Pumpkin Roll for Homecoming!!

It's time for another SUU Quilt Share in my favorite Red, White, and Black color combo!!! So we are headed back to Feb 2025 when I got to take a fun class at the Quilty Friends Retreat called Pumpkin Roll.   This pattern was designed by Kiley Ferons (awesome designer for Moda Fabrics!!)  for a magazine that was long out of print, but lucky for us, her mom was teaching the class and had permission to share the pattern with us.  And I am sorry, but I don't know where to find the pattern now.  But Ya, so glad I got to take the class because this Pumpkin Roll quilt just turned out so great!!

For this Pumpkin Roll Quilt I used White/Black scrap prints from my stash.  It is always fun to do a little scrap busing, and I love that it adds so much to all of those inset circles.   And yes, those are pieced, inset circles, and I found after a few tries that 8 pins worked best!!   They were a little tricky to get the hang of, but by the end of the quilt, I was whipping through them.   And they just look so awesome!!!  Then some stitch and flip corners to the block to make the fun secondary diamonds.  Such a great design :)

And as always, an SUU quilt needs an SUU layered applique added to the corner of the quilt. The applique is the SUU Mascot, they are the Thunderbirds :)   And when it comes to a custom applique the sky is truly the limit.  It is such a fun way to personalize quilts!!   You can find the step by step tutorial here for layered applique :)   I have lost count of how many times I have made this particular applique, but I will say, I know make them three at a time so I can really streamline the process :)

When it came time to quilt this Pumpkin Roll Quilt I decided on all over Swirls ;)  I just figured I wanted something to add texture that would quilt up fast, and this is always the ticket for that and adds so much great texture!!    And of course, a red thread was perfect for this quilt.   And you can really see the scrappy goodness in this picture.  So fun!!!

And that is my SUU Pumpkin Roll Quilt and it was raffled off last weekend at Homecoming!  It finished at 60" x 70" so it is a great size to take to the Homecoming Game on Saturday evening with an  SUU Alum ;)  I just lvoed making this quilt and now want to design something new with inset circles so I can give them another whirl.  Always so fun to try a new technique :)

Thanks so much for popping in for another quilt finish!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!

Jelly Roll Gems for National Sew a Jelly Roll Day!!

I am a little late posting this here, but I was out of town all last week teaching at Garden of Quilts ;)  But in honor of  National Sew A Jelly Roll Day, that was Saturday,  here is my finished Jelly Roll Gems Quilt !!  Oh, so much fun ;)

You all know how I just love Shortcut Quilts!! And Jelly Roll Gems was no excpetion.   With the Free Pattern  and a Jelly Roll of your choosing you can have this whipped up in no time.  Kimberly has even made a You Tube Tutorial to walk you through it ;)    And of course, this original Jelly Roll Gems Quilt Kit is availalbe at Fat Quarter shop if you want to make it just like Kimberly's ;)

My version is super happy and bright!!   I used a Tula Pink Floral Reef Jelly Roll and then got a little extra of the Deep Dive Wave print so that I could use it on all of the Flying Geese units as well as my binding.  I love how it just grounds all of that happy color.   I also decided to go for a more scrappy look with my rows being all mixed up rather than the same prints across the row.   I think it just fits the fabric more ;)   And of course, I had to use a Happy and Bright Tula Background.   It is the perfect finish for this happy quilt.

And I decided to quilt it with an all over loose feather design.  I think it adds to that whole "reef" theme as it can easily look like seaweed.   And of course, this is a super fast design to quilt and that was a big bonus as I was trying to get this done before leaving out of town ;)   I just love all the extra movment it gives to the quilt ;)

And that is the new Jelly Roll Gems Quilt, and I just love it so much!  It finishes at 60" x 60" so it is going to make a wonderful happy lap quilt.   I just might have to keep this one fore myself as I just keep smiling everytime I see it hanging on the banister.

And if you love it as much as I do, you can still go get the free Jelly Roll Gem pattern and make your own.   Oh so much Jelly Roll fun ;)

Alhambra in Homegrown Preserves!!

Today I get tot share a new quilt finish of one of my new Happy Quilting Patterns that were released last month.  And here it is, the new Alhambra Quilt featuring the adorable prints of  Homegrown Preserves for Poppie Cotton.   I am so excited to be sharing versions of my new quilts with dark backgrounds, and this is one of the first :)   I just love how it always makes the prints pop!!

Alhambra is a Fat Quarter Friendly pattern, and beause each block in mostly made of one print, it really gets to show off that fabric.   Just so cute ;)    It also uses an accent fabric and a border fabric so you can pick your favorte print in the line to really shine in the border.  And again, I just couldn't wait to use a dark background fabric and the Blue Ribbon Country Confetti is a favoirte of mine ;)  .  Barbara did the amazing peicing on this one fore me, and I just love how she added a few extra borders as well to increas the size of the quilt.  Always a great go to option if you want to size up your quilts ;)

Alhambra is an intermeidate quilt pattern.  This is because it is curved piecing!!   But no worries if you haven't tried it before, you can use the fantastic MDP Templates to make cutting a breeze, and then this handy 3 pin curves tutorial for whipping up those curves in no time.  By the time you are done your quilt, you will be an expert!!   And I also love the no waste lattice units in this quilt design that create a fun sedondary design in the background.  Just such a great quilt to make!!

The Alhambra pattern, like most all of my Happy Quilting patterns, has multiple size options.  This is the picnic Size that finishes at 76" x 76, but of course, this one is a little large because of the added borders :)  But it is super nice to have all of the size options, escpeially if you want to try tacking curves on a smaller scale, you can begin with a aby or lap size version ;)  They whip together super fast!!

And when it came time for quilting, Barbara did some adoarable all over loopy flowers.  Aren't they just so cute!!   Just the perfect finish for this super fun quilt.   And the close up really lets you see the secondary designs in the quilt, aren't thye just so great!!   And yes, all of the seams in those little diamonds nest, making it much easier to keep those tiny points clean and crisp ;)

And that is the new Alhambra Quilt, and I just love it so much!  I will be teaching this quilt at Garden of Quilts this week and I can't wait!!!     I hope you love this quilt just as much as I do!!  And if so, pop over to my etsy shop for your Alhambra pattern and MDP templates and then get Happy Quilting!!   And please, I would love to see your quilts when you are all finished!!!  You can email me a picture at happyquiltingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to social media and tag me at @happyquiltingmc.   I can't wait to see your Alhambra quitls!!

Thank you so much for popping in today and sharing this new Alhambra quilt with me.

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!

Wellspring Quilt!!

Along with the Diamond Trails quilt, I shared yesterday, I also got to piece this new  Wellspring quilt for Stephanie, from Fancy That Design House!!   And you just know I so love all of the patchwork goodness in this quilt.   What a fun set of designs, one totally modern and one totally classic.  I just love that!!!    This Wellspring quilt is made with Stephanie's new Wellspring collection  and wouldn't you know, the name of the pattern matches the name of the fabric.  Fun how that works!!

I always love getting to play with Fancy That Design House fabrics!   Stephanie just designs prints and uses color combinations that make my heart happy.  And I love that Stephanie added the small accent triangles in with the patchwork.   It just adds that extra element to a classic design.   So great!

The Wellspring  prints really get to shine in this design, with each block popping in its pretty prints!!!     The quilt is Jelly Roll Friendly and also uses this beautiful Small Panel ;)   I love all of Stephanie’s Hymn towels, and am so glad that she is bringing the prints into her fabrics.   Just precious!!  The quilt finishes at 56" x 75" so it is a fantastic large lap size perfect to cuddle up with a good book!!

And when it came time to quilt it, I decided to continue on with the wonderful grid feel.   So of course, it was wavy arches for the win!!   Wavy basically so I don't have to use a ruler.   And I love the added movement it gives the quilt.    And oh so much yummy texture!! And once again, favorite 402 Pearl was perfect for this quilt ;)

And that is my Wellspring quilt ;)  I really enjoyed getting to piece this patchwork beauty!!  It was super fun, super fast, and a nice change up after all the diamonds ;)  I really do love the versatility in these patterns and how well this gorgeous fabric fits a whole range of design!

Thanks so much for popping in and sharing this finish with me today :)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!
