The pattern is from Me and my Sister Designs new book 12-Pack Quilts
This was such a fun quilt to make. It went together fast and I really enjoyed working with the solids. Every time I make a solid quilt I remember how much fun they are ;) And I just love the fun secondary designs in the pattern!!
When it came time to quilt, I had some fun with a whole lot of custom quilting For the chain I quilted some echoed arches. I love the way it made the center shapes look like jewels, especially with all of the beautiful jewel toned fabrics ;) In the background I quilted some tiny all over echoed swirls, paisleys, and pebbles in the background to make the chain pop. This is a favorite filler of mine and can be found in 180 Doodle Quilting Designs
And I have to say, I am pretty excited about the borders!!!! The inner boader I did some fun ribbon candy, and the outer border, I did a giant Feather!!!! Eeekkk!!!! I am still a little nervous about my feather ability, but I reminded myself the only way to get better is to practice . . . .and so I did . . . and I love it!!! And I really felt like I learned some tidbits along the way that will make me all the more confident to tackle feathers the next times. So excited!!!! And yes, I totally changed the thread out from white to navy which helped to hide a few of the oopsies, gotta love blending ;)
And it adds such a beautiful yummy texture to the quilt!!! I will admit, this one was kind of hard to put in the mail ;) I am just so happy with how it turned out :)
But I am sure it is looking awesome at Road to California and that makes it all great!!! I am just so happy I got to make up this awesome quilt for Moda and already have it on my list to make again!!! And that is my This Way and That Way Quilt!!!
I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!
This Quilt is so awesome and I like the way you quilted it... there is still a lot to learn for me ;o)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
Martina
Such a pretty quilt. Love the colour combinations and that pale blue is crisp! Love it.
ReplyDeleteMelissa, this is a beautiful quilt in some of my favorite fabrics.
ReplyDeleteIt is beautiful. [Question: with such dense quilting, does it make the quilt more appropriate for a wall quilt than a throw/cuddle quilt?]
ReplyDeleteYour feathers are fantastic! Way to push yourself!
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous pattern! LOVE the colors and quilting.
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty! Your quilting is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great quilt! And that 'practice makes perfect' thing tends to be right, so good for you for pushing on in an area you're still learning.
ReplyDeletewhat a fun quilt: and your feather quilting is just beautiful!! Hugs, H
ReplyDeleteI love your quilt -- so colorful -- and your quilting looks great, especially in the borders!
ReplyDeleteReally nice quilting. I always think I will push myself but then stick with what is comfortable. This inspires me!
ReplyDeleteLove it, today I am happy as I had to travel to Mt Wellington over a super busy motorway and kept my cool singing Bridge over Troubled water loud in my car and arrived happy at the big quilt shop. And found more than I thought as the quilt squares are 25 years old, my first quilt and took too big a bite. But now I know how and will finish it for Old Age Concern . Love that pictures quilt and might be my next project xxx
ReplyDeleteVery, VERY nice quilting there, Ms. Melissa! If I had a virtual sticker, I would give you one!!
ReplyDeleteHow about a {HUG} instead??
Lovely, lovely quilt. And the quilting is really awesome! Love that background fill and those feathers!
ReplyDeleteit looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI especially love the navy outer border and how it just sums up this beautiful colorful quilt. A burst of color as the night sky gives way to morning.
ReplyDeleteLove your work, but I would have called it kisses, that's how I see the colors, looks like lips. Anyway, title u gave it is cute. Great job.
ReplyDeleteVery pretty! I have just bought that book too, am keen to give this a go after seeing your example.
