Yes, even the little ones get in on the fun, although I think the baby just wants to eat the book. (My middle child was sleeping in this particular morning :) Reading time . . . A little slice of heaven. I would be joining them but somehow the book I was reading seems to have grown legs and walked away (I fear the 3 year old has something to do with it :)
Our library program this year asked the kids to keep track of their minutes but didn't have any type of form to track them on. I guess they were just supposed to write them down. We'll for my kiddos, half of the fun is getting to mark off that you have read, so I whipped up these little reading charts. (yes, I need to get new fridge magnets :) I have put the template into Google documents, so if you find yourself needing a Summer Reading chart you can find one here. (they mark every 10 minutes of reading)
What great photos of the kids and I love your charts...
ReplyDeleteIsn't it lovely when kids enjoy reading!!! All my grandkids do too...
Build good readers and you'll build good students and a life long skill that will always bring joy. Wonderful to see young ones reading!
ReplyDeleteMy 42 year old son is still wearing a bathrobe his Grandmother made for him when he was in middle school! You can imagine the shape that thing is in but it's comfortable for him so who really cares?
So glad to see children read books that are books! And the last picture shows how patient they can be with a younger one...she's not even bothered by the baby reading also.
ReplyDeleteYou just made me go through niece/nephew withdrawal. What a bunch of cuties!
ReplyDeleteI love the pics of the kids reading!! those charts are great. hope you find your book ;-)
ReplyDeleteToo funny. I remember those years. I had a mandatory hour reading/quiet time after lunch every day. I felt that the sitter needed a break by then.
ReplyDeleteWe're off to the library today (the third time in two weeks) for MORE books - I can't keep my kids in books! Good thing we don't buy them, or there'd be no money for food! Love to see kids reading - it's so good for them (and for me!)
ReplyDeleteMy 3yo is the same way about pjs - fleece Christmas footies in June! The 6yo only wears one pair - the last one I sewed for her. So it's my fault if she's not dressed for the season. She just started reading on her own so I am looking forward to lots of quiet reading time this summer!
ReplyDeleteHee hee, I remember having a strange attachment to outgrown jammies and t-shirts too!
ReplyDeleteI remember when I was growing up the summer trips to the library and getting my six books and devouring them was my favorite part of summer.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the reading charts! Exactly what I was looking for. Our library program has them log reading time online, but I needed something a bit more hands-on and portable to camping sites, grandparents, and road trips. These are perfect! Totally with you on the pajama front!! If I gave my 4 yr old a choice, he'd wear his $1 clearance Phineas and Ferb PJ's to church and wear them all week til the next Sunday! He'll probably wear them as knee knickers should a grow spurt ever happen :) So no worries, we're right there with ya'll!!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see them reading! Just pack away those old pajamas so they have no choice in the end, but to wear the new ones =D
ReplyDeleteI agree with the hubs- sometimes you have to choose your battles. The kids look great and most importantly they are READING!!! As a wanna be librarian/author (both of those are wanna be) I love seeing kids read.
ReplyDeleteI'm cracking up at your fridge magnets LOL!! I love the summer reading programs too - great motivator even with very small prizes! Thanks for the chart!
ReplyDeleteThose summer reading programs sound like a great idea. Your children are adorable :)
ReplyDeleteTotally brings back memories of the library programs I did as a kid... highlight of my summer each and every year!
ReplyDeleteLook at those little readers! My kids also love their worn out wintery jammies, I don't know how they sleep all bundled up in the middle of summer, but hey, I figure they'd wear something else if it bothered them.
