A sneak peek of some Free Motion Quilting ;)

Tuesday and Wednesday's "sewing time" was spent at the Long Arm working on one of those "secret projects" which means,  I can't really show much.  But I was able to crop out this section of background that won't give away anything I can't show yet ;)  Luckily, this is a quilt for Fall Quilt Market, so I don't have to keep it secret much longer!!   Which is so good, because I can't wait to share it!!!

I always love quilting swirls and paisleys, they are just so relaxing and oh so much fun.  My pebble border can use some more practice, it is much easier to quilt them randomly rather than trying to make them an even and consistent border.  Practice, Practice Practice :)

I also finished my book on CD while finishing this project.  Now I need another good book . . .any suggestions???  I tend to like Young Adult Fiction Series.

And that's about it for today ;)  I need to get some serious chain stitching done as a certain little baby boy's quilt from here got put on the back burner to finish up this secret project and it is time to get it done ;)  I have the blocks all trimmed and ready, I just need to sew them into the 2 quilt tops now ;)  Then the hard part will be picking which of the two to use and which to tuck away.  I love them both!!!

Have a Happy Quilting Day!!!

  1. Your Paisleys and Swirls look great along with the Pebble border that adds just the perfect touch of charm! I am looking forward to seeing your completed project. Your other blocks are such a special fabric selection that really rocks. Thanks for sharing and have a wonderful creative day!

  2. Your quilting is gorgeous, I love the gray and green baby quilt, maybe because that's what I'm about to start cutting out. I love the Blossom Street series of books by Debbie Macomber. I like that they are Christian based but not preachy at all. They deal with young marriage, babies, teens that need to be reeled in etc. But throughout each book is the running theme of knitting. At the beginning of each book is the pattern for the what the knitting shop in the book is working on. I really wish she would write a new blossom street book. Right now I'm working on her Navy Wives series. It's a good series but if you know nothing about the Navy and how it is to be in the situation of having your husband deployed for such a long time, some of the situations might not make sense. It's very difficult for the wives or husbands when their spouses come home. On one hand you've been head of the house the one who has kept it all running. The spouse can feel as thought they aren't needed. You want everything to be so perfect because you know that they will be leaving again. You don't want any fights over dumb stuff so you both dance around subjects. Service families go through a lot and really earn the same amount of thanks and respect as the service man or woman.

  3. My book recommendation is always Outlander by Diana Gabaldon. Outlander is the first book in a series of 8 (she's working on the 9th now).

I love your FMQ! I still haven't attempted my hand at it. My 7 month isn't letting me sew much less start a new skill. :)

  4. The quilting sneak peek looks great Melissa! The pebble border looks good to me!
Young adult fiction is very often better written than adult fiction. Let's see... favorites in series: Chronicles of Narnia, Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Hermux Tantamoq, and Eragon. Oh! Can't forget Little Women and Anne of Green Gables. Actually all of Lucy Maud Montgomery's work. I can suggest some single story favorites: Bloomability, A Wrinkle in Time, Holes, The Giver, Are You There God? It's me Margaret, The Princess Bride, Belle Prater's Boy, The Tiger Rising, Water for Elephants... to name a few, LOL.

    1. Lara B., I have no quibble with your YA fiction selections, but I do want to let you know that you have mislabeled two series as single story favorites. A Wrinkle in Time is the first of a quintet. The Giver is the first of a quartet. An internet search will quickly bring up the all the books (I found them at Wikipedia). They are also great books to read to your children—as is another Judy Blume book: Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.

  5. Your swirls are lovely, and I'm sure the pebbles are so hard to get totally uniform unless you are a full time quilter!! But if I had quilting that looked that good I'd be very happy!! :-) And if you can get the 3 book series "inkheart" I think you'd love it. Not at all what the movie showed: that was a great disappointment!! The book is very well written and has a complex and great story line that won't leave you bored for a minute!! I've read the set 3 times in the last 4 years! And not an immoral note it it at all!! So wonderful to find! Let me know if you try it and what you think of it. Hugs H

  6. If you like YA fiction, then your exactly like me !! You must must read Throne of Glass (or actually start with the assassins blade) which ever. I started with Throne of glass, then read 2, then 3 then assassins blade (which is publication order) then the 4th. Its sooooo goood!!! You'll love it! Also read the Cinder chronicals. Starting with Cinder.
    They are the best too!
Your quilting is amazing! I would love to be able to fmq like that on my bernina but im too scared Ill stuff it up so I always use my Stitch regulator, but only even just basic stipling. I need to just give it a go. Maybe you could do some posts on how to start and which designs to master first? Only if you want to that is!

  7. Reading books and making quilts, my two favorite things to do! You've given me so much inspiration over the years, I'm glad to have the opportunity to give something back! Here are a few of my favorite series', some are Children, some are YA, but I've enjoyed them all: Knight and Rogue by Hilari Bell, Ranger's Apprentice and Outcasts by Flanagan, The Thief series by Megan Whelan Turner (not as well known, but good!), Artemis Fowl by Eoin Colfer, The Alchemist by Michael Scott and Fablehaven by Brandon Mull. Different style and topic, but still good, The Breadwinner sereies by Deborah Ellis. And that's just a start!
Thanks to everyone else for the suggestions, I'll be adding these to my "want to read" list!
