Hello all. So, if you have been around here for any time . . .you know that I love to do
Quilt-A-Longs, and it has essentially become an annual thing. Last year, we did the
Irish Chain Twist Quilt- A-long to co-inside with my Irish Chain Quilts book release, and while I wanted to repeat that timing this year, Spring got a little busy and this month is going to be no different with Market fast approaching.
So what do you say to a Summer Quilt-Along?? (or would you rather wait until Fall??) Both are totally doable. If we did Summer, we would go slower than we normally do so that if you are on vacation for a week or whatever you will still have time to get your weekly assignment done . . . I am thinking maybe Bi-weekly assignments. What do you think??
Also, I have a few sketches and some basic plans in the works . . .but I want to make sure I include what you want to do??? So is there any particular skill that you want to learn in this Quilt Along?? Do you want to see a particular design concept, ie . . .I always love stars ;) Do you want to do a block quilt, or a medallion quilt, or maybe some random layouts??
Here's your chance . . . What do you want to get out of this years annual Happy Quilting Quilt-A-Long???
I suspect that many may not agree, but... I think a paper pieced quilt would be really fun! I'm retired, so timing isn't an issue for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree.
DeleteA summer quilt-a-long would be fun and bi weekley.
ReplyDeleteI've never made a medallion quilt - that would be great! Slower pacing is also a plus.
ReplyDeleteI've always wanted to do a lone star, a lemoyne (sp?) star.... Medallion might be a little major to me but you are excellent at your tutorials. I'm open to what works for you. You do 10 times the amount of work, photography, describing, measuring, multiple layouts, multiple sizes, colors, prints, organizing sales with FQS, etc...it's big. It's not as easy for you. So be sure to give yourself enough time too.
ReplyDeleteQuilt along! Quilt along! Quilt along! :D I would prefer summer, but I'm having a baby this summer so maybe fall would be more practical. BUT I'm also planning on a VERY low key summer so I still say summer. I'd love a block style quilt or a medallion. I think some good old fashioned brainless chain piecing would be good for my pregnant/baby brained self. I love that you always give us so many options for quilt alongs!! I just want motivation to start and finish a quilt, and quilt alongs really help with that!!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to do a Medallion Quilt. That is on my Quilt Bucket List!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to try a medallion quilt and this summer would be great.
ReplyDeleteThis would be my first Quilt-a-long so I am game for trying anything (and I'm a new quilter so its ALL new to me!)
ReplyDeleteI'm itching to try a bargello quilt but I don't know how well that would work in a Quilt-a-long.
CynJ, Elm Street Quilts has just finished a bargello quilt along, (I joined in and it worked really well) but all the posts are still available.
DeleteI'd like to make a medallion quilt this summer.
I would love a summer medallion qal.
ReplyDeleteI'm voting for biweekly summer medallion quilt!
ReplyDeleteI'm just learning to quilt, so I would be interested to see what you choose.

ReplyDeleteMy vote is for a bimonthly summer medallion quilt along!

ReplyDeleteYes please! I would love to do a medallion quilt, and am pretty open to summer or for! Can't wait to see what you come up with.

ReplyDeleteAnother vote for a medallion quilt. Summer would be great!
ReplyDeleteI so want to join in, but have another hand surgery coming up, so I may have to watch and then join late if you do summer. I'm up for anything, I've enjoyed the ones in the past.

ReplyDeleteRandom sounds fun. I think I may have my hands full until the fall. I'm doing the splendid sampler....twice, just finishing my Gypsy Wife and chomping at the bit to start Gene pool, another Jen Kingwell quilt.
ReplyDeleteI am adding another vote for a summer medallion quilt along!!!
ReplyDeleteI loved the Irish Chain QAL!! Super excited for another one. A medallion quilt would be awesome. Bi-weekly over the summer sounds great!
ReplyDeleteSummer QAL! And a fun and different layout (medallion or random) would be so great! I am excited to see what you are going to prepare for us!!
ReplyDeleteI love your Quilt Along and love the quilts I have made with you. Stars are beautiful, Whatever you choose will be perfect.
ReplyDeleteFall please!!!
ReplyDeletea summer medallion quilt! you have to do a lot of work to make this happen for all of us, so again, make it easy on yourself !
ReplyDeleteI would love to make a medallion quilt too. this sounds great!
ReplyDeleteFor me, summer would probably be better and I agree that every two weeks is better. I also like the idea of a medallion quilt. I tend to have trouble getting pieced borders to fit perfectly--maybe you can help me!
ReplyDeleteThanks for working so hard for us!
One more vote for medallion :) Please and thank you.
ReplyDeleteI'd love a medallion too! Timing doesn't matter too much for me, I'm happy to catch up in my own time. I finally started the Star Surround (QAL?) a month ago! I'm planning to finish it before starting anything new 😃
ReplyDeleteI am so busy right now with other quilting projects (why does EVERYONE have to have a baby at the same time (7!!!) but I will try to join as long as it is not a paper piece or an applique. I have lots of charm packs (2 1/2 inch wide)so....something using them would be nice.
ReplyDeleteI also vote for a medallion. I've never made one. Paper piecing is not a favorite of mine.
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of a summer quilt along. I love to learn anything about quilting. I notice some have said no paper piecing or applause. I'd love to try both. Or maybe an idea for using scraps I'm up for just about anything but am new to quilting so it needs to be doable!

ReplyDeleteLet's do fall because there are so many going on right now and some will end up by then. Whatever you do, I'm in. Your tutorials are great and I love your excitement! Thanks Melissa.
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt-alongs and would love to see one in the summer. This has been a busy spring for us with a wedding coming up and I'm looking forward to some quilty fun!! And bi-weekly sounds good!
ReplyDeleteA summer quilt along would be great, I'm already behind on a spring paper piecing quilt along, lol. I have never done a medallion so that would be fun. I'm also up for an Irish Chain that isn't in your book (I have it and love it!!).
ReplyDeleteI had SO much fun, and learned a lot, in your Twisted Irish Quilt Along! I guess I wouldn't be "scared" if you planned a Medallion Quilt Along... biweekly in the summer would work. I love how you give us the different size options, and are still able to participate making something smaller in scale.
ReplyDeleteSusie
I'd be interested in a summer quilt along. I am interested in trying a medallion quilt. I enjoy your tutorials, so anything would be fun.
ReplyDeleteI would love to do another quilt along with you! Summer would be great. I would also love a medallion quilt, but all your quilts are fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI (not considering myself a pro-quilter) would be interested in a learning process and I have not attempted a Medallion - but Summer bi=weekly would give me more time to keep up.
ReplyDeleteEither summer or fall would be fine for me, and I like the idea of a medallion QAL. Thanks for asking!
ReplyDeleteSummer medallion quilt please! Quilt-alongs are so much fun! Thank you!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like folks are liking the idea of Summer medallions! I, too, have always wanted to do a Lone Star (can they be scrappy?) The one my gramma made is threadbare! Love your chains, by the way. My one desire is that it will work well scrappy. Is anyone else working through about 50 years of "Gosh, that piece of fabric about two threads wide ought to work somewhere?" Thank you so much for asking for input.
ReplyDeleteDo a summer and fall quilt alongs. Stars and chains. 24Tangent@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteSummer medallions seem to be the winner so far in the comments. You know me, I'm happy just quilting along with you. I always learn something new! I would prefer summer, being a homeschool mom, but whatever and whenever I will make it happen.
ReplyDeleteI love the look of love the look of crazy quilts-but paper piecing is good too. I did the qal last year and loved the not so precise measuring, as a new quilter I found that it really helped me to relax and enjoy the process.
ReplyDeleteOh yes, yes, yes!! I just got my craft room finished and am itching for a new project. :)

I just love your quilt alongs. Still need to finish last year's but I'm up for another one. Summer and biweekly would be great! I've been interested in a medallion quilt lately - maybe this will be the one. Thanks for all you do in the quilting world and for sharing your talents with us. Your blog is my go-to quilting blog. I just love it.
ReplyDeleteI vote for medallion quilt, thanks!
ReplyDeleteYes!!!! I've been waiting for you to post this!!! Summer (winter in Australia) would be fantastic, and a huge yes to biweekly! I would love love love to do something like a wedding ring quilt, but it looks like medallion as already won! Could we add a tiny, insy winsy bit of paper piecing in it?? Or a few y seams? Pleaaaasssee? Something a little out of my comfort zone would be fantastic!! Thanks again!! Now I'm really excited for this winter!! At least I'll be able to make a lovely quilt with you!
ReplyDeletePS your qal are my absolute favorite!!
A wedding ring quilt is almost like a chain, right?! ;)
DeleteI like summer, and medallion also. Maybe the center could include the options that some have asked for -applique, paper piecing, foundation piecing, and/or blocks? Thank you for offering this and for asking for input in the planning stage! Awesome!
ReplyDeleteSummer and medallion is my vote! What has always amazed me was how you calculate the various borders and figure out what works and what doesn't. Thanks for offering to organize yet another wonderful QAL!
ReplyDeleteI might join :)
ReplyDeleteI would love to make a medallion quilt :))
ReplyDeleteI've never done a quilt-a-long, but I would love to. I have a few projects lined up and some classes I've signed up for, but who cares!! Let's go! LOL
ReplyDeleteI look forward to my gardening every summer - all those fresh veggies - yum! I even enjoy weeding!
ReplyDeleteI follow the FQS on Pinetrest. Lots of great eye candy there!
ReplyDeleteDid your quilt along last year and LOVED it. Will do another one. Cant wait.
ReplyDeleteSomebody suggested a medallion quilt, and I love that idea, I've never done one. :)
ReplyDeleteSummer! I'm in!!! 😃
ReplyDeleteA medallion would be cool! :)
ReplyDeleteSummer, bi weekly or even just once a month.
ReplyDeleteBargello style.
Or similar pattern to cut and piece using those "big" prints...
I have a few novelty fabrics that are gathering dust:)
i think a summer bi-monthly qal would be fun. i would love to do a fat qtr friendly one(i have a closet full of fat qtrs).
ReplyDeleteI think a summer quilt along would be great
ReplyDeleteSandy
I love the idea of a summer quilt along! I am bound and determined to make it happen with you this summer so bring it on. I think it would be fun to do a "back to the basics" quilt like a sampler quilt or something. I have always thought that they are so beautiful and pretty :) Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what you come up with!!!!
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt alongs!
ReplyDeleteI do adore paper-piecing and stars!
I think it would be great to do another of your Irish Chain quilts, too.
Okay, I have to be honest, I've never done a quilt along, but I've always WANTED to do one. Since I'm a full-time working (@ school) mom, I don't generally have the time to quilt much during the school year, nevermind at regular intervals. I would JUMP on the chance to do a summer quilt along. I would prefer a faster pace, but bi-weekly would work. I'd also love to do a medallion quilt and have also never paper pieced, so maybe something combining the two? I'm happy to do just about anything! :) Looking forward to it!!
ReplyDeleteI'm on board for anytime, any type of quilting. I have lots to learn and a lot of fabric to make into something beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSummer, Medallion, and every other week. I know weekly sounds do-able, but somehow, the weeks zip by and the week is gone before I know it!!! :-) Thanks for hosting!!! You are just too good!! by the way, Happy late Mother's day: I hope it was great!!! Hugs, your friend Helen
ReplyDeleteI vote for a medallion, but a slow Fall would be nice. Joyce
