarter friendly.

Desert Rose  has 5 size options.   Each fat quarter will be placed in three different blocks, one in the center ring, one in the middle ring, and one in the outside ring of piecing!

And like I said, this one is all about building your technique on No Waste Flying Geese.  Each block has 16 flying geese in it, so you make 4 sets of No Waste Flying Geese for each block.  So lots of practice on getting them to perfection.   And because the blocks are on the large side, once your units are made, the quilt really comes together quickly!

And there is also a lot of negative space in this quilt, with the background weaving all through the block.  Because of this, I choose to leave the prints unquilted, and really do dense quilting in the background.  It just makes the piecing pop all the more!!

And again, because there is so much background, you can really play up your background fabric choice.  You can use a low volume with lots of pop, or even have fun with a colored background.  It really makes the piecing shine!!

And that is my $5.00 Pattern of the Month!!!   October 2025 is all about the Desert Rose Pattern!!!   You are going to have so much fun making this quilt ;)   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your Desert Rose Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #desertrosequilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Desert Rose Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Pattern and get Happy Quilting!!!!

September Sew Sampler!!!

Okay, so September was a super amazing (super busy) month this year ;)  And it is so fun to have my favorite little Aqua Box arrive at the end of month!!!   It is like me Sew Sampler Box is the reward at the end of each month!!  This month's theme is Bees and Braids and it is just so awesome!!  I totally jumped for joy over the fabric this month!!

You See. . . .I have been in love with Sun-Drenched by Sweetfire Road ever since I drafted up this Stacked Squares lap quilt for Moda's catalog in this amazing line using a Fat Quarter Bundle!!   That was back in Dec 2024, so I have been "patiently" waiting for 9 months   Isn't it just so pretty!!!  I love all of the beautiful low volumes and they make the Navy and Gold just pop :)   Such a gorgeous line!!

So when I opened my Sew Sampler Box  to find a Sun-Drenched junior jelly roll, oh so happy day!!   And how stunning is that Dutch Braid Table Runner!!  I have been wanting to do a Dutch Braid project for sometime, and now, I am all set to go!!  Although, I might organize my colors a little more, so it is a little less random and a little more planned out :)

And the notions for this month are just awesome!!  Of course, we have the Jelly Braid Paper on a Roll, so ya know, I am super set to make this new project!!   And I love this little Quilt Project Book, such a great way to keep track of everything you are working on.   Which when you are working on over 10 projects at a time is super helpful!!   And I love this new Clover Seam Ripper!!  I am always telling my students, seam rippers get dull just like rotary cutters and it is always a good idea to replace them every once and a while.  This one will go in the line of rippers to use ;)   l

And were are on to block 6 of this Flowering QAL!!  Yippee, half way there ;)  I am using  50 Years of Moda!!!  And I might have totally missed making mirror images of my leaves . . . so that lead to some creative redesigning of the block layout.  So now I have more of a vine look than a flower, but I still like it and think it was a good save ;)  . I am just loving these Flowering Blocks!!

And that is September Sew Sampler Box.  Now another month to be patient :)

Thanks for popping in again.

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Ebb and Flow Quilt!!

Today I am so excited to share a new finished quilt with you featuring Ivy Reese by Deena Rutter that I was able to make for my wonderful friends at  Riley Blake Designs!!  This quilt is called Ebb and Flow  and I just think it is oh so beautiful!!  The Pattern is by Pieces from my Heart and it just looks amazing remade in these Ivy Reese fabrics ;)

The  Ebb and Flow quilt uses Fat Eighths  along with an accent and background fabric.  Isn't it just so pretty how the chain connected to all of the blocks just emphasizes all of those gorgeous prints!!  And I love that the border is done in the same accent fabric as the chain so it finishes up the edges of the chain just perfectly!  The quilt finishes at 77" x 77" so it is a great size to curl up with!

This Ebb and Flow  quilt is made with basic piecing.   And yes, those are some tiny squares in the chain, but no worries, they are strip pieced so they go together much quicker than they look!! It is great for experienced beginners and experts alike!!  And with the chain piecing, and large print piecing, you will have it whipped up in no time!!

Once I had made up the quilt top, it went off to Riley Blake where they quilted it up with this gorgeous all over curly, swirly design.  It really is fun to see what amazing things digital quilting can do, I would love to get to get this good with my free motion ;)  And yippee for yummy texture!!

And if you love this quilt as much as I do . . .you can make your own!!  There is an Ebb and Flow Quilt Kit available now and it even comes in a cute keepsake box!!  And yup, that is my quilt in the pictures for the kit!!  So fun :)

And that is my Ebb and Flow quilt!  And wow, I just love the pictures the team at Riley Blake takes!!  Aren't these just so pretty!!   It just makes me want to snuggle up with a good book in front of the fire place ;)

Thanks for joining me today and sharing in this new finish with me.  I actually got to see this finished quilt hanging at Garden of Quilts and now it is off to quilt market to hang at the Riley Blake Booth.   Just so fun!!!   Thanks for popping in today ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!

A Wedding, A Birthday, A Conference, Oh My!!

So sorry things have been a little quiet around here.  I just haven't had time to post, but it is all for wonderful things so no worries ;)  Saturday was Jessica and Trey's wedding!!!   It was such a beautiful day :)  I am so excited for these two and we are so happy to have Trey in our family now.

Then on Monday, our "Baby Girl" had a birthday.  So it was more happy celebrations!  She got Teddy Bear, Choo Choo Train PJ's from K Pop Demon Hunters (If you know, you know) and as you can tell, she was quite surprised!!  Gotta love Etsy for finding the best homemade in trend items :)

And then yesterday, I was able to do a trunk show and teach a class at the Southern Utah Textiles Teachers conference.   It was oh so much fun, and the ladies were just awesome!!   I had made Double Dutch Kits for everyone in class and they put together a pillow top with a Double Dutch block.  They turned out so cute!!!

So now today, I am finally catching up ;)  No where to be but home all day, with quite a bit of unpacking to do from both the wedding and the conference.  I would share a picture of my living room at the moment, but it is a little "too real".   But I have lots to share from the last two weeks, so stay tuned.

Wishing you all lots and lots of Happy Quilting!!!

Garden of Quilts!

This last week has been spectacular!!  I spent the entire week immersed in Quilty Goodness!!  Yup, last week was Garden of Quilts!!  And it was also crazy busy, hence why it has been so quiet on the blog for the last week ;)   I taught 8 classes over 4 days and just loved getting to meet so many amazing quilters and share my passion for quilting with them!!

Here I am on Day 1 of classes.  Thanks so Cindy Cloward for taking this picture, I was so busy, I hardly took any pictures, surprise, surprise.  I had 3 classes that were full at 24 people, and the other 5 were close to that, so I got to share my Quilting Designs - Patterns with lots and lots of new quilty friends!!

It is always so fun to see your designs done up in so many different fabric combinations.  Of course, I want to make all of the quilts again with new colors and themes!   And it was just great to teach so many new classes!!  I makes me all the more excited about the new patterns that just released as I got to see them all made into fun blocks in all of the fabrics!!  This was the last class.  One pic on the first day and one on the last, with a whole lot of quilting fun in between!!

And yes, we did make it to see the quilts hanging in the garden on the last day.  We had about 45 minutes until they closed, so we pretty much ran down through the gardens and then ran back as it started to rain. You can see lots and lots of pictures of all the beautiful gardens and quilts here on Instagram or Facebook.    And this is how we spent the evenings ;)  Putting our feet up, doing a little sewing and pressing in the hotel room, and get ready for another day of quilting fun!!

What a wonderful week!!!  I am already looking forward to next year's Garden of Quilts!!!

New Happy Quilting Pattern - Navigating the Stars!!

Today is our final new pattern day and it is all about . . . Navigating the Stars!!!   And this one has a fun little story of how it got it's name :)  This block design was inspired by an image of a rose compass on an old map.   I kept tweaking the design until I got to this.  At that point, I noticed that if I focused on the background fabric at the center of the block, I saw a star, which was my main goal.  But when I focused on the Print fabric at the center of the block, I saw a square cross, reminding me of the way the sails are always depicted on the Mayflower.   And I thought it was so cool that what started with old sailing maps, turned to stars and sails.   And what did they use to navigate . . . the stars ;)    And I just love the amazing secondary designs that pop out of this quilt, it really came together to be a super cool  geometric block!!

The  Navigating the Stars Pattern can be found in my Etsy Shop in both a Paper version as well as a PDF version.  And it is on Special for it's release with PDF Patterns at $6.00 and the Paper Patterns are $7.50!  The patterns are full color and the paper version is in book format.

Navigating the Stars  is an intermediate skill level pattern, as it has a lot of matching points!     The block is made with just stitch and flip corners, so the technique is super fast to pick up.  Then you just have to use a few pins to line up all of your pretty star points!!!   And when you put the blocks together, you get new secondary stars in the accent fabric that connects the blocks.  So fun!!!

This Navigating the Stars quilt is made with  Rainier by Jessica Rose for Moda and is the queen size.  I was instantly drawn to this fabric because it had the perfect colors to break up my quilt design into warms and cools.   I grouped the pinks, tans, and yellows and then the blues and greys and placed them every other block.  It really adds to the layout to go from sunny warm to stormy grey throughout.  .  And And we lived by Mount Rainier for a year back in our early married years, so there is that too!!    The quilt is Fat Quarter Friendly, and is so versatile it would look great in any fabrics, so you can grab a bundle and make it shine in your own way!!

And for the quilting, I did some more beautiful wavy arches.  I love to do this quilteing design when I have a "grid" in the quilteing.  There were a few places where I had to estimate where my grid was, but it was totally worth the guessing.  And I love how the little arches fit perfect in the center star, just so cool!!!   And ya, I think it totally adds to the nautical feel of this quilt :)   I just love it!!

And because it is all quilted in a grid, it adds so much wonderful quilty texture!!!   And doesn't this look like the perfect little reading nook.  My sweet neighbor let me take pictures in her yard.  I just wanted to see it pictured next to the warm earthy bricks, and it did just what I hoped it would, brining out all of those warm rich tones in the quilt!!

Navigating the Stars  like all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options so you can make whatever size quilt works for you ;)     The pattern has 6 size options :  Baby, Lap, Picnic, Twin, Queen and King.

And that is my new  Navigating the Stars quilt and Pattern!!!    I hope you enjoy making your own as much as I did making mine!!   And of course,  if you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to reach out to me ;)  And when you make your own Navigating the Stars Quilts I would love to see them!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media with  #happyquiltingwithmc and #navigatingthestarsquilt ;)  I can't wait to see your Quilts!!!

So are you ready to start making your Navigating the Stars Quilts???  Pop over to my Etsy Shop, to pick up your Patterns.   Again, PDF Patterns are just $6.00, the Paper Patterns are $7.50,  until September 9th :)    And while you are there, check out these other newly released  patterns that are also on the same special ;)  Always good to save on shipping!!
