And now we can move onto another familiar block, the . . .

Using the cut squares and the Fancy Log Cabin Block Directions from Month 9 make your block.  There is just alterations in the directions, that you are using three color fabrics instead of 4.   The Fancy Log Cabin Block should be measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" unfinished.

Using the cut pieces and the Little Checkerboard Block Directions from Month 6 make your block.    There is just an alteration in the directions, that you are making 9 of the Four Patch Units and then laying them out in a 3 x 3 layout.    The Checkerboard Block should measuring 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" unfinished.

Using the cut pieces and the Sawtooth Star Block Directions from Month 1make your block.    The Sawtooth Star Block should be measuring 8 1/2" x 8 1/2" unfinished.

And now we can move on to the final block this month, and it is a new block, the . . .

Windblown Block

From your Month #11, Windblown bag, cut the fabrics according to page 1 of the supplemental cutting list.   I cut my squares 3" instead of the 2.875" and will trim.  **NOTE - There are a few errors on the cutting for this block.  You will need (2) Red Squares, (4) Pink Squares (6) Gold Squares and (4) White Squares.  This means you will not have enough of the pink fabric.  You can use a scrap of your own pink fabric or call customer service to have the pink fabric replaced ;)

Using the cut pieces and the Half Square Triangle Geese Block Directions from Month 1make 4 Pink/Red HST's from 2 sets of squares, make 4 Gold/Pink HST's from 2 sets of squares, and make 8 White/Gold HST's from 4 sets of squares.  Trim all the Half Square Triangles to 2 1/2" square as shown.

Layout 4 Sets of 4 Half Square Triangles as shown.  Place the right hand units onto the left hand units with right sides together.   Align and pin if desired.   Stitch a 1/4" seam along the edge of all the units.   Press the seams open on all 8 Row Units.

Layout 4 Sets of 2 Row Units as shown.  Place the Top Row onto the Bottom row with right sides together.   Align and pin the seams.   Stitch a 1/4" seam along the pinned edge, watching the Fabric V and Thread X again.   Press the seams open on all 4 Quarter Units.

Layout 4 Quarter Units as shown.

Place the right hand units onto the left hand units with right sides together.   Align and pin if desired.   Stitch a 1/4" seam along the edge of both sets of units.

Press the seams open.

Place the Top Row onto the Bottom row with right sides together.   Align and pin the seams.   Stitch a 1/4" seam along the pinned edge, watching the Fabric V and Thread X again.   Press the seam open.

And now we just need to sash the block.  Layout the 4 Sashing strips around the block as shown.

Place the two side sashing strips onto the block with right sides together.  Align the edges and stitch a 1/4" seam along the edge.  Press the seam allowances out towards the Blue Sashing Fabric.

Place the top and bottom sashing strips onto the block with right sides together.  Align the edges and stitch a 1/4" seam along the edge.  Press the seam allowances out towards the Blue Sashing Fabric.

And your Block is done and you have a Windblown Block that should measure 10 1/2" x 10 1/2" unfinished.

And now with the blocks all made, we can move onto . . .

This month there are only a few sets of Strip Sets to make so let's get right to it.

From Fabric 51 and 52 sew a 6 1/2" Strip Set together as shown.

From Fabric 57 and 58 sew a 6 1/2" Strip Set together as shown.

From Fabric 65 and 66 sew a 6 1/2" Strip Set together as shown.

From Fabric 67 and 68 sew a 28 1/2" Strip Set together as shown.

Bountiful Quilt Along - Release 2 - Wildflower & Center Blocks

Today is the second release of the Bountiful Quilt Along and I am just so excited with how this quilt is coming together!!!  This is Fat Quarter Shop's 10th Annual Charity Quilt Along and they are always my favorite :)  The 1st Friday of each month will be a new release for blocks and today are the Wildflower & Center Blocks.   And how cute are these blocks, and how big as well!!!

I am using Meadowmere for by Gingiber for my blocks.  I decided to make all of my tulips the same print, and I love how they play off of the red and black flowers below.   And all of that gold metallic in the stems just has me so happy.   I really think this is just going to be so chic when it is all done :)

So are you joining in with the Bountiful Quilt Along fun???   You can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $10.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  And I am super excited to say that even though it has just started,  Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL has already raised over $  45,000!!! The goal is $1000,000 which will allow for 16 wishes to be granted.  How awesome is that!!!  And Moda Fabrics and Fat Quarter Shop have joined to match up to $30,000 :)  So many amazing wishes :)

Be sure to share all of your Bountiful progress on social media with #bountifulqal and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for the Wildflower & Center Blocks for lots more Bountiful Inspiration!!!

Fast & Fun Lap Quilts - Bonus Quilt with Free PDF Pattern!!!

In celebration of my Fast & Fun Lap Quilts being newly released with C & T Publishing, I am sharing a brand new Bonus Fast & Fun Lap Quilt!!!   Here is Thunderbird and you can get the FREE PDF Pattern here ;)

Just like all of the Fast & Fun Lap Quilts, it is made with 1 Layer Cake and some background fabric.  (I used a treasured Persimmon Layer Cake and Grunge Paper background :)   And while this quilt might look a little complicated, it actually quite Fast & Fun to make, surprise, surprise!!!   The quilt is made with No-Waste Flying Geese, (which if you haven't made yet, you are going to love!!) and Half Square Triangles.  Those go together with some basic piecing of 20 blocks that are laid out in alternate rows to give you this amazing Thunderbird quilt.  It finishes at 60" x 72" so it is a great lap size quilt ;)

And you might have noticed in the first picture, this bonus quilt comes with a bonus pillow/mini quilt !!!  There wasn't quite enough leftovers in the Layer Cake to do a scrappy binding (like several of the quilts in Fast & Fun Lap Quilts ) but there was just enough to make this matching pillow/mini wall hanging.   And yes, the FREE PDF Pattern also includes instructions for this bonus :)

When it came time to quilt my Thunderbird quilt, I decided to to an all over echoed paisley design. I love how it adds so much movement to all of those crisp points. And if you love this design, I just happen to have a free Video Tutorial for creating this free motion quilting design on your home machine ;)  It's always fun to be Happy Quilting!!

I hope you love this Thunderbird quilt as much as I do and if you make your own (or any of the quilts from Fast & Fun Lap Quilts) I would love to see them! You can share your projects with me on social media with the hashtags  #happyquiltingwithmc and #fastandfunlapquilts and tagging @happyquiltingmc or email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com. I can't wait to see your Quilts!!

And one last note before I sign off . . . Just a reminder of The Fast & Fun Sampler Quilt Along that starts on Wednesday!!!

You can see all the details of this Fast & Fun Sampler Quilt Along in this post.   I can't wait to Quilt Along with each of you :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
