Quilt Top Finish = Bonus Project Decision

This week I have a lot going on in the sewing room, but not a lot I can show yet ;)  Good ol Market is fast approaching and that means secret sewing, but not secret for super long, so that is good!!!   I can share this sneak peek of a quilt top I finished up last week. It features Lollipop Garden Fabric by Lella Boutique for Moda.  Don't you just love those happy spring colors!!!  You know I especially love the purples :)    And on a side note, this is my first time trying the whole "quilt swirl" picture, and I have to say, they are a lot harder to swirl then they look.  Being honest, this picture was take number 5, tee hee hee :)

And now with the quilt top finished, I have an extra decision to make.  The quilt top used stitch and flip corners, so now I have a wonderful array of Bonus Half Square Triangles that I thought would make a cute little pillow to go with the quilt :) The only question is, what layout to do???    I played with a Giant Diamond, Straight Rows, Chevron, and Little Diamonds.    And of course, the possibilities go on and on :)

Do you have a favorite HST layout???  Help a girl decide :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Quilt Auction for Sew Much Hope!!!

I am super excited to let you all know that the Sew Much Hope Charity Quilt Auction is underway!!  The Quilt Auction Stars Here and will run through Saturday May 4th.   At 11 am that morning the quilts will be taken to the UQSM Quilt Show to the live Auction where they will finish on stage with a live auctioneer   (but no worries, you can call in your bid if you can't be there in person :)  Isn't that just so fun!!!   You can read all about the Sew Much Hope Charity here .  It warms my heart to be able to using my love for quilting to help such an amazing cause!!!

You wanna see the quilts that are being auctioned???  Oh, they are oh so fun :)  Each "celebrity" quilt was made with the same fabric that is being used for the Challenge Quilt at the Show.   It is Looking Forward by Jen Kingwell and I love how happy and bright it is.

I made my Back to Basics Quilt for the auction.  (Pattern in my etsy shop)  I love how the black background just makes those happy bright prints just pop!!!  The quilt measures 68" x 82" so it is a great size to wrap up in or use on a twin bed :)

And there are three other amazing quilts you can bid on as well.   Jenny Doan from Missouri Star Quilt Company made this gorgeous Disappearing Pinwheel Church Dash Quilt that measures 55" x 66".  I love the Lollies border on it!!!

Natalia Bonner from Piece N Quilt  made this super adorable Made With Love Quilt that measures 58" x 60".   And that straight line quilting just sets off this modern quilt!!

And Kaitlyn Howell from Knot and Thread   made this awesome Mod Diamonds Variation Quilt   that measures 66" x 71".  And I just love the movement in this one.

So that is the Sew Much Hope Quilt Auction, and I am tickled to see that the bidding has already started!!!    Quilters are just amazing in their love and generosity!!!   And how incredible is it that this charity is all about providing refugees with sewing machines to help foster self reliance, it just brings it around full circle!!!

I am so happy to be a quilter and among so many amazing quilters like you all :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Spring Break aka Why I haven't Sewn for a Week ;)

Yup, it has been a little quiet around here the last few days . . . and that is because last week was Spring Break!!!  An entire week with the kids out of school just itching for something fun to do.  And we sure had fun and got a lot done as well, double bonus!!!  We started the week off in Salt Lake visiting Grandma and Grandpa (my parents :)   My kids love the beach, and since there are no beaches in Salt Lake, we went to the next closest thing, the Aquarium ;)    The kids loved it!!!  But seriously, try to take a picture of 5 kids, standing still in a dark building when there are a million things to see . . . this is the best I got :)

The next day we did a little window shopping :)  Gardner Village was one of my favorite places to go growing up because I just loved how every little house (shop) was like a whole new world when you stepped inside.  Each place is unique and full of character and oh so much fun to find lots of hidden treasures inside. The girls loved that they were just starting to put out all the fairy homes for the woodland fairy festival!!!    But ya, my big kids favorite find . . . an elevator with furniture in it.   I think they could have ridden that elevator all day and been happy.   Well, that and feeding the ducks would have been a close second ;)

And then it was time to come home to Cedar City, and we just happened to bring Grandma (my mom pictured above) with us.   And when Grandma comes to visit, it always means big projects!!!  She is so amazing in that way.  Things that I have been procrastinating forever, she helps me whip out in a few days.   And this time, it was painting!!!  Kamryn and Jocelyn had gone through a paint peeling phase a while back (read mom gets really frustrated) and their walls were still showing the effects of that phase.   So it was time for a fresh coat.   And Kamryn picked (read with some persuasion from mom :)  this beautiful soft pink for her walls.  The color is called Rosy Outlook by Sherwin Williams, just fyi.

And we leaned towards this soft pink, because I started working on a new quilt at a retreat (yes, I actually got to take a class!!!)  for Kamryn's bed called Sweet Blend and I am using the beautiful bold colors of Amy Ellis's Wanderlust fabric for it.  I think that soft pink would be the perfect compliment to it ;)   And as much as we loved the Sunkissed by Spring quilt that has been on her bed for some time, it has been well loved, and is ready to be changed out for something a little more young lady than young girl ;)  I think this is going to work perfectly!!!

And after finishing up Kamryn's room, we moved into Jocelyn's room.   And she loves purple!!! Wonder where she gets it from ;)    So we choose two beautiful shades called Teaberry and Rosebay and went to work.   And remember how I said my mom is amazing at doing things I have procrastinated . . . Ya, it has driven me nuts that their beds were ivory and their moldings were white, but I wasn't about to tackle painting two bed frames.   Mom to the rescue, not only did we paint two rooms we also painted two bed frames.   And they are so pretty and perfect!!!!

And even though Jocelyn Sister's Choice  quilt still matches these walls, I think it is only fair she gets a new quilt as well.   And I am thinking these gorgeous prints from Bungalow by Kate Spain.   Won't that just make the softest quilt to go with these more bold colors on the wall.   And then a new curtain in one of those floral prints . . . It's gonna be so good.

Now I just need to decide what quilt pattern to make for Jocelyn's bed . . . so many choices ;)   Anyone have a favorite Fat Eighth pattern that would be perfect for a 8 into tween years ???

So ya . . . all in all, an amazing spring break with lots of fun and oh so much productivity in the home, which of course, makes me so very happy.   But today, it's time to get back to some sewing, I have missed my machine and it is calling my name ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!1

Threadology QAL - Fair and Square Block

It's the 17th of April, and ya, I am two days late posting this.   I went out of town for Spring Break and realized a little late that my block pictures were still home on my laptop (that I didn't think to bring, tee hee hee :)   So here it is, better late than never, the sixth block  release of the Threadology Quilt Along hosted by the Fat Quarter Shop!!!!  And the blocks are the Fair and Square Block, and they are just so fantastic!!!!

So here are my 3 of the large blocks.  You might recall from my first post, I am doing a different setting that will use 3 Large an 6 Small blocks of each.   These blocks were a lot of fun to make, and went together in a snap!!  And I had so much fun choosing all of the fabrics for the large and small blocks :)

So are you joining in the Threadology fun???  If so, you can download the block pattern right here and it is requested for each pattern you download to donate $5.00  to the Make a Wish Foundation :)  This is Fat Quarter Shop's annual charity QAL and they are so close to the stretch goal of  $20,000 that Fat Quarter Shop and Moda will match.  So let's help them reach that goal ;)

And while making your blocks . . .  like always, Fat Quarter Shop has made an awesome  You Tube video tutorial that walk you through making this month's blocks and Kimberly will share some awesome some helpful hints  :)

Be sure to share all of your Threadology progress on social media with #threadologyquiltalong and check out Fat Quarter Shops post for Block 6 for lots more Fair and Square Block Inspiration!!!

And that's it for the Sixth block in the Threadology Quilt Along!!!!  There are only two more sets of blocks to go, this QAL is going by so fast!!!  But it's never to late to join in the Threadology Quilting Along?? We are having so much fun!!!
