Adventure is Calling for a Square Dance!!

So remember when I shared the Mountain Lullaby quilt and said that I was trying to make more "mountain-ish" quilts for the Barbara and Bob's cabin.   Well I am super excited to add another one to the mix!!!   When I saw the new Adventure is Calling Line from Riley Blake Designs, I knew it was just perfect for another cabin quilt!!!   And combined with my Square Dance Pattern, it is just perfect :)

I mean, how can it not be perfect with these prints from Adventure is Calling!!!   Tents, Trees, Forest Animals, Stars, and Pennant Flags . . . and all in beautiful woodsy colors!!!  It is just so fun, I especially love the pops of orange :)

And I have been wanting to make a large version of my Square Dance Pattern for quite some time, and I just knew this fabric would be so great in it!!!   I loved the idea of just using a simple yet fun geometric designs for a cabin quilt, almost gives you the idea of plaid but a cool plaid  ;)  And I even made sure all my directions prints lined up, so no upside foxes or tents.   I don't normally worry about directional fabric, but this quilt design is an easy one to layout and make sure it is correct, especially because it is Jelly Roll friendly, so you don't have to worry about what direction you are cutting the pieces out either ;)

For the Pop fabric I used Shades Chocolate  and the background fabric is Shades Burlap.   I love the "texture" in the shades line.   It is a lot like grunge so no surprise that I tend to gravitate towards it.   And I just love how all of the print colors just pop on the light and ark brown, it really adds to the 3D illusion of this quilt.

I tried something new when it came time to quilt it.   I originally was planning to just do a large meandering stitch.  I haven't done simple meandering in some time and thought it would be perfect for this geometric design.    But after making the first pass, I thought it kind of looked like a trail through the woods.   So I decided to go back and echo the meandering to really make a "trail".   I just love how it turned out and echoing was so much fun.   It was just like following a trail just following the twists and bends in the way.  So fun!!!

I am just so happy with how this quilt turned out!!  And it is already at the cabin as we are enjoying this Memorial Day in the woods ;)    Three down, (I put my King Size Braided Irish Chain in Reunion Fabric on my bed :) down and 3 more "cabin" fabric quilts to go.    I can't wait to see what the next one is going to turn out like ;)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

School's Out!!

Today is the first official day of "summer" for my kiddo's, and they are so excited!!!  Me, I have mixed feelings about it, tee hee hee.   I love summer because we can spend so much time together and make lots of amazing memories, but the days just seem to slip by in the summer and ya, there is always less time to sew.   And speaking of less time . . . I have had a lot of bitter sweet moments lately as our oldest, Spencer Jacob Corry, Graduated!!!

And he Graduated 4 times!!!!   Ya, this kid has been busy :)    He graduated from Cedar High School as well as Success Academy.  Success Academy is a charter school that Spencer attended half of the day.  So Cedar High School in the morning (which is the same school his dad and grandpa went to, so great) , and Success in the afternoon.   Success is an Early College program, so he also graduated from Southern Utah  University, with an associates degree at the end of High School.   SUU is my Alma Mater, and because I served on the Alumni Board, I get to help with graduation and got to welcome him to the SUU Alumni right after he crossed the stage to get his diploma.  Yup, that was a tender moment for me!!!  And we are so super proud that while he was doing all of this rigorous education, he still made time for his beliefs, graduating from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Seminary Program.  4 Years and 4 Graduations, just Wow!!!!

And the big joke was, after 4 graduations, he now has 4 empty diploma cases.   Yup, there is going to be some happy mail for this kid as each of his diplomas arrive :)

What an amazing 4 years High School has been for Spencer and we are just so very proud of him!!!  He is now preparing to serve a 2 year Mission in Frankfurt Germany for the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.  He leaves in July, so I am just soaking up all of the moments before he is gone for 2 years!!!   When he returns from his Mission, he plans to attend Southern Utah  University to get a bachelors in Biology and then go on to Medical School as he wants to be a Genetic Doctor.

Yup, all the emotions, and especially oh so very proud of this kid!!

We love you Spencer and are so excited for your next big steps in life ;)

Thanks for sticking with me through a more personal post today.  No quilts, but I just had to share this huge milestone for our son and our family ;)    For those of you who have gone through this, does the emotional rollercoaster get any easier with the next one??

Wishes in Sophie!!

So last week I was having a wonderful chat with my good friend Kim, who also owns our local quilt shop, Stitching It Up.   In the course of the conversation, we got to talking about new fabric and how she just had a whole bunch of lines come in and was swamped with how many samples she needed to make.  And of course, I wanted to help her out so I offered to make up a sample for her, I mean, who doesn't want to play with new fabric ;)   And a week later . . . tada . . . a new Queen Size version of my Wishes Pattern in Sophie  ;)

Can I just say how thrilled I was when I found out Kim needed a quilt in the new Sophie Fabric Line by Brenda Riddle for Moda Fabrics!!!   I just love the soft delicate prints and the colors had me transported back to my childhood of playing with my Strawberry Shortcake dolls.   Aren't they just so great!!!  I just love how it turned out.

And I am just thrilled with how well my Wishes Pattern showcases Sophie.   They really were a great match.      I especially love the cornerstone stars in the bright red, they just pop!!!  And I also love how they create a secondary chain design around the block, just so fun :)  And the other great thing about Wishes is there are very few seams that need to be lined up, which is great when you are making a queen size quilt in a week.      This queen size version needs 16 Fat Quarters, a pop fabric, and some background to make it and it really goes together fast ;)

And when it came time to quilt it, I wanted to add to that summer flower garden feel so I decided on an al over loose feathers.  I just love how it makes it look like leafy vines are crossing over the entire quilt.   I just love all the motion it adds and how it just flows.   Oh,  And it also has the added benefit of being a quick one to quilt as well, speed was for sure important on this one ;)   So fun!!!

I am just so happy with how this quilt turned out!!  And it is already hanging in Kim's Shop, so fun!!!  And I am looking forward to when this Wishes Quilt makes it's way home.    Wouldn't this just make the cutest summer wedding gift ;)

Thanks for popping in today and sharing this new finish with me.

I hope you all have a very Happy Quilting Day!!!!

My Perfect Purple Pressing Pair and and Oliso Giveaway!!!

Is there anything better than opening a box of Pressing Goodness!!!   Why yes there is, opening 2 boxes of Pressing Goodness!!!  This is now my Perfect Purple Pressing Pair and I am so excited to break them in ;)  And ya know, since I press about 2 hours every evening, it shouldn't take long.    Who knows, maybe I will even "Iron" my sweetheart's dress shirts that have been piled on the ironing board for a few weeks now ;)

If you have been around here for a little while, you know I love my Oliso Iron!!!  I got my first Oliso back in 2012 and it was love at first Press :)  After my Carpal Tunnel Surgery. I replaced my Yellow Oliso TG1600 with a  Pink Oliso TG1600 Pro .  The Pro had all the same features as the original, but they made it hotter, lighter, stronger, and built to last longer.  You can read about the updated features on the new Oliso TG1600 Pro Plus at the Oliso Website.  I can sum it up by saying it works crazy good!!!

In fact, I loved it so much, when I saw a purple version of the TG1100 was released, I bought one and kept it in the box so that I would have a "back-up" iron.   I figured it would be ready and waiting when the Pink Oliso Pro  started to give out.    Well, the Pink one is still going strong, but I had a little motivation to pull out Purple Pro Plus today.

You see, a new little perfect pairing arrived in the mail yesterday!!!    At my last retreat, I had a student using a brand new Oliso Mini Project Iron.   I gave it a try, and again, it was love at first Press ;)    I never knew a mini travel iron could get so hot and steam so well.   And I love that they added the "solemate" so you can keep it in the face down position, just like the big irons!!!  (I can't even begin to explain how much not lifting irons anymore has saved my writs :)    So ya, I just had to have one!!!   This will now be my Travel Iron, and I can't wait to take it to my classes.   It's just so great ;)

So now, the Purple TG1100 will be my at home iron and I am sure it will get used daily.  The Pink Oliso Pro is going up the mountain to the cabin, and I am so glad that it gets a new home, and that I will have a great iron even when I am sewing up the mountain!!   Oh, and in case you are wondering, Yes, my husband totally laughed at me when he found out I had a "back-up" iron just waiting to be opened for 2 years, and that I pulled it out not when I needed a Back-Up, but when I decided I wanted matching irons ;)   I mean, who can pass up Purple!!!!  (They also have Yellow, Pink, and Aqua if you prefer those colors, obviously, color is important to me :)

Here's to lots of Perfect Pressing with my Pair of Purple Pressers :)

And as a celebration of my new Purple Pressers . . . Remember how I mentioned Giveaway in the Title

Well my friends at Oliso have a real treat in store for my Happy Quilting Readers!!!  They are giving away an Oliso Mini Project Iron to one Happy Quilting reader, and you can even pick the color!!!

This Giveaway is for US and Canada only (Sorry my International Friends)

GIVEAWAY CLOSED - The winner of the Oliso Mini Project Iron is #77 - Scottylover!!!   Congrats, I have emailed you :)

ENTRY - Simply leave a comment that tells me how long your "Ironing" pile sits around before you tackle it.  (Not pressing quilt pieces here, the ironing of dress shirts and such :)

And that's it ;)  The giveaway will be open until next Monday, May 17th,  when I will announce a winner at the end of the day :)

Good Luck and Have a Happy Quilting (and Pressing) Day!!!
