ReplyDeleteMy goodness, I could tell a very long story, but I'll try to make it short. My grandmother had an angel that she put on the tree every year. We call it the ugly little angel; and every year someone in the family would gift her a different tree topper. None of the tree toppers ever made it onto her tree, it was always the ugly angel. About 5 years after my grandmother passed away, my father gave me the angel as a Christmas present. That ugly little angel is the most beautiful tree topper I've ever had, and will continue to grace the top of my tree until I pass it on to my daughter or granddaughter. ;-)

ReplyDeleteI have a very old pixie that I remember being on our Christmas tree when I was a child - I am 52 now. He is very worn and his plastic inner has pushed through his felt feet and some of his white edging has come off around his hat but I still love him. I inherited him when my Mum passed away a year ago and he will always be a special decoration on our tree. The rest of the tree is largely covered by Hallmark Christmas ornaments. My husband and I (and now my daughter) choose one every year and we try to pick one that reflects the past year or means something to us. We have been doing this since 1998 so our collection is building.

ReplyDeleteMy husband and I were married in 1972. We were young college students who eloped. We struggled so with finances that first Christmas. I managed to find a tree and the secretary in the Nursing Department where I worked on Work Study offered to let me borrow some of her unused lights and ornaments. I found a cardboard and fabric angel as S.S. Kresge's on sale for 99 cents. I was so proud of that silly thing and it's been our tree topper for the past 43 years. Struggling is past--the kids are grown and grandkids now bless our lives....but it's a reminder of how far we've come and how little things can mean so much. Thanks for a chance to win.
ReplyDeleteWhile the stuffed fabric ice cream cone that my DH of 35 yrs. bought before we married is, of course, special, my sentimental favorite is a Hobo dog with a knapsack riding in the basket of a hot air balloon.
