Argyle Socks Quilt

I am so excited to get to share with you another one of those "secret finises".   I actually finished this quilt back in September of 2014, so it is so fun to finally get to share it.   So . . .here is Argyle Socks!!

Argyle Socks is featured in the Summer 2015 edition of Fons and Porter's Easy Quilts.   And it really does go together super easy using strip piecing and some quick bordered blocks.

And I bet you can guess what inspired the design.  Yup, my husband's Argyle Socks.  I love the wonderful motion this design creates and the mixture of the white and brown background playing off the bright colors from Denyse Schmidt's Hadley line, really makes it pop!!!

When it came time for quilting, I decided to do some swirls in the colored squares.  I think I can safely say, swirls are my go-to filler design ;)

Then in the background squares, I did some back and forth lines in opposite directions to really make it pop and then some ribbon candy in the borders.   I really had so much fun quilting this one up.

Argyle Socks finises at 56 1/2" x 68" making it the perfect size to cuddle up in with a good book.  And now that it is back, I think I need to find a new book ;)

And that is Argyle Socks :)   If you make your own using the magazine pattern, I would love to see it!!  You can email me a picture at happyquitlingmelissa@gmail.com or add it to my flickr group here ;)

Snaptshots QAL - Triple Scoop Sundae

So I realized last night, that I had some catch-up to do.  I completely missed posting my June Snapshots QAL block as I was in the middle of my Irish Chain Quilts Blog Hop over the usual posting date.  And then somehow, I just never remembered to get it posted.  Well' we can't have that!!  So, without any further ado, June's block is Triple Scoop Sundae, and oh my, it just makes me want to make my own Triple Scoop Sundae!!!

Alright, now I am going to keep it real here.    At least 3 times a week (and sometimes more if it has been a stressful week) after the kids go to bed, I scoop myself up a bowl of ice-cream and enjoy a movie while I press my piecing for the day.   Seriously, it is my go to, unwind from the day, it makes all things good, treat!!  And yes,  we go through a lot of ice-cream.

So, you want to sew some ice-cream??  Have you joined in the Snapshot Block fun yet??  You can download the pattern right here and then don't forget to donate the $5.00 for the pattern to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital ;)  This is such an amazing cause and they have already raised over $26,000.00!!!  Isn't that just incredible!!  Quilters are the best!!!

This block went together super fast and was so much fun to make.   Kimberly made putting this block together even easier with this fabulous You Tube video that walks you through it step by step!!!   These videos are just so great ;)

Be sure to  share all of your Snapshots progress on social media with #fqssnapshots and check out these fabulous bloggers for some Sew On & Sew On inspiration :)

Patchwork Skirt for Trek

I spent most of last week in Wyoming on a Youth Trek for our Church.  350 Youth and their leaders traveled up to the Mormon Handcart Historic Site to have a small taste of the handcart pioneer experience.   And of course, we needed to look the part.   So a little Patchwork Skirt sewing was in need.   (and sadly, I forgot to take any pictures of this skirt while I was in Wyoming, so these are just in the backyard, le sigh)

Now, we all know I am not the best 3-D seamstress, so I was grateful when Barbara offered to make my skirts.  (especially as I was trying to crank out a last minute deadline.)  I had these fabulous Cotton and Steel Basics charm packs all picked out and I think they just made the cutest skirt!!!   Aren't they just so fun!!!!  I just loved how bright and happy they are :)

I needed a second skirt, so Barbara found this super adorable cheater print that looked uber authentic.   So cute, I just loved it!!!!  We didn't remember to take a whole lot of pictures while on the trek, (to busy walking)  but I loved this one with my sweetheart and my oldest.   Quite the crew :)

And just in case you were wondering . . .  this is what half out our group looked like all decked out in pioneer fashion.  What an awesome experience, I am so grateful I got the chance to go to this historic site and experience it with my sweetheart and my oldest son.  I think we will have to go back as a family some time.  Think of how cute those little girl patchwork skirts will be!!!!!

I hope you are having a very Happy Quilting Day!!!
