Busting some Scraps!!

The Panguitch Quilt Walk is next week and I can't wait to go and teach!!!   I am also super excited that my daughter, Jessica, will be joining Barbara and I as she is now out of school ;)   She agreed to take a class with me, providing that it "wasn't to hard".   So I figured, you can't go wrong with Sawtooth Stars and Log Cabins ;)    We sketched it up in EQ8 and changed the layout slightly to make it a little more "modern".  Jessi and I discussed a lot of fabric options, and in the end we decided on an all neutral quilt broken out in lights and darks.

So that meant it was time to bust open the scrap drawers.   I was so happy to pull out some scraps from my brown, black, and grey drawers.   They were at the point where they would barely close ;)  We tag teamed the prep work, having Jessi press and me cut.   It really went pretty fast considering we were cutting all from scraps for a queen size quilt :)

And now, we are all set, and I can't tell you how excited I am to see this quilt come together when I see all of these awesome stacks!!!  It is just going to be amazing ;)    The only hard part now will be not starting until class next week.   I keep trying to justify to myself that  "I should just go over the process with Jessi of making 1 Star Block and 1 Log Cabin block."  But I know myself, if I start, I won't be able to stop, please tell me I am not the only one with this issue, tee hee hee.

So I packed this up in a project tote, and thank heavens for Alphabitties for keeping all the pieces straight.   Now I am just anxiously awaiting class.   I just love sewing with Jessi and Barbara, it is oh so much fun.   What a wonderful weekend it is going to be ;)

I hope you are all having a very Happy Quilting Day and hopefully get to sew with some friends and/or family as well!!

Adventure is Calling for a Square Dance!!

So remember when I shared the Mountain Lullaby quilt and said that I was trying to make more "mountain-ish" quilts for the Barbara and Bob's cabin.   Well I am super excited to add another one to the mix!!!   When I saw the new Adventure is Calling Line from Riley Blake Designs, I knew it was just perfect for another cabin quilt!!!   And combined with my Square Dance Pattern, it is just perfect :)

I mean, how can it not be perfect with these prints from Adventure is Calling!!!   Tents, Trees, Forest Animals, Stars, and Pennant Flags . . . and all in beautiful woodsy colors!!!  It is just so fun, I especially love the pops of orange :)

And I have been wanting to make a large version of my Square Dance Pattern for quite some time, and I just knew this fabric would be so great in it!!!   I loved the idea of just using a simple yet fun geometric designs for a cabin quilt, almost gives you the idea of plaid but a cool plaid  ;)  And I even made sure all my directions prints lined up, so no upside foxes or tents.   I don't normally worry about directional fabric, but this quilt design is an easy one to layout and make sure it is correct, especially because it is Jelly Roll friendly, so you don't have to worry about what direction you are cutting the pieces out either ;)

For the Pop fabric I used Shades Chocolate  and the background fabric is Shades Burlap.   I love the "texture" in the shades line.   It is a lot like grunge so no surprise that I tend to gravitate towards it.   And I just love how all of the print colors just pop on the light and ark brown, it really adds to the 3D illusion of this quilt.

I tried something new when it came time to quilt it.   I originally was planning to just do a large meandering stitch.  I haven't done simple meandering in some time and thought it would be perfect for this geometric design.    But after making the first pass, I thought it kind of looked like a trail through the woods.   So I decided to go back and echo the meandering to really make a "trail".   I just love how it turned out and echoing was so much fun.   It was just like following a trail just following the twists and bends in the way.  So fun!!!

I am just so happy with how this quilt turned out!!  And it is already at the cabin as we are enjoying this Memorial Day in the woods ;)    Three down, (I put my King Size Braided Irish Chain in Reunion Fabric on my bed :) down and 3 more "cabin" fabric quilts to go.    I can't wait to see what the next one is going to turn out like ;)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

School's Out!!

Today is the first official day of "summer" for my kiddo's, and they are so excited!!!  Me, I have mixed feelings about it, tee hee hee.   I love summer because we can spend so much time together and make lots of amazing memories, but the days just seem to slip by in the summer and ya, there is always less time to sew.   And speaking of less time . . . I have had a lot of bitter sweet moments lately as our oldest, Spencer Jacob Corry, Graduated!!!

And he Graduated 4 times!!!!   Ya, this kid has been busy :)    He graduated from Cedar High School as well as Success Academy.  Success Academy is a charter school that Spencer attended half of the day.  So Cedar High School in the morning (which is the same school his dad and grandpa went to, so great) , and Success in the afternoon.   Success is an Early College program, so he also graduated from Southern Utah  University, with an associates degree at the end of High School.   SUU is my Alma Mater, and because I served on the Alumni Board, I get to help with graduation and got to welcome him to the SUU Alumni right after he crossed the stage to get his diploma.  Yup, that was a tender moment for me!!!  And we are so super proud that while he was doing all of this rigorous education, he still made time for his beliefs, graduating from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Seminary Program.  4 Years and 4 Graduations, just Wow!!!!

And the big joke was, after 4 graduations, he now has 4 empty diploma cases.   Yup, there is going to be some happy mail for this kid as each of his diplomas arrive :)

What an amazing 4 years High School has been for Spencer and we are just so very proud of him!!!  He is now preparing to serve a 2 year Mission in Frankfurt Germany for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He leaves in July, so I am just soaking up all of the moments before he is gone for 2 years!!!   When he returns from his Mission, he plans to attend Southern Utah  University to get a bachelors in Biology and then go on to Medical School as he wants to be a Genetic Doctor.

Yup, all the emotions, and especially oh so very proud of this kid!!

We love you Spencer and are so excited for your next big steps in life ;)

Thanks for sticking with me through a more personal post today.  No quilts, but I just had to share this huge milestone for our son and our family ;)    For those of you who have gone through this, does the emotional rollercoaster get any easier with the next one??
