Utah Quilt Festival 2016

So I mentioned in my Ruby Jubilee Braided Irish Chain post last Friday, that I had had the wonderful opportunity to travel up the I-15 last week to teach at the 2016 Utah Quilt Festival!!!  This was my first time teaching at this amazing retreat and I had such an amazing time!!!  I taught 3 classes that were just full of amazing women.  I know I have said it before, but I just love the opportunity to teach and be with so many wonderfully talented people who share my same passion.

My first class was my Braided Irish Chain pattern.  This class was a full house, and I was super excited because for a few students in the class it was the first time they had used a Jelly Roll.  Gotta love introducing the wonderful world of pre-cuts!!!  Everyone worked so hard and over half of them finished their first block!!!  So fantastic ;)  And don't you just love everyone's fabrics.  One of my favorite parts of teaching is seeing the different fabrics everyone chooses to make their quilts with ;)

That evening, I got to teach my Wonky Irish Chain pattern. This class was a little smaller and turned out to be a family affair as half of the gals in the class were quilting with a family member.  That was just so fun.  One of the students was their with her mom and it was her first quilting class.   It was just so wonderful to see everyone help her along and teach her all of their little quilting tidbits.  It really just warmed my heart and made me realize how Happy we all are when Quilting!!!

And the next morning I was able to teach my Petal Pop pattern.  This was another full class, and they all did amazing!!!  Almost everyone in the class finished their first block and several got more finished as well.  This is one of my favorite classes to teach because the block is built a little backwards then you would assume, so it is so fun to see when it "clicks" with everyone and then they realize just how easy it is to whip up ;)    Love it!!!

I just love, love, love teaching!!!!  It is such a blessing to be able to share this passion for quilting with so many amazing women :)  It really is just an amazing Happy Quilting time!!!   This gives you a little idea of what class was like ;)  Lots of amazing students sewing away, and beautiful blocks surrounding the room as everyone finished up their blocks.  Isn't that so fun to see them lining the walls!!!

Thank you so much to the Utah Quilt Festival for having me this year.  It was so wonderful and I am already looking forward to returning next year for the Ruby Jubilee 40th Anniversary!!!  So exciting ;)

September Sew Sampler Box!!!

When I got back from teaching this last weekend I had a wonderful surprise waiting for me . . . my September Sew Sampler box from Fat Quarter Shop!!!  I have to say, I just love, love, love, these Sew Sampler Boxes!!  It really is like Christmas arriving on my doorstep, but it comes on every 25th of the month!!!!

September's box was filled with so much quilty goodness, as you can see above,  but of course, I went straight for the fabric first ;)   I just love these adorable prints from Sweet Orchard and I have to say, it is going to be hard to unroll this ever so cute Rollie Pollie.  (But I am sure I will manage at some point ;)

And isn't this little Create pouch just adorable!!!  And I saw on Instagram someone using it to hold their Sew Sampler recipie cards, and they are the perfect fit!!!   Brilliant!!!

And then I squealed out loud when I saw this Ruler Pal from Pleasant Home and Riley Blake Designs.  I have had my eyes on these ever since Jodi announced that she was working with Riley Blake to distribute them, and I am so, so, so excited to have my own. It fits perfect right next to my cutting mat and holds all of my most commonly used rulers.   And look, it even matches the Olfa Splash Rotary Cutter that we got in the Sew Sampler box a few months ago!!!  (It's almost like they planned that out in advance, tee hee hee ;)

So ya, lots of tidbits to get super excited about in this months box.   And of course, I wouldn't want to end my box reveal without including my Sew Sampler Recipe Card block.  I am just loving these super fun blocks and I can't wait to see this sampler come together ;)

And while I was putting away all of these new quilting goodies, I also got all unpacked from being gone last week at the quilt retreat ;)  It's always nice to get back to sewing with a clean sewing room.

I hope you are all having a Happy Quilting Week so far!!!

Ruby Jubilee Braided Irish Chain!!!!

I am so super excited to have a very special finish to share today ;)  I mentioned on Monday that I had a special quilt to drop off during the Quilt Fest retreat I was teaching at.  And you might recall when I started planning for this clear back in February :)  So ya, I am pretty excited to share my finished Ruby Jubilee Braided Irish Chain!!!!!   And it just so happens to be just in time for Blogger's Quilt Festival as well ;)

I have always wanted to make a 2 color version of my Braided Irish Chain quilt since I first designed the pattern.  And I have to say, it is everything I hoped it would be!!!!  And in classic red and white, perfect!!!  And I love how the light hit this picture just right to really show off the beautiful Grunge fabric ;)  I know I have said it before, but I sure love Grunge Fabrics!!!

The main reason I have always wanted to do this in a two colors is to see how it would really play up and highlight the design.   And I have to say, I just love that it  really allows the wonderful geometric goodness of this pattern shine.  It also really makes the secondary designs pop as well, especially when you look at it from different angles.  So fun!!!

When it came time to quilt this, I really wanted to add some super yummy texture, so I went back to all of my favorites and did them in a pretty small scale.   I used Echoed Paisley's, Swirls, Pebbles, and a few Curls thrown in here and there to quilt up all the background.   I love quilting all of these favorites, and it was super fun (even if it took 9 hours :) to quilt it all in such a small scale.   And totally worth it for all of that quilting goodness ;)

In the white squares, I added little Orange Peel flowers   And I just love the way they help to make all of the chain pop and draw your eyes throughout the chain.   Ya, I might have done a little happy dance when I pulled this off the Long-Arm.  Isn't it nice when it turns out just the way you wanted it to ;)

And as I mentioned, I had to turn this quilt in, because now it will be part of a traveling show that will go across the state of Utah throughout 2017 celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the Utah Quilt Guild.  I am so excited to get to be a small part of such an amazing guild that covers our whole state!!!

And I also got to teach my Braided Irish Chain Quilt Pattern at Quilt Fest to 20 amazing ladies and it was super fun to have this hanging in class before I turned it in ;)   I also had the Pattern versions of Braided Irish Chain that I shared back here.  Isn't it so fun to see how many different ways you can make the same quilt and how different each becomes, just by changing out the fabric!!!  That is one of my favorite parts of teaching ;)

And that is my new Ruby Jubilee Braided Irish Chain!!!  Thank you all for your wonderful encouragement on this quilt while I was planning and working on it.  I couldn't be happier with how it all come together and am so happy that I finally got to share the finish with you all!!

Thank you so much for popping in today and each day ;)  And if you are popping in for the first time from Blogger's Quilt Festival, welcome!!!   I am so glad you stopped by for a visit and hope you come back often ;)   I always love being able to share my passion for quilting and hope you will love what you see!!

Have a Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Tree Lined Street Quilt

So you might recall from my previous Jolly Bar Book post, that I had also made up a second quilt top that just needed to be quilted and bound.   Well, I am excited to say that after the super amazing conclusion of the Summer Solstice Quilt Along yesterday, that I found myself with some "spare time" in the afternoon and I got my second Jolly Bar Book quilt all quilted up and bound and I just love it!!!  It is called Tree Lined Street and isn't it just so cute!!!

I just love how this fun design really lets each of the prints stand out!!!  And I was totally drawn in by that adorable 2" patchwork border.  I mean, it just doesn't get cuter than a patchwork border ;)   I used a The Treehouse Club Jolly Bar by Sweetwater and it is just the perfect neutral print that will work for a baby boy or girl quilt, depended on what is needed first ;)

Now this one had to wait a while to be quilted, but I have known the whole time how I wanted to quilt it.   I whipped out my ruler and alternated vertical and horizontal lines on the cute bars and then filled it in with some all over loop de loops.  Every time I get going on these little loopies I am reminded of just how much I love to quilt them.

And of course, the alternating lines gave the quilt top some amazing texture.  Doesn't that just look so cool in grids that just make those little bars pop!!!  And I loved the little arches around the border as well, so fun!!!

And now,  I have two fun Jolly Bar Book (Did I mention before how much I love this book!!!) baby quilts all ready for a special little arrival ;)   Eeekk, don't you just love making baby quilts!!!   They are just so fun to whip up and even more fun to give away ;)

Thanks for popping in today to share my Tree Lined Street Quilt Finish

I hope you have a very Happy Quilting Weekend!!!

Summer Solstice Quilt-A-Long - Parade and Grand Prizes!!!

First off,  I would like to say Thank You to all of you who quilted-a-long with me.  This has been such a wonderful and successful Quilt-A-Long and that is because of each of you.  I loved reading how so many of you were quilting along for the first time and really stretching outside your comfort zone to try new things, especially with those curves.  That is what Quilt-A-Longs are all about!!   I loved seeing each of your individual creativity come out in this pattern, truly amazing.   And now, you all have absolutely beautiful finishes to show for all of your hard work.

And speaking of finishes . . . Did you happen to see that there are 42 of them!!!   That is totally awesome!!   You all are the greatest to Quilt-A-Long with!!!  To see these 42 quilt tops just pop on over here and check out the links at the bottom of the post.  They are absolutely amazing!!!     And if you want to see everyone's progress along the way, you can check out the  Happy Quilt-A-Long Flickr Group or visit the #summersolsticequiltalong.  It was so much fun to watch each of your quilt tops come together as we took this journey together :)

One more thing before we get to the parade, if you are just popping over and finding the Summer Solstice Quilt-A-Long for the first time, or just want an easy reference for the future, you can find all of the Tutorial Posts for the Summer Solstice Quilt-A-Long at any time under the Quilt-A-Long tab at the top of my blog.  You can also reference the following links here :)

Alright, Let's get to the Parade!!!! So Fun!!!   First off, I have to apologize that you didn't have a whole lot of time to quilt and bind your projects.  I knew I was going to be out of town for the next two Thursday's and wouldn't have been able to do this post, so you all had about a week less to finish your quilts than we have had  in the past.   So we don't have a whole ton of finishes which is my fault . . .  but we still have some and they are amazing!!!!!!

Several of you worked your little tails off to get these done in time and I am so excited for you!!!    A huge round of applause for these amazing finishes!!!  So here they are :)  You can click on the name (if it is underlined) to go to that persons individual link site and see more about their project :)
