  1. My family is deeply entrenched in the "OMG, please don't make me sing, it will be awful" camp. That said, I could play Brahm's Lullaby as soon as I learned where the keys were on the piano. My fingers and ears just knew how that one went. Funny how our very early music memories stick with us.

  16. My kids loved to have me sing to them, but I wasn't very good. I found that I could get a melody going with Emmy Lou Harris' version of "The Boxer". To this day it brings back good memories for them, my son even had us dance together to that song at his wedding! The lyrics aren't all that great as a kid's story, but the "lie de lie, lie di lie" were good to sing along to and enjoy.

  17. Unfortunately, I was not gifted with a good singing voice but I do like the lullaby "Hush, Little Baby." I remember that song from the movie, "The Miracle Worker," where Annie Sullivan sings that to Helen Keller.

  28. It's unusual, but our babysitter when I was growing up would rock her grandbaby (she kept lots of kids at her house) and sing "At the Cross" to him. I sang it to my children and sing it to my grandbabies now. Also, they loved the old hymn "He Keeps Me Singing." ;)

  49. I think it is lovely to be able to sing lullabies but truth be told my singing is like a cat screeching and in fact it is so bad that if I ever wanted the children to stop fighting in the back of the car all I had to do is threaten to sing and there would be complete silence and harmony immediately.

My mom had 4 kids (she is an amazing lady, born with only one hand, very beautiful, perky and she still is. she made us dresses and she went skiing, and made lace) so we had for a few years when we were tiny, a german maid, Gertrude, She was a doll and I remember her so well.
She loved to dance in the house with me.
She used to sing this song every single night:
Guten Abend, gute Nacht, mit Rosen bedacht, mit Näglein besteckt, schlupf unter die Deck:
Morgen früh, wenn Gott will, wirst du wieder geweckt, morgen früh, wenn Gott will,
    wirst du wieder geweckt.
    Guten Abend gute Nacht,
von Englein bewacht, die zeigen im Traum
dir Christkindleins Baum: Schlaf nur selig und süß, schau im Traum's Paradies,
schlaf nur selig und süß, schau im Traum's Paradies.

I can still sing it. It was I think... written by Johannes Brahms, one of my favorite composers

  96. "Circle GAMES" by Joni Mitchell.
Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look behind
    From where we came
And go round and round and round
    In the circle game.
