  1. My Favorite Christmas tradition: My husband gets to dress up as Santa at his work. I have pictures of the kids at different ages sitting on his lap. They think its awesome that daddy is Santa's helper!

  3. My favorite Christmas tradition has to be the family get-together. We always follow the same schedule...arrive at brother's house in mid-afternoon, gather for a family photo, distribute and open presents, have dinner, then friends come over to join our family for a huge dessert buffet.

  26. Think my favorite Christmas tradition is stockings. These stockings have always been filled with treasures packed in reusable fabric bags. How Santa can find the bags year after year in his workshop and bring the same ones back to our house, I'll never know. Perhaps a very well organized elf is at play?

  66. My husband decorates the little Christmas tree that he bought when he was just a kid about 40 years ago (think Charlie Brown tree) and we put up the lights and the little ornaments on it - most of which are the little shrinky-dink ones he did as a kid.

  92. We always read the Nativity from Luke 2. Before our children had the nerve to grow up and leave home, they got dressed in their Christmas PJs. Then they got to open one present, just one. There was such love and magic in those precious evenings! I would do those childhood years all over again if I had the chance!

  108. our family traditions are changing now that our daughter is in another state and our son is now married. But what has not changed is, we go to Christmas eve service. when we come home we have pizza and cake (I used to make a lamb cake) Christmas day we all get together as family and spend the day together. As for my daughter we call her and pass the phone around.

  111. Favorite Christmas tradition started by my parents is putting a wrapped book under our kids beds after they go to sleep Christmas Eve. Then they have something to unwrap first thing in the morning- and hopefully stay in bed reading for a bit. Kids are all grown now but still give them books for Christmas. I think they will pass it on to the grandkids when they get a little older.

  121. My favorite Christmas tradition is baking cookies with my father. He remembers making them with his mother when he was 6, so he has been making them for 80 years (one at a time on the stove in a cast iron waffle iron, a slow process). Each cookie is a special treat.

  135. Favorite tradition, it would have to be driving around on Christmas Eve to look at lights. The funny thing is, it started when our kids were young and we used the driving time to get them to fall asleep. As they got older, they HAD TO go look at lights. Fun memories :)

  164. My favorite Christmas tradition is the entire extended family gathering together on Christmas Eve. There is a huge potluck, presents for all the kids and of course now the grandkids. This celebration then sells the individual families to have a quiet Christmas with church the next day.

  172. My family always has homemade Tex Mex food, enchiladas, rice, tamales on Christmas Eve. It's something my maternal grandparents started way back before my mom was born. I learned how to make all our family favorites when I was younger, so I carry on that tradition with my children. I even have my great grandmother's huge metal spoon to stir the sauce!

  173. We watch the Torchlight Parade down Dollar Mountain at Sun Valley, then enjoy cookies, hot chocolate and carolers dressed in 19th Century finery. Everyone is in a festive mood and strangers exchange Merry Christmas wishes to all they pass by. Then home for a Christmas Eve meal, and time with family!

  178. I gave my son a Terry's Chocolate Orange in a stocking one year. Turns out he doesn't like them. Another year I had forgotten he didn't like them and gave him another one. We had a good laugh over it. I kept it and gave it to him again the following year, as a joke. He didn't know whether I had lost my mind; the look on his face was priceless. So I keep it in a cupboard and put it in his stocking every year for a laugh. It's a quirky favourite but now it's tradition.
