AccuQuilt Black Friday all Week and GO! Me Giveaway!!

So you all know I am loving sewing all of the curves with the easy cutting of the AccuQuilt Curved Dies.  I had a lot of questions and interest in curved sewing, cutting, and dies after sharing my Nine Patch Fun Quilt, Winding Ways Quilt, and Flowering Snowball Quilt.  And a lot of you mentioned that just like me, you have a lot of these classic curved sewing quilts on your bucket list!!

So I wanted to let you know (enabler alert :)  that AccuQuilt is staring their Black Friday Deals early, and you can get 20% off all GO! Dies starting today!!!   And of course, there are endless selection of Dies, not just the Curved Dies, they are just my favorite ;)

Also, if you have been thinking that you want to try some Curved Dies, or any AccuQuilt Dies for that matter, but don't have a GO! Fabric Cutting System, they are on a Black Friday Deal as well :)   So it's a great time to buy if you were considering this amazing cutting tool.   I shared all about my GO! Fabric Cutter here, and I have been using it for a year now and just love it!!!

And along with these and other early Black Friday Deals, AccuQuilt is also hosting a GO! Quilt for a GO! Me Giveaway!!!   GO! Quilt is AccuQuilt's free program that allows you design your quilt with your chosen fabrics and see what it will look like before you make the first cut.     This is such a cool program for taking the guess work out of choosing fabrics.    You can see all about the GO! Quilt free program here and the GO! Quilt for a GO! Me Contest here :)   Good luck and have fun designing those quilts!!

As for me, I am planning on taking advantage of this pre- Black Friday sales and adding some GO! Cubes Companion Sets (which are on a Black Friday sale!) for Jessi's Sampler project and maybe another curved die or two will slip into my cart as well  ;)   I can't help it, curves are just fun!!!

So if you were one of those folks that emailed me interested in the curved dies, I hope this little enabler alert is helpful ;)

And now, I am off to do a little quilting!!
I hope you have a very Happy Quilting day!!

3 More Projects Added to the Mix

I am super excited to be starting some new projects!!!  Don't you just love getting  a new pattern and finding just the right fabrics for it :)  Envisioning what it is going to look like when it's all done!!  It is just so fun!!!    And I got to play in my fabric stash 3 times this week for 3 new projects, triple bonus!!!

First off, I raided my stash of black and white scraps and threw in a solid red for a new quilt from my good friend Andy Knowlton's new Fresh Fat-Quarter Quilts book.    I am super excited for this project ;)   The quilt will make an awesome Rally quilt, which of course, is why it is in classic Red, White, and Black.  Yup, this one is destined to get an SUU logo and be donated next year ;)  I got this all cut out on Tuesday and started some stitching on it yesterday and I am already just thrilled with how it is coming together.  Can't wait to share more on this in a couple of weeks!!

Next, I agreed to get in a Pillow Fight this week and I will explain more on that in the future.  But for now, I am super excited to pull my color/white squares off the shelf.  I sorted these squares separately when I was starting to work on my Scraptastic Stars Quilt.  They all read a white background with a color and I figured they would make a cool project someday.   And I excited to see them in a pillow from Edyta Star's new Pillow Talk Book :)    I am thinking patchwork rainbow, eeekk!!

And lastly, my sister called and asked if I could make her a "baby dragon girl" quilt.   And of course, I love my sister so I said yes, even though I had absolutely no idea what I was going to make.   So I searched baby dragon images and found this adorable little sketch.   Cue the Layered Applique.   And with all the applique, I knew I wanted to use a basic fabric, and I found these Riley Blake Shades in my stash.  And I think they will be just the perfect amount of solid with some texture to make these dragons.   This is going to be so cute!!! Here is hoping I can make what is in my mind work out ;)  Wish me luck!!

So that is what I am going to be working on this weekend :)

What are you going to be Happy Quilting for the next few days??

Tutorial Throwback Thursday - Quilted Recipe Binder Cover!!!

It's Thursday and that means another Tutorial Throwback feature. This week is all about getting ready for the big Turkey Day and that means food and lots of it.  I always love cooking for Thanksgiving because it means I am cooking and baking with family!!  Something about having my mom, my sisters, and my daughters all bustling around the kitchen, it just warms my heart.    So today, I thought it would be perfect to share my Quilted Recipe Binder Cover tutorial for our throwback because it is what I keep all of my favorite family recipes in ;)

If you are like me, you most likely have all of those "loose" recipes given to you by family or friends or torn out of a magazine, or more appropriately today, printed off from some online recipe site ;)   Well, I got tired of them all being stuffed and folded in a box, so I put them in a binder in sheet protectors, but that binder was boring.    So I came up with this cute Quilted Recipe Binder Cover to make my favorite Recipe Binder super special :)  And it is oh so fun to make, and super easy!!!

There is a free pattern download for it along with some helpful hints in pictures a la tutorial style ;)      Because seriously, these little Quilted Recipe Binder Cover's make wonderful gifts.    I have given several for bridal showers and they are a perfect treasure for a new bride getting ready to start out her own cooking traditions.    You really can't make just one!!

The covers slip right over a 1 1/2" binder and then all you need is some sheet protectors and you have a great way to store all of your loose recipes.   And you only need 2 Charm Packs (You know how I love Charm Packs!!) and a little yardage to make the binder.   And of course, you can totally use this as a scrap buster project as well!!!

And this is another Quilted Recipe Binder Cover that I made from Bonnie and Camille's Happy Go Lucky fabric that I actually kept for myself.   I just pulled it down from the shelf this morning and snapped a quick pic.   And as you can see, it still looks nice and clean.  That's not because I have never spilled on it, but because when I do inevitably spill, I just pull the cover off and throw it in the laundry :)   So great!!!    And this little book is going with me next week to my Mom's for some Thanksgiving cooking and baking goodness :)   It is  kind of crazy, but there will most likely be at least 12 pies, gotta love pie making day!!!

Tutorial Throwback Thursday - Top Spin!!!

It's Thursday and that means another Tutorial Throwback feature.  And this week I have felt like I have just been spinning in circles.  You know when you have so much to do, but you just can't seem to focus in on any one thing, so you just do a little bit on a whole bunch of things, and then wonder what you did with the day ;)   Yup, I know, we have all been there, right!   So today's feature throwback was an easy pick, it totally had to be my Top Spin quilt!!!

Top Spin was actually inspired by a childhood toy.  You remember those old tops that spun in lots of different colors, oh how I loved playing with it.   So when I saw the wonderfully bright colors and happy prints of Zen Chic's Hey Dot, it reminded me of that toy and I set out to design something akin to that.   And Top Spin was the result ;)

Top Spin is a fairly simple design, so it goes together fast.   And as you can see, it has a lot, and I mean a lot, of Half Square Triangles.  The design includes 3 sizes of Half Square triangles and I love the movement it gives the quilt ;)   I love using the Bloc Loc Rulers to square up my Half Square Triangles.  It makes them go so fast and they are super accurate.    And when I pair it with my Matilda rotating mat, it goes even quicker ;)   Great tools if you make a lot of Half Square Triangles ;)

And I love, love, love the low volume background in this quilt!!!   It just makes all of those happy colors pop all the more ;)    And I used the low volumes from the Hey Dot line, but of course, it would look equally awesome in a whole variety of scrappy low volumes!!   You use 32 Fat Quarters for the blocks, and 6 1/2 yards of Background, so you can bust a whole lot of low volume scraps!!!

And Top Spin is a big quilt!!   It finishes at 96" x 96" so it works great for a queen size bed.   And again, it really does go together quickly for a queen sized quilt ;)    I gave this quilt to my Sister in Law and it is still on her bed today ;)  It makes me smile to see how much she loves it!!  It really is a splash of sunshine each morning!!

I hope you have enjoyed today's Tutorial Throwback Thursday!!!    To make your own Top Spin quilt  just click on any of the quilt name links for the free step by step tutorial.    And when you are done, I would love to see your quilt!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com, post it to social media with #happyquiltingwithmc  or or add it to my flickr group here ;)  I can't wait to see your Top Spin quilts!!!
