A New Long (Long, Long) Term Project

When Moda announced they were releasing a new Dessert Sampler quilt I knew right away that I had to make this quilt!!!  It reminded me of the Modern Building Blocks sampler that they did a few years back that I had so much fun making ;)  And of course, there are Kits using the new Color Cuts (so dreamy!!!) that this quilt was design for, but I was thinking this would be a great way to bust through some of my scraps :)

That was until I stopped and checked the Flash Sale of the day at Fat Quarter Shop before checking out with just my pattern ;)    Which just happened to be an Ella and Ollie Layer Cake ;)   And that totally sparked a new idea that was just to great not to do!!!

How gorgeous would it be to make a Figgy Dessert Sampler!!!!   I had 3 other Figgy Layer cakes stashed and the fabric requirements work out to be basically 4 Layer Cakes, so add the new one I threw in my cart, a Cupcake 1 and 2 Mix that the pattern calls for, and I am so good to go!!!   I am so excited!!!    And now I am just burning Stash instead of Scraps, and that's great too, right ;)

And I know there are some Sew Alongs out there for this Dessert Sampler, but my plan is to take this one nice and slow!!!   It's not often I can work on a quilt one block at a time, enjoying the process of seeing each individual block come together, and I want to take advantage of that for this quilt ;)   So no deadlines, no cutting out every block before I even start, I am just going to take this as it comes and enjoy every minute of it.    And with that said, I am sure it will come to a point where I just can't wait to see it all come together, and drop everything to sew it all up, but hey, here's to trying to start out thinking of it as a long (long, long) term project ;)

So how about you???  Do you have a Long Term project that you are working on??

1 Month to get ready for 7 Months Away :)

It's June now, which means Christmas is essentially 7 months away ;)  But, Christmas in July, well, that's only 1 month away!!!   It's no secret that I love Christmas in July, having shared many a  Christmas project  (  Simply Modern Monochromatic Stockings,  O Christmas Trees,   Christmas Traditions Advent Calendar,    Ribbons,    Deck the Halls,    Forever Green  )  in the month of July.   And this year is going to be no exception, as I have 2 new Christmas in July tutorials planned.

The first Christmas in July Tutorial will be a fun Classic Christmas quilt and is using the very soon to be released Christmas Figs by Fig Tree Quilts for Moda.   I love the wonderful Classic look of this line and it pairs just perfect with the fun design I have come up with.  I can't wait to share more and I won't have to wait long as this is slated to be posted at the Moda Bake Shop on July 2nd :)   Which means, I best get cutting and sewing on this one!!!  1 month and counting ;)

The 2nd Christmas in July Tutorial will be a fun and fast quilt.  It will feature Christmas Delivery by Carta Bella for Riley Blake Designs.   Aren't those prints just so fun!!!   I love the cars, presents, type, and especially the buffalo check!!!  How great is that :)   And this quilt design is all about bigger piecing (hence the fast part) to really let these prints shine.  I can't wait to see it all come together.

And that's what I will be working on this week.   Let the Christmas Pandora station sing out loud, it's time to get ready for Christmas in July :)

So do you Christmas in July????

Just Dandy Quilt for Market!!!

I shared a little sneak peek of this quilt back here, and today I am super excited to get to share the finished quilt!!!  This was a quilt that I made for Moda to have at Spring Market.   It features Robin Pickens new Dandi Annie fabric line that was shown at Market and will release in November (I know, long wait ;)   And it also inspired the name of this quilt, Just Dandy!!!   Isn't it just so cute :)  I just love it!!!

This quilt also features one of Moda's newest Cake Mixes, #12 to be exact!!!   And you know I love Cake Mixes!!!  I shared in the sneak peek post  a bit about Cake Mixes (in case you haven't tried one before) as well as all of the quilts I have made with Cake Mixes and I can't stop making them.  They are just so fun and  they really allow you to make up a quilt super quick, which was awesome in this case, as this quilt needed to be made fast.   I had it pieced, quilted, (and thanks to Barbara's help) bound and back in the mail in 3 days!!!

I had so much fun making up the blocks and then playing with them to get just the right layout.  I really love these prints and the small color palette as it really creates for some awesome coloration in the design and layout. And some simple 1" finished sashing and a 3 1/2" finished border really sets of each block and lets it pop :)  Just so pretty!!!

When it came time to quilt it, I decided on some open centered swirls ;)  I love quilting these because their fast (which was super essential) and so fun :)  You just swirl away and they make for wonderful texture and motion.  Also makes those little propeller blocks look like they are spinning away!!

And I had to share the back!!  Cake Mixes and Layer Cakes all have 42 pieces, meaning you can make 42 blocks.   And of course, I just kept making blocks till all my pieces were gone :)  Since this quilt was square finishing at  68" x 68", I only used 36 blocks, which meant, super cute pieced backing!!!!   Isn't that just adorable :)    And of course, if you prefer a rectangular quilt, you can always put this row in the front, don't you just love options ;)  But I have to say, I love square quilts and one with a pieced back as well, double bonus in cuteness!!!

And that is Just Dandy!!!   It is currently headed out to some trunk shows along with the other new Cake Mix quilts, and I am just so grateful I got the opportunity to piece this one up!!!  Thanks to my good friends at Moda for giving me the chance to play with these beautiful new fabrics and fun new Cake Mixes!!!   Market sewing is always so much fun, especially when I only have to keep it a secret for a month :)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this Just Dandy Quilt finish with me!!!

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Linking this finish up to Amanda's, Sarah's, and Myra's :)

May Sew Sampler!!!

Oh my goodness, I can not believe another month has come and gone.   It really is crazy how fast time flies, especially once school has ended.  This last week just flew by.   But ya all know, the best think about another month come and gone is another Sew Sampler box !!!!  I found my little aqua box of goodness waiting for me in the mail and I was so excited to open this and find the theme of the month is Bee Creative.   And this month's box has me wanting to do just that!!!

I am a big fan of Corey Yoder and have made a quilt with every line she has designed so far, up to Pepper and Flax, so you can imagine how excited I was to find a Pepper and Flax Jolly Bar!!!   And matching Aurifil to go with it, double bonus!!!!  And the  Beehive Quilt pattern that came with is just to cute ;)   It has some shortcuts in the pattern to that would make it awfully quick to make up too.  Now I just have to decide if I want to use this Jolly Bar to make this cute pattern, or to make up Corey's new Barn Star pattern.   She showed it today on Instagram mocked up in Pepper and Flax and I just loved it!!!    Decisions, Decisions ;)

And I totally squealed over the notions this month!!!  They are so great!!!!    I am such a huge fan of Alphabitties and I just love these new ones in Grey ;)   I have all 3 sets now and am excited that I can now be working on 3 quilts and still have all the little markers I need :)    And I am loving all of the Creative Grids rulers I am accumulating in my boxes!!!  I am a huge fan of their markings and especially the little grips on the back of the rulers, so great!!!    And this 4 1/2" x 8 1/2" sized ruler is one that I did not have and I have already used it 3 times.  It is a great size for marking and trimming and I really like that there is still room for my hand on it.  (no more oopsie cutting fingers for me, thank you very much ;)

And of course, with a new box, there is a new Block!!!  This new year is all about Barn Blocks in Monochromatic and I here is Barn Block #2 :)   And I have to say, I am pretty proud of my little baby points on this block!!!  Those HST's finish at 1", so having the pinwheel in the center come together so well, ya I was totally smiling ;)  I am just loving these!!

And that's my May Sew Sampler Box, and now to wait a whole month before June's Sew Sampler Box  will arrive.   But with Summer Band, Swim Lessons, Library Time, and summer in general, I am sure it will be here before I know it ;)

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
